A research software platform is developed that is based on the Actor Prolog concurrent object-oriented logic language and a state-of-the-art Prolog-to-Java translator for experimenting withthe intelligent visual surveillance. We demonstrate an example of the application of the method to the monitoring of anomalous human behaviour that is based on the logical description of complex human behaviour patterns and special kinds of blob motion statistics. the logic language is used for the high-level (semantic) analysis of graphs of tracks of moving blobs;the graphs are supplied by low-level analysis algorithms implemented in a special built-in class of Actor Prolog. the blob motion statistics is collected by the low-level analysis procedures that are of the need for the discrimination of running people, people riding bicycles, and cars in a video scene. the first-order logic language is used for implementing the fuzzy logical inference based on the blob motion statistics.

Fast and accurate methods for collision detection of deformable bodies are essential in physically based interactive simulations and used in many applications including surgery simulations, computer games and Virtual Reality. As an efficient method for interactive collision detection of densely meshed tetrahedral meshes, spatial hashing has been introduced. It can be used for deformable and rigid bodies but has the disadvantage that deep object penetrations can occur when coarsely meshed objects are simulated. the use of coarsely meshed objects is especially desirable for multi body simulations and for CAD models, as CAD modeling software often produces irregular triangulations. We present an improved algorithm based on spatial hashing, which resolves this problem by considering also edge-edge collisions. this enables the estimation of the penetration depth for the newly detected penetrations.

Almost all PC systems now include 3D graphics accelerators for games, computer Aided Design (CAD) or visualization applications. this paper investigates the suitability of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices as a low cost solution for implementing 3D affine transformations.
