In last few years, cloud computing and other services based on data centers have evolved from an emerging technology to a recognized approach that is gaining broad acceptance and deployment. therefore, there is a significant need to provide efficient and reliable operation of inter-data center networks based on optical technologies. In this article, we focus on cross stratum optimization of an inter-data center elastic optical network with additional survivability requirements. We propose a novel optimization approach that employs machine learning Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) algorithm for simulation of future traffic to improve the performance of the network regarding blocking probability and operational cost. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method and other reference algorithms under various network scenarios, using representative topologies and real data provided by Amazon Web Services. the main conclusion is that the approach based on the MCTS algorithm enables better coordination of resource allocation in both strata, which results in lower blocking of requests and lower cost taking into account the survivability requirements, in comparison to other algorithms.

this article presents a hybrid. software/hardware architecture for commander's decision support in tactical operations. the architecture builds on the symbolic, object-oriented visualization software called Advanced Tactical Architecture for Combat Knowledge System (ATACKS). the extension discussed here is the design of a real-time robot agent layer that interacts wirelessly with ATACKS. this layer enacts decisions made by software agents (wargamers), continuously relays the execution states back to ATACKS, and updates its actions as advocated by replanning algorithms. the software layer is briefly described followed by the specification of the real-time requirements for the robotic architecture. the design and implementation are given with a small example that illustrates the hybrid system's operation.

Geological evaluation and groundwater assessment, especially in arid areas, are considerable targets for constructing recent and sustainable development communities. the current work aims to apply an integrated approach to acquire geologic structures and groundwater potentiality at highly deformed area. As a case study, remote sensing (RS), aeromagnetic, and geoelectrical data are conducted to delineate the subsurface structures and hydrogeological regime at Aswan City. Initially, remote sensing data with GIS software are utilized to delineate the surface structures and watershed configuration. Moreover, the reduced to magnetic pole (RTP) aeromagnetic data is processed and interpreted using appropriate filters. In an attempt to demonstrate the subsurface structures and basement relief maps, the RTP map was analyzed considering the RS data which was stated in previous stage. In the light of RTP aeromagnetic results and well logging data, the direct current resistivity (DCR) sounding is executed particularly along paleochannel and flood plain portion. Due to the inversion process problem of DCR field data, advanced solutions and algorithms are applied to improve the property of the results. Based upon overall results mentioned above, the correlation between subsurface structures and aquifer formation can be monitored. the present approach can be applied for groundwater exploration in this and other similar geological and hydrogeological environments around the world.

In social network analysis, it is crucial to discover a community through the retrospective decomposition of a large social graph into easily interpretable subgraphs. Four major community discovery algorithms, namely the Breadth-First Search, the Louvain, the MaxToMin, and the Propinquity Dynamics, are implemented. their correctness was functionally evaluated in the four most widely used graphs with vastly different characteristics and a dataset retrieved from Twitter regarding cultural and natural heritage data because this platform reflects public perception about historical events through means such as advanced storytelling in users timelines. the primary finding was that the Propinquity Dynamics algorithm outperforms the other algorithms in terms of NMI for most graphs. In contrast, this algorithm withthe Louvain performs almost the same regarding modularity.
