this paper employs system identification to characterize Industrial Hydraulics system (IHS) system using an open-loop method. It utilizes a black box approach for estimating the model and parameters of the system using MATLAB system Identification Toolbox. the paper presents three data sets and validates the estimated model using statistical methods such as percentage best fit, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), histogram analysis, and correlation analysis. the process began by obtaining the input-output data from the experimental work. the validation results obtained from the input-output data reveals an average best fit percentage for the three data sets is approximately 85%. the data sets show small RMSE values, histogram analysis reveals a Gaussian distribution and strong evidence of the validity of the IHS model in the correlation analysis. Various orders of analysis were conducted, with the results indicating that a third-order linear system offers the closest representation of the IHS. the IHS has been modeled and validated using black box system identification has proven successful as there is no significant disparity in the outcomes. © 2024 ieee.

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a crucial device in neuromuscular applications, facilitating restoring functionality of paralyzed muscles and limbs. However, its practical utilization encounters significant nonlinear challenges, predominantly arising from factors like muscle fatigue and time delay. these challenges impede the optimal performance of FES controllers, such as proportional-integral-derivative (PID), sometimes resulting in suboptimal outcomes or complete failure. the nonlinearities introduced by these factors necessitate system adaptability, but traditional controller retuning is often impractical due to its adverse effects on muscle performance. Moreover, introducing time delays can induce instability and oscillations in the system. this study explores the application of direct torque control (DTC) with PID controller to leverage FES-induced muscle torque for knee rehabilitation. through a simulation model developed in MATLAB/Simulink, we empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of the PID-DTC approach in managing the knee extension model with nonlinear time delay in closed-loop FES. the results demonstrate the absence of oscillations, reduced overshoot, and minimal steady-state error, suggesting potential for successful real-world hardware implementation in rehabilitation applications. © 2024 ieee.

In this work we present a complete fully-analog control system for an unknown DC brushed motor measured by an unknown digital incremental rotary encoder. We propose methods for understanding the system, rudimentary identification of the motor model and a theoretical basis for designing such a system. We propose a frequency to voltage converter (FVC) with output filtering. Our system drives the motor at 5 V supply voltage, with a 3200 pulse rotary encoder, to the measured accuracy of 2% of the steady state set axle speed value. © 2024 ieee.

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) assists individuals with neuromuscular impairments during rehabilitation exercises conducted in open-loop and closed-loop. Typically, during the design phase, the closed-loop FES system mainly consists of a feedback controller, a second-order model, or a knee extension model to represent the actual knee. Closed-loop FES or feedback controllers are generally better, but their performance drops in real-world scenarios due to nonlinear factors like fatigue, time delay, spasm, and spasticity. these lead to suboptimal performance of the feedback controllers and even failure, diminishing their effectiveness in assisting patients. In response to these challenges, this paper investigates four different techniques of system reconfiguration, which involves changing the closed-loop system structure to mitigate the adverse effects of time delay in real-world FES applications. To evaluate the effectiveness of the four techniques, a feedback PID controller, knee extension model or second-order critically damped system were developed and tested using MATLAB/Simulink software. the simulation results demonstrate that the first system reconfiguration technique improves system behaviour and enhances FES controller performance. this research marks a significant step towards improving the practicality and adaptability of FES technology for individuals with neuromuscular impairments. © 2024 ieee.

Improving wind turbine efficiency is essential for reducing the costs of energy production. the highly nonlinear dynamics of the wind turbines and their uncertain operating conditions have posed many challenges for their control methods. In this work, a robust control strategy based on sliding mode and adaptive fuzzy disturbance observer is proposed for speed tracking in a variable speed wind turbine. First, the nonlinear mathematical model that describes the dynamics of the variable speed wind turbine is derived. this nonlinear model is then used to derive the control methodology and to find stability and robustness conditions. the control approach is designed to track the optimal wind speed that causes maximum energy extraction. the stability condition was verified using the Lyapunov stability theory. A simulation study was conducted to verify the method, and a comparative analysis was used to measure its effectiveness. the results showed a high tracking ability and robustness of the developed methodology. Moreover, higher power extraction was observed when compared to a classical control method.

Cascading methods becoming widely used in practice especially on improving conventional control such as PID. therefore, to enhancing the capability of cascaded PID control in handling highly nonlinear system, this research proposed a finite-time prescribed performance control with cascaded PID (FTPPC-CPID). the research is focused to cater the nonlinearities and uncertainties of pneumatic rod-piston positioning by considering both its displacement and velocity feedbacks. the pneumatic proportional valve with a doubleacting cylinder (PPVDC) model plant is employed as a targeted plant and comparison studies were done with the conventional cascade PID controller. the results show the proposed FTPPCCPID performing able reduce steady-state errors with fast response and a very minimum overshoot in transient of rodpiston positioning with different trajectory inputs and payload as extrinsic disturbance.

this paper considers a trajectory tracking problem in motion control of a mobile platform. the platform is designed to have differential drive, Arduino microcontroller, Bluetooth connectivity and is battery powered, thus representing a complete mechatronic system. the task at this stage was to provide the platform motion along simple desired trajectories, such as straight lines and curves. During its motion, the platform draws its trajectory on the surface, upon which motion accuracy can be evaluated. Odometry approach is used in solving this task where each wheel motor is driven within a cascaded control structure with conventional digital controllers. Experimental results of several tests are presented and analyzed. © 2024 ieee.

In all the closed-loop feedback industrial processes, the measured sensor signal from the field environment is directly fed to the controller for processing. these raw signals contain the unwanted stochastic noise from the surroundings, which affects the process and controller performance. these issues can be rectified by employing a suitable filtering technique, and the feedback loop performance can be improved significantly. Hence, this paper aims to propose set-point and noise filtering usage in the process control loop. the proposed filtering technique is compared with the existing conventional methods and implemented over the real-time pressure process plant for performance analysis. Also, the numerical comparison is carried out in terms of the rise time, settling time, and peak overshoot for validation of the proposed approach.

Decentralized composite control feedback for a class of interconnected generalized descriptor systems has been investigated and solved by exploiting similarity, symmetry and uncertainty of plant system model. Each sub-system is assumed to have certain structural uncertainty and so do the nonlinear interconnections. the synthesized decentralized control strategy employs a set of three controllers, coupled in parallel: a linear state feedback and two nonlinear ones involving state-dependent switching. this decentralized strategy enforces asymptotic tracking a reference signal while causing no impulse effect. An illustrative example and simulations demonstrate the feasibility and performance effectiveness in stable operating equilibrium. © 2024 ieee.
