Development of smart city concept is challenging for every city. Smart city approach consists of several components and one of them is smart traffic. Parking is one of the smart traffic components. Due to the rapid growth of vehicles on the streets, finding an available parking space is becoming a big obstacle in modern life. For cities with large number of residents or places where sports or artistic events take place, search for a free parking lot is a major problem and can be a frustrating experience. Parking management system affects and improves people's daily life experience and is an important component of a modern traffic system. Smart parking system allows drivers to obtain real-time parking data, by using Internet of things technologies to gather and process information from parking lots. thus, intelligent, innovative and efficient ways for parking are needed to coordinate the parking demands efficiently. Authors of this paper share the approach, which is implemented in Jelgava city in Latvia, where two smart parking systems are developed. One system is based on inductive sensors, which can recognize vehicle on each parking lot. Second approach is based on vehicle identification on video stream, which is used to register cars on parking entrance and exit, counting total number of free parking lots, but without indicating which particular lots are free or occupied.

Internet of things (IoT) envisions as a global network, connecting any objects around us, ranging from home appliances, wearable things to military applications. With IoT infrastructure, physical objects such as wearable objects, television, refrigerator, smart phones, supply-chain items and any objects across the globe would get connected using the Internet. Sensing, radio waves, mobile technology, embedded systems and Internet technology are promising actors which play significant roles in IoT infrastructure. Security and privacy issues in IoT scenarios would be much more challenging than what is been used in the conventional wireless scenarios. In particular, the constrained environments require lightweight primitives, secure design and effective integration into other environments in order to see IoT in its desired shape. In this paper, we discuss security and privacy challenges in IoT scenarios and applications with special emphasis on resource-constrained environments' security objectives and privacy requirement. We provide different perspectives of IoT, discuss about important driving forces of IoT, and propose a generic construction of secure protocol suitable for constrained environments with respect to IoT scenarios and applications.

We present dispel4py a versatile data-intensive kit presented as a standard Python library. It empowers scientists to experiment and test ideas using their familiar rapid-prototyping environment. It delivers mappings to diverse computing infrastructures, including cloud technologies, HPC architectures and specialised data-intensive machines, to move seamlessly into production with large-scale data loads. the mappings are fully automated, so that the encoded data analyses and data handling are completely unchanged. the underpinning model is lightweight composition of fine-grained operations on data, coupled together by data streams that use the lowest cost technology available. these fine-grained workflows are locally interpreted during development and mapped to multiple nodes and systems such as MPI and Storm for production. We explain why such an approach is becoming more essential in order that data-driven research can innovate rapidly and exploit the growing wealth of data while adapting to current technical trends. We show how provenance management is provided to improve understanding and reproducibility, and how a registry supports consistency and sharing. three application domains are reported and measurements on multiple infrastructures show the optimisations achieved. Finally we present the next steps to achieve scalability and performance.

In a pure sensor network thousands of sensors are distributed over a large area. sensor data is relayed from sensor node to node until it reaches the edge node, where it is then routed by wire to the host. In this paper we study the effect of data collection on the battery and buffer of a sensor node, and on the overall sensor network. We determine the relationship among battery life, sampling frequency, buffer size, etc. We claim that using identical sensors throughout a large scale sensor network may not achieve the best result. We suggest some guidelines for deploying a large scale sensor network. We then propose routing algorithms that are robust, truly distributed, and efficient in utilizing the sensor network.

Emerging large scale distributed networking systems, such as P2P file sharing systems, sensor networks, and ad hoc wireless networks, require replication of content, functionality, or configuration to enact or optimize communication tasks. the placement of these replicated resources can significantly impact performance. We present a novel self-stabilizing, fully distributed, asynchronous, scalable protocol that can be used to place replicated resources such that each node is "close" to some copy of any object. We describe our protocol in the context of a graph with colored nodes, where a node's color indicates the replica/task that it is assigned. Our combination of theoretical results and simulation prove stabilization of the protocol, and evaluate its performance in the context of convergence time, message transmissions, and color distance. Our results show that the protocol generates colorings that are close to the optimal under a set of metrics, making such a protocol ideal for emerging networking systems.

A ubiquitous computing environment entails numerous embedded devices with enough computational power. Such distributed computing resources can cooperate to create applications which support users' everyday lives. Such an environment requires robust middleware that can handle a large quantity of messages, such as event data or sensor data are occurred between devices. However, the lack of middleware technologies with such functionalities has been making it difficult to create ubiquitous computing applications that we can depend on in their everyday life. In this paper, we propose a novel middleware, named RT-Dragon, which can handle numerous messages with robustness. RT-Dragon can work effectively on systems both realtime and non-realtime runtime because of the mechanism of two level priority-based task processing. In this paper additionally, we evaluate the effectiveness of RT-Dragon on non-RT runtime.

the presented work contains a description of the pump device wireless diagnostics system. A dedicated SCADA system has been developed and allows the determination and evaluation of the pump system operating parameters. Device diagnostics is performed automatically based on current and historical mechanical, hydraulic and electrical parameters collected in the database. the presented system consists of a central server and measurement stations with integrated GSM routers. Each of the stations can be used both as an element of a distributed measurement system and can autonomously implement a selected control algorithm. the influence of the object's hydraulic parameters on vibrations was examined and the assessment of selected hydraulic parameters recorded during the test was presented.

Existing sensor-assisted mHealth applications would benefit from large-scale sharing of sensor information in real-time. Existing communication solutions are however limited in this respect, because of centralized application-level communication. In response to this, we presents a distributed communication solution for mHealth applications which circumvents these limitations. Our Internet-of-things architecture enables mHealth applications to utilize information from sensors and wireless sensor networks via a peer-to-peer overlay, where sensor information is organized in an information model which is stored in the overlay itself. We present a proof-of-concept application and evaluation results regarding the architecture's real-time capabilities. the results indicate that a fully distributed architecture can support real-time sensing in mHealth applications and the support is available as an open source platform, MediaSense. Current work is focused on evaluating scalability in very large scale scenarios using field trials.
