Ensuring worker safety and compliance on construction sites is critical due to the high-risk nature of the environment and the need for efficient material handling. this paper presents a deep learning-based system for real-time detection and recognition of construction materials and equipment to enhance safety and optimize workflows. the model integrates pre-trained facial recognition networks (VGG Face) and object detection models (YOLO) to achieve accurate worker identification and material classification. A custom dataset was created, comprising 52 images for each of the 24 material/equipment classes and 20 worker profiles from 7 trades, including carpenters, metalworkers, and heavy machinery operators. the system successfully detects and classifies 24 distinct material classes, achieving 88.4 % precision and 63.7 % recall. By verifying workers' presence in designated environments and detecting materials in real-time, the proposed system ensures compliance with safety regulations and addresses critical challenges in construction site monitoring and safety enforcement.

A supply chain is getting an advantage from the technology's lucidity, less transaction expenses, and real-time data applications. Internet of things (IoT) and Blockchain technology (BT) has gain remarkable attention by academician and industrial practitioner in recent years as these pair is disrupting a lot of businesses now. BT enables transactional security while IoT connects the physical and digital world with apps and sensors. In this study, a systematic literature review (SLR) is performed to explore the application of integrated IoT-BT in the supply chain and its implementation challenges. the different technologies listed are grouped into the supply chain's five functional fields i.e., responsiveness, intelligence, deductive, surveillance and operational excellence. the result reveals that IoT-BT is mostly used for surveillance purposes and to achieve operational excellence.

In Wireless Sensor-Actor Networks (WSANs), sensors probe the surroundings and forward their data to actors. Actors collaboratively respond to achieve predefined application mission. However, since the environment where WSANs are used is usually complex and harsh, actors cannot communicate with its neighbor actors occasionally due to the failure of an actor. Although the recent work provides a connection restoration scheme between actors, disconnection intermittently occurs since each actor moves to new position one-by-one. In this paper, we propose a concurrent moving-based connection restoration scheme between actors to ensure the continuous connectivity. By sending a message to neighbor actor before moving, an actor can inform when it starts to move and where it moves to. thus, neighbor actors which receive a message can calculate when it starts to move for concurrent move of actors. An actor starts to move when the communication with neighbor actors is unavailable due to neighbor actor's move. Further, when the actor starts to move, it creates sub-paths to its moving neighbor actor for continuous connectivity. the network restoration time is shortened because of concurrently moving instead of moving one by one. We show that our scheme restores the network connectivity much robuster and faster than the conventional scheme by computer simulation.

Since the beginning of the ubiquitous computing era, context-aware applications have been envisioned and pursued, with location and especially proximity information being one of the primary building blocks. To date, there is still a lack of feasible solutions to perform proximity tests between mobile entities in a privacy-preserving manner, i.e., one that does not disclose one's location in case the other party is not in proximity. In this paper, we present our novel approach based on location tags built from surrounding Wi-Fi signals originating only from mobile devices. Since the set of mobile devices at a given location changes over time, this approach ensures the user's privacy when performing proximity tests. To improve the robustness of similarity calculations, we introduce a novel extension of the commonly used cosine similarity measure to allow for weighing its components while preserving the signal strength semantics. Our system is evaluated extensively in various settings, ranging from office scenarios to crowded mass events. the results show that our system allows for robust short-range proximity detection while preserving the participants' privacy.

It is important for an IoT device to be able to access the network with no or small delay in order to send its data to the Internet quickly. Particularly, in real time applications that time is of the essence, this delay should be small. the period of time from when an IoT device initiates a Random Access (RA) process to get access to the network until it sends its data is called the latency. Since the latency is dependent on the number of IoT devices in the network, the way that each device generates its traffic, and many other factors, it is extremely challenging to accurately estimate the latency. In this paper, we provide a simplistic view to estimate the latency in various situations based on the number of collisions, repetition, and data size for various RA processes belonging to different Cellular Internet of things (CIoT) technology enhancements. To simplify the situation, we only discuss the most important factors. this simplistic view gives the reader a sense of the trimming of different parts of the RA process without using a complex simulator or analytical model.

