Sensory feedback provided by prosthetic hands shows promise in increasing functional abilities and promoting embodiment of the prosthetic device. However, sensory feedback is limited based on where sensors are placed on the prosthetic device and has mainly focused on sensorizing the fingertips. Here we describe distributed tactile sensors for the palmar surfaces of prosthetic hands. We believe a sensing system that can detect interactions across the palmar surfaces in addition to the fingertips will further improve the experience for the prosthetic user and may increase embodiment of the device as well. this work details the design of a compliant distributed sensor which consists of PiezoResistive and PiezoElectric layers to produce a robust force measurement of both static and dynamic loads. this assembled sensor system is easy to customize to cover different areas of the prosthetic hand, simple to scale up, and flexible to different fabrication form-factors. the experimental results detail a load estimation accuracy of 95.4% and sensor response time of less than 200ms. Cycle tests of each sensor shows a drifting of within 10% of sensing capability under load and 6.37% in a no-load longitudinal test. these validation experiments reinforce the ability of the DualPiezo structure to provide a valuable sensor design for the palmar surfaces of prosthetic hands.

Imagination is a fundamental element for creativity and innovation across multiple disciplines. However, existing frameworks often lack a structured approach to effectively integrate imagination into creative computing. this paper presents the three-Tier Classification of Science (TTCS) framework, which categorises imagination into three types: sensory, epistemic, and collaborative. these categories are mapped to distinct disciplinary applications, such as natural sciences, arts, and interdisciplinary studies. the proposed framework introduces a deep-deploying strategy to embed these types of imagination into a modular system architecture, enhancing adaptive and responsive features necessary for dependent system design. through deep integration of imagination-driven components, the TTCS framework supports dynamic user engagement and context-sensitive adjustments. the effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated via a prototype system for art design, where sensory and epistemic imagination enable detailed exploration, while collaborative imagination facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration. the proposed framework provides a structured pathway for creative computing applications and has potential implications for fields like engineering, social sciences, and computational modelling.

With the spread of smart devices, the use of big data, and the proliferation of the Internet of things, virtualization technology for cloud servers have become important worldwide. Also, research has been conducted to efficiently manage the resources of hosts in VMs. Container-based virtualization has less performance degradation than VMs because there is no emulation for the operating system. Using the Docker API is slow to measure. In this paper, we implement the resource measurement module of Job nodes and design middleware that supports auto-scaling in auto-scaling module and Docker-based multi-host environment. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

this paper proposes an improved orthogonal design assisted particle swarm optimization (ODPSO), effectively addressing the issue of traditional PSO easily getting trapped in local optima. Constructed using the orthogonal experimental design method, the orthogonal table of ODPSO integrates information from the current position of particles, individual best positions, and global best positions, enhancing global search capabilities while reducing reliance on random initial particles, thereby avoiding premature convergence, and strengthening optimization capabilities. Across 13 benchmark functions in the continuous domain, ODPSO demonstrates faster convergence speed and higher optimization accuracy compared to traditional particle swarm optimization (PSO), orthogonal predicted genetic algorithm (OPGA), and other algorithms, particularly excelling in multimodal functions. the innovation of this study lies in proposing a novel orthogonal learning strategy and demonstrating the effectiveness of ODPSO through systematic evaluation, providing robust support for the improvement of PSO.

