the distinguishing feature of the Fog computing (FC) paradigm is that FC spreads communication and computing resources over the wireless access network, so as to provide resource augmentation to resource and energy-limited wireless (possibly mobile) devices. Since FC would lead to substantial reductions in energy consumption and access latency, it will play a key role in the realization of the Fog of Everything (FoE) paradigm. the core challenge of the resulting FoE paradigm is to materialize the seamless convergence of three distinct disciplines, namely, broadband mobile communication, cloud computing, and Internet of Everything (IoE). In this paper, we present a new IoE architecture for FC in order to implement the resulting FoE technological platform. then, we elaborate the related Quality of Service (QoS) requirements to be satisfied by the underlying FoE technological platform. Furthermore, in order to corroborate the conclusion that advancements in the envisioned architecture description, we present: (i) the proposed energy aware algorithm adopt Fog data center;and, (ii) the obtained numerical performance, for a real-world case study that shows that our approach saves energy consumption impressively in the Fog data Center compared with the existing methods and could be of practical interest in the incoming Fog of Everything (FoE) realm.

Currently, 3D sensors can be considered an evolution of cameras by providing the image with its depth information. these sensors have a generic function and the programmer has to process the received information in order to be adapted and used in a specific environment. In robots navigation, the 3D information can be useful for basic behaviours such as "obstacles avoidance" or even more complex behaviours such as "maps generation". In this article an image management system provided by the xTion intelligent sensor is presented. the xTion sensor provides a VGA image and a 3D depth, which allows it to be used for several purposes. In order to distribute the data, it is acquired, processed and sent to several clients with a triple buffer system modified to serve the most recent image to the client. the system is programmed in C for Linux and built-in in a Raspberry PI. the article exposes the performance and results from monitoring the frame's delay comparing it with a simple and a double buffer system widely used in this kind of systems.

this paper proposes a novel method for ergodic sum rate analysis of spatial modulation (SM) systems with maximum likelihood receiver. this method is developed based on the M-T-ary symmetric channel, where M-T is the number of transmit antennas. the probability of antenna detection error is approximated by the pair-wise error probability. then, an approximation to the ergodic sum rate of information transmission via SM with maximum likelihood receiver is computed. It is demonstrated via simulation that the proposed analysis method is able to provide an excellent approximation to the ergodic sum rate of SM.

We propose and show a parallel and distributed runtime environment for multi-agent systems that provides spatial agent migration ability by employing code morphing. the focus of the application scenario lies on sensor networks and low-power, resource-aware single System-On-Chip designs. An agent approach provides stronger autonomy than a traditional object or remote-procedure-call based approach. Agents can decide for themselves which actions are performed, and they are capable of reacting on the environment and other agents with flexible behaviour. Data processing nodes exchange code rather than data to transfer information. A part of the state of an agent is preserved within its own program code, which also implements the agent's migration functionality. the practicability of the approach is shown using a simple distributed Sobel filter as an example.

Equivalent circuit models for fuel cell stacks as well as for the series connection of battery cells are characterized by multiple series-connected RC sub-networks. In practical applications, for example, when aiming at the aging detection and monitoring of the individual cells in a fuel cell stack, it is desired to estimate the individual state variables of each of these series-connected cells. the same holds true for battery management systems that are dedicated to the state of charge (resp., voltage) equalization in a series connection of multiple battery cells. However, the pure knowledge of the current through this series connection as well as the sum over all terminal voltages is insufficient to make the overall system model fully observable. To efficiently observe the state variables in each of the series-connected subsystems, we aim at avoiding the measurement of the voltages of each individual fuel (resp., battery) cell. Instead, this paper presents a systematic sensor switching strategy which allows for estimating the individual state variables of all series-connected subsystems in an Unscented Kalman Filter framework. Simulation results are presented to compare the achievable estimation accuracy with a scenario in which all cell (resp., terminal) voltages were measured simultaneously. © 2023 ieee.

the proliferation of modern smartphones has given rise to Public Sensing, a new paradigm for data acquisition systems utilizing smartphones of mobile participants. In this paper, we present DrOPS, a system for improving the efficiency of data acquisition in Public Sensing systems. DrOPS utilizes a model-driven approach, where the number of required readings from mobile smartphones is reduced by inferring readings from the model. Furthermore, the model can be used to infer readings for positions where no sensor is available. the model is directly constructed from the observed phenomenon in an online fashion. Using such models together with a client-specified quality bound, we can significantly reduce the effort for data acquisition while still reporting data of required quality to the client. To this effect, we develop a set of online learning and control algorithms to create and validate the model of the observed phenomenon and present a sensing task execution system utilizing our algorithms in this paper. Our evaluations show that we obtain models in a matter of just hours or even minutes. Using the model-driven approach for optimizing the data acquisition, we can save up to 80% of energy for communication and provide inferred temperature readings for uncovered positions matching an error-bound of 1 degrees C up to 100% of the time.

distributed data life cycles consist of data sources, data and computing components as well as data sinks and user facing elements. the complexity of the underlying systems is ever rising with the increasing heterogeneity and distribution of components and environments. Researchers would like to focus on their specific research topic without the need to learn these systems in detail. Accessible data life cycles enable scientists to do better science more efficiently and obtain results, which would not have been possible without these advanced technologies. For this objective, abstraction to hide complexity and automation to avoid manual tasks are a necessity. these are embodied in the three conceptual data life cycle challenges, namely data, computing and utilization. Concepts and technologies to manage these challenges are explored and exemplified on the basis of the general data life cycle and MoSGrid (Molecular Simulation Grid) science gateway. In this context, we especially focus on teaching in drug design and quantum chemistry research use cases. Further cases are presented elucidating various challenges in adapting the concepts and technologies to wind energy data analysis and the XSEDE research infrastructure.

Recently an approach that combined the techniques in distributed classification and the ones in error-correcting codes has been proposed to design a fault-tolerant classification system in wireless networks. the codeword implemented at the fusion center is assigned based on each phenomenon and each detection result of every sensor. A local decision represented by one bit is made according to the codeword and the detection result. thus, the length of the codeword designed is equal to the number of sensors. In this paper, we propose a new distributed detection scheme combined with two-dimensional channel coding. Multiple detections are conducted by each sensor for the same phenomenon. A two-dimensional code that combines the designed code and a repetition code is implemented at the fusion center for decoding. the virtual code length of this two-dimensional code is the code length of the designed code multiplied with the number of detections conducted at each sensor. Compared with the previous methods, the new scheme has higher classification reliability and lower sensor complexity. © 2005 ieee.