the deep integration of IoT into our daily lives has made the security of IoT everyone's priority, from IoT device manufacturers to IoT developers and final customers. Even though every year millions of IoT devices are introduced to the market, security, and privacy have not been competently addressed. Based on the survey of IoT challenges, IoT applications face many threats in Network communication, storage access, device identification and Authentication, program execution, firmware update, Secure Boot, etc. IoT devices are vulnerable to attacks, which breach the security and privacy of users and systems. Commonly most IoT applications are deployed using common operating systems that do not address IoT specialized security requirements. this paper introduces xPython, a novel secure-by-design operating system for IoT subsystems (devices and gateways). xPython provides transparent security solutions for common threats in addition to a security library for custom security implementation. xPython minimizes the time required to develop security features. xPython is secure by design to ensure security features are included at all stages of product creation and deployment. this paper proposes a new architecture for IoT operating systems, and it ends with a complete prototype implementation. the proposed architecture integrates security services inside operating system layers. It affects device initiation, communication protocols, application deployment, and application execution, ensuring software is executed securely, including non-secure applications (secure boot) and storage access. the proposed security solutions are inspired by previous work in Smart Cards. Smart Cards are considered a trusted environment for identification, authentication, and confidentiality. With the increasing focus on healthcare, especially real-time analytics and self-diagnosis, the interest in capturing real-time patient data has increased significantly for both physicians and patients. the development of smart devices that can collect data such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar level, etc., has greatly contributed to improving individual health management capabilities. However, these advances also, bring challenges such as concerns over safety, reliability, and accurate diagnosis. Problems often arise, especially when exchanging information and transmitting data. To overcome these challenges, this project uses blockchain technology to improve data transmission and security. this study explores the use of blockchain-based internet solutions by integrating blockchain into smart health-care. Additionally, the digital twin concept is used to improve diagnosis by simulating the effects of drugs on virtual objects. Based on the results of these simulations, physicians can make informed decisions about appropriate medications and accurately assess a patient's condition. A health monitoring system using digital twin technology and blockchain can be implemented to securely organize the collection of user information and enable accurate diagnosis. this integration ensures secure storage and transmission of your data and improves your health outcomes. In this paper, we study the integrating blockchain technology with Digital Twin for patient health monitoring. We showcase an interface connected to the blockchain database, specifically designed for doctors to review patient health records through patient wallet address and determine the normalcy of the patient's heart rate based on their medical data. Additionally, the interface allows doctors to predict the effect of medication on the patient's heart rate and blood pressure.

the coarse-grained reconfigurable architecture (CGRA) is proven to be energy efficient in many domains, such as multi-media and signal processing. However, the continuous updating of configuration context limits the performance of reconfigurable systems severely. Configuration context cache is usually introduced in CGRAs to solve this problem. this paper proposes several methods to improve the performance of the configuration context cache. Firstly, the configuration context is classified into three levels. Secondly, a three-level hierarchical cache structure, based on the Pre-fetch and Hybrid-Priority strategies, is adopted to reduce the cache accessing time. Finally, a novel Two-Side-View design, including the physical view and the logic view, is implemented to reduce the cache size. the experimental results show that the proposed structure is 2.23 times and 2.06 times better than the up-to-date centralized and distributed structures. the proposed cache structure has been integrated in a reconfigurable computing processor called REMUS-II. When processing multi-media applications, REMUS-II can realize 1080p HiP@30fps decoding at frequency of 200MHz.

Robotic systems are used in a range of applications to carry out inspection and repair tasks in hostile environments and in otherwise inaccessible locations. Applied robotics has found several niche applications in Hydro-Quebec operations. One example of a recently developed robotic solution for power line applications is the LineROVer Technology. Now that the technology has proven its worth for power system applications, the next logical step in the project is to develop a vehicle capable of clearing such obstacles as insulator strings, vibration dampers, aircraft warning spheres and corona rings. It must also clear spacer dampers and insulator strings as it travels along conductor bundles. the LineScout robot developed meets this requirement and can clear obstacles as it travels down a line. It can move along several axes, allowing it to adjust its shape in real time to various line configurations and to a wide range of obstacles while remaining as light and compact as possible. the robot's geometry was engineered to give it at least six possible obstacle-clearing sequences, making it versatile in unforeseen situations. the robot can operate on an energized line, has one-day battery life and can be remotely controlled 5 km away. the control approach and electronics allow intuitive human operation of the robot. Moreover, it can operate semi-autonomously, learning to clear obstacles by means of automated sequences. the LineScout Technology described in this paper is a versatile moving platform that extends live-line inspection capabilities and lends itself to future power line repair work

Deep learning and especially the use of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) provides impressive results in various regression and classification tasks. However, to achieve these results, there is a high demand for computing and storing resources. this becomes problematic when, for instance, real-time, mobile applications are considered, in which the involved (embedded) devices have limited resources. A common way of addressing this problem is to transform the original large pre-trained networks into new smaller models, by utilizing Model Compression and Acceleration (MCA) techniques. Within the MCA framework, we propose a clustering-based approach that is able to increase the number of employed centroids/representatives, while at the same time, have an acceleration gain compared to conventional, k-means based approaches. this is achieved by imposing a special structure to the employed representatives, which is enabled by the particularities of the problem at hand. Moreover, the theoretical acceleration gains are presented and the key system hyper-parameters that affect that gain, are identified. Extensive evaluation studies carried out using various state-of-the-art DNN models trained in image classification, validate the superiority of the proposed method as compared for its use in MCA tasks.
