In parallel programs concurrency bugs are often caused by unsynchronized accesses to shared memory locations, which are called data races. In order to support programmers in writing correct parallel programs, it is therefore highly desired to have tools on hand that automatically detect such data races. Today, most of these tools only consider unsynchronized read and write operations on a single memory location. Concurrency bugs that involve multiple accesses on a set of correlated variables may be completely missed. Tools may overwhelm programmers with data races on various memory locations, without noticing that the locations are correlated. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to data race detection that automatically infers sets of correlated variables and logical operations by analyzing data and control dependencies. For data race detection itself, we combine a modified version of the lockset algorithm with happens-before analysis providing the first hybrid, dynamic race detector for correlated variables. We implemented our approach on top of the Valgrind, a framework for dynamic binary instrumentation. Our evaluation confirmed that we can catch data races missed by existing detectors and provide additional information for correct bug fixing.

An emotional agent software architecture for real-time mobile robotic applications has been developed. In order to allow the agent to undertake more dynamically constrained application problem solving, the processor computation time should be reduced and the gained time is used for executing more complex processes. In this paper, the response time of the operating processes, in each attention cycle of the agent, is decreased by parallelizing the highly parallel processes of the architecture, namely, emotional contribution processes. the implementation of these processes has been evaluated in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and multicore processors.

this paper makes a comparison of three parallel point-multiplication algorithms on conic curves over ring Zn. We propose one algorithm for paralleling point-multiplication by utilizing Chinese Remainder theorem to divide point-multiplication over ring Zn into two different point-multiplications over finite field and to compute them respectively. Time complexity and speedup ratio of this parallel algorithm are computed on the basis of our previous research about the basic parallel algorithms in conic curves cryptosystem. A quantitative performance analysis is made to compare this algorithm with two other algorithms we designed before. the performance comparison demonstrates that the algorithm presented in this paper can reduce time complexity of point-multiplication on conic curves over ring Zn and it is more efficient than the preceding ones.

In this paper we consider the educational and research systems that can be used to estimate the efficiency of parallel computing. ParaLab allows parallel computation methods to be studies. With the ParaLib library, we can compare the parallel programming languages and technologies. the Globalizer Lab system is capable of estimating the efficiency of algorithms for solving computationally intensive global optimization problems. these systems can build models of various high-performance systems, formulate the problems to be solved, perform computational experiments in the simulation mode and analyze the results. the crucial matter is that the described systems support a visual representation of the parallel computation process. If combined, these systems can be useful for developing high-performance parallel programs which take the specific features of modern supercomputing systems into account.

this article describes an approach to scalability analysis of parallel applications, which is a major part of the algorithm description used in AlgoWiki, the Open Encyclopedia of parallel Algorithmic Features. the proposed approach is based on the suggested definition of generalized scalability of a parallel application. this study uses joined and structured data on an application's execution and supercomputing co-design technologies. parallel application properties are studied by analyzing data collected from all available sources of its dynamic characteristics and information about the hardware and software platforms corresponding with the features of an algorithm and its implementation. this allows reasonable conclusion to be drawn regarding potential reasons of changes in the execution quality for any parallel applications and to compare the scalability of various programs.

An addition chain for a natural number x of n bits is a sequence of numbers a(0), a(1), ... , a(l), such that a(0) = 1, a(l) = x, and a(k) = a(i) + a(j) with 0 <= i, j < k <= l. the addition chain problem is what is the minimal number of additions needed to compute X starting from 1? In this paper, we present a new parallel algorithm to generate a short addition chain for x. the algorithm has running time O(log(2) n) using polynomial number processors under EREW PRAM (exclusive read exclusive write parallel random access machine). the algorithm is faster than previous algorithms and is based on binary method.

the latest advancements in computer graphics architectures, as the replacement of some fixed stages of the pipeline for programmable stages (shaders), have been enabling the development of parallel general purpose applications on massively parallel graphics architectures (Streaming Processors). For years the graphics processing unit (GPU) is being optimized for increasingly high throughput of massively parallel floating-point computations. However, only the applications that exhibit Data Level parallelism can achieve substantial acceleration in such architectures. In this paper we present a parallel implementation of the GridRT architecture for GPGPU ray tracing. Such architecture can expose two levels of parallelism in ray tracing: parallel ray processing and parallel intersection tests, respectively. We also present a traditional parallel implementation of ray tracing in GPGPU, for comparison against the GridRT-GPGPU implementation.

the main contribution of this paper is to present an implementation that performs the exhaustive search to verify the Collatz conjecture using a GPU. Consider the following operation on an arbitrary positive number: if the number is even, divide it by two, and if the number is odd, triple it and add one. the Collatz conjecture asserts that, starting from any positive number m, repeated iteration of the operations eventually produces the value 1. We have implemented it on NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN and evaluated the performance. the experimental results show that, our GPU implementation can verify 5.01x10(11) 64-bit numbers per second, while the CPU implementation on Intel Xeon X7460 can verify 1.80 x 10(9) 64-bit numbers per second. thus, our implementation on the GPU attains a speed-up factor of 278 over the single CPU implementation.

In this paper, we analyze the jitter and packet loss behavior of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) traffic by means of networks measurements and simulations results. As result of these analyses, we provide a detailed characterization and accurate modeling of these Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. Our studies have revealed that VoIP jitter can be modeled by self-similar and multifractal models. We present a methodology for simulating packet loss. Besides, we found relationships between Hurst parameter (H) with packet loss rate (PLR).
