the large flares from 2017 September 4 to 10 were significant microwave events with revealing multi-wavelength images of the flare environment. the event on September 10 was a large long-duration, gamma-ray flare (LDGRF). the event also produced a Ground Level Enhancement (GLE). using the constraints from the microwave imaging data from the Expanded Owens Valley Solar Array (EOVSA) we interpret and model the behavior of the energetic-flare protons of September 10 as measured with the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Fermi mission. We do this in the context of stochastic acceleration in a large coronal bipolar structure to produce the high-energy long-duration gamma-ray emission. Our preliminary analysis suggests that the acceleration of the GeV protons takes place in a large structure about 1.4 R-circle dot in length. the requirements for the magnetic field and turbulence in this structure will be presented.

Obesity is one of the most important risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Nutritional status is generally measured by the body mass index (BMI) and its estimation is especially relevant to analyse long-term trends of overweight and obesity at the population level. Nevertheless, in most context nationally representative data on BMI is scarce and the probability of individuals to progress to obese status is not observed longitudinally. In the literature, several authors have addressed the problem to obtain this estimation using mathematical/computational models under a scenario where the parameters and transition probabilities between nutritional states are possible to compute from regular official data. In contrast, the developing countries exhibit poor data quality and then, the approaches provided from the literature could not be extended to them. In this paper, we deal with the problem of estimating nutritional status transition probabilities in settings with scarce data such as most developing countries, formulating a non-linear programming (NLP) model for a disaggregated characterization of population assuming the transition probabilities depend on sex and age. In particular, we study the case of Chile, one of the countries with the highest prevalence of malnutrition in Latin America, using three available National Health Surveys between the years 2003 and 2017. the obtained results show a total absolute error equal to 5.11% and 10.27% for sex male and female, respectively. Catheter-based cardiac ablation, such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and pulsed electric field ablation (PFA), is the treatment of choice for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the underlying phenomena and differences between RFA and PFA are not well understood. In this paper, we propose mathematical modeling of the cardiac electric signal of a cardiac domain containing an ablated area by RFA or PFA. Both types of ablation consist of the isolation of the pulmonary vein, but we describe them differently by using appropriate transmission conditions. More specifically, we assume that in the case of RFA, both intracellular and extracellular potentials are affected, leading to Kedem-Katchalsky type conditions at the interface. In contrast, in the case of PFA, we assume an isolation of the intracellular potential (due to the cardiomyocytes death induced by electroporation) whereas the extracellular potential is continuous. Numerical simulations in a context of AF show that PFA and RFA lead to isolation of the pulmonary vein. Our modeling also enables to propose a numerical explanation for the higher rate of fibrillation recurrence after RFA compared with PFA. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Organizations learn by comparing practices of employees under different aspects and leverage the lessons learned in improved procedures [9]. this paper reports on a pilot research project that shows how the theory of practice-based organizational learning can be transposed to the classroom. Students’ insights about their learning practice are linked to, and reflected in, better learning performance in the subject matter. Peer-controlled self-evaluation is used to measure subject-matter understanding on a scale inspired by Lonergan’s cognitional theory [12]. the pilot research project presented here was undertaken in the 2018/2019 academic year in a French business school in a management class. A multi-class research project in the same school is planned by the authors for the academic year 2019/2020. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Learning activities use an increasing number of software tools. these mediate the interactions among participants and of these with resources like documents and tools. these tools constitute a valuable source of information about the actual learning processes. However, this use faces multiple problems. Lecturers need to gain expertise on the data each tool provides and how to analyse them, each tool only offers a partial view of the process, students have different profiles and use different tools, and time to make analyses is limited. To address this situation, this work proposes the use of Assistants for Learning Activities (ALAs), i.e. semi-automated tools that use social knowledge to integrate different sources of information and interpret their data. this knowledge is extracted from literature on learning, and specified as social properties. these properties describe patterns that appear in information and their interpretation in terms of the learning-related activities. their specification relies on a specific modelling language oriented to social activities and their context. It is designed to facilitate communication with the target learning communities. Wrappers for software tools get the raw data, transform them into facts for this language, and assert them in an information base. then, a pattern matching algorithm finds instances of the social properties among these facts, giving an interpretation of the original data. A case study on teamwork in a project-based learning context of a university using several software tools illustrates the approach. It shows the feasibility of adapting the analysis through the modification of the considered properties, and how these can explain the observed data.

To have automatic conversations between human and computer is regarded as one of the most hardcore problems in computer science. Conversational systems are of growing importance due to their promising potentials and commercial values as virtual assistants and chatbots. To build such systems with adequate intelligence is challenging, and requires abundant resources including an acquisition of big conversational data and interdisciplinary techniques, such as content analysis, text mining, and retrieval. the arrival of big data era reveals the feasibility to create a conversational system empowered by data-driven approaches. Now we are able to collect an extremely large number of human-human conversations on Web, and organize them to launch human-computer conversational systems. Given a human issued outterance, i.e., a query, a conversational system will search for appropriate responses, conduct relevance ranking using contexts information, and then output the highly relevant result. In this paper, we propose a novel context modeling framework with end-to-end neural networks for human-computer conversational systems. the proposed model is general and unified. In the experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model for human-computer conversations using p@1, MAP, nDCG, and MRR metrics.

In this paper interval-valued fuzzy relations in the context of decision making problems are studied. A new version of transitivity with admissible linear order involved in its notion is introduced. It is examined the connection of this new property and some equivalence relation for interval-valued fuzzy relations. there are also studied admissible linear orders generated by aggregation functions and their connection with the considered equivalence relation. Possible applications of the presented results in decision making are indicated.

Multi-turn conversation understanding is a major challenge for building intelligent dialogue systems. this work focuses on retrieval-based response matching for multi-turn conversation whose related work simply concatenates the conversation utterances, ignoring the interactions among previous utterances for context modeling. In this paper, we formulate previous utterances into context using a proposed deep utterance aggregation model to form a fine-grained context representation. In detail, a self-matching attention is first introduced to route the vital information in each utterance. then the model matches a response with each refined utterance and the final matching score is obtained after attentive turns aggregation. Experimental results show our model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on three multi-turn conversation benchmarks, including a newly introduced e-commerce dialogue corpus. © 2018 COLING 2018 - 27th international conference on Computational Linguistics, Proceedings.