With the rapid development of computer technology, people’s life has become more and more convenient, and it is widely used in all fields. three dimensional modeling of ship structure is a very important research direction in ship design. With the development of computer-aided three-dimensional modeling software, the realization of rapid and intelligent hull structure design is of great and practical significance, which can improve the efficiency of ship design, speed up the progress of shipbuilding, and enhance the overall competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry. the traditional modeling method of hull structure 3D modeling is to build a small part of the hull segment with the help of some professional 3D modeling software. the workload is very large, not only need to consume a lot of human resources and material resources, but also low efficiency, also need to use skilled design software personnel. In this paper, solidwoks 3D design software, as a secondary development technology, is used as the platform of graphic expression. In the design process, microsor file is used to store, visual basic language is used to program, and several problems of 3D modeling of ship structure are studied. the 3D modeling software system of hull structure is developed to realize the rapid design of hull structure and generate the 3D model and engineering drawings of the target ship. this paper introduces a method of ship design automation based on three-dimensional modeling technology. It aims to study the method of quickly building three-dimensional model of ship structure, provide a set of three-dimensional design software which is in line with design specifications, simple to use and complete in function for ship structure design, and provide a new method for other three-dimensional modeling problems in ship design. © 2021, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Exponential-Golomb code is a variable-length code used in lossless data compression. It entails encoding nonnegative integers into code words whose lengths correlate with the magnitudes of the encoded numbers. this correlation can be altered through variations in the Golomb parameter used for the encoding process. A compression algorithm utilizing Exponential-Golomb coding is proposed, which encodes a fixed number of integers together with the same value for the Golomb parameter, forming a block of encoded samples. A lossy compression variant is also proposed, which employs partial data discarding, allowing the user to set an upper bound on the total bit-length of the compressed block of input samples. An extension to Exponential-Golomb code is also proposed, which enables the encoding of two's complement signed integers while preserving the sign bit in lossy compression. the algorithms have been implemented as parameterizable hardware design generators written in Chisel hardware description language (HDL). Generated hardware instances have undergone testing through simulations and verification on a commercially available FPGA platform.

Congruent action observation (AO) and motor imagery (MI) has been shown to enhance cortical excitability. In this study, a Combined AO, MI and Steady state motion visual evoked potential (SSMVEP) brain computer interface (CAMS BCI) was proposed. the study hypothesized that a short CAMS BCI intervention can alter cortical excitability in the movement related cortical areas manifesting as changes in the movement related cortical potential (MRCP). A 40-minute intervention of gait observation and imagination was performed on nineteen healthy volunteers. the MRCP related to ankle dorsiflexion was measured Pre- and Post- intervention. the analysis compared several MRCP components $(\mathbf{BP}_design, \mathbf{BP}_design, \mathbf{PN}$ , Sloper and Slope 2 ) on five EEG channels $(\mathbf{C}_design, \mathbf{C}_{\mathrm{z}}, \mathbf{C}_design, \mathbf{FC}_{z}$ and $\mathbf{CP}_{\mathrm{z}})$ . A consistent increase in the negativity across all MRCP components was observed. Specifically, a significant increase in negativity of the readiness potential was observed in channels $\mathbf{C}_design, \mathbf{C}_{\mathbf{z}}$ , and $\mathbf{C}_design$ placed over the primary motor cortex. the results demonstrated that CAMS BCI enhances cortical excitability related to movement preparation and execution. Furthermore, the proposed CAMS BCI not only can evoke SSMVEP and sensorimotor rhythm, but can also enhance MRCP when applied as an intervention. the proposed CAMS BCI paradigm is appealing for neuro-rehabilitation applications and informs future BCI designs.

the recent rapid increase in electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging stations has led to the emergence of hybrid energy stations (ESs) that combine photovoltaic systems ($\mathbf{P V}$) and battery energy storage systems (BESSs) to produce power with optimized efficiency. Various types of ESs with different operational methods are being studied. this paper proposes an optimal sizing design and operation method for an ES, from the perspective of BESS operational modes, for cost optimization. the proposed algorithm divides the BESS modes into charging, discharging, and idle states based on the price differentials of peak times, system marginal price (SMP), and EV time of use (TOU), as well as the trend of EV arrivals. Using this algorithm, the optimal sizes of PV and BESS are determined, and the operation of BESS is analyzed. We hope that this paper will be helpful in cost optimization study of hybrid ESs.

A major challenge that deep learning systems face is the Catastrophic Forgetting (CF) phenomenon that is observed when fine-tuning is used to try and adapt a system to a new task or a sequence of datasets with different distributions. CF refers to the significant degradation in performance on the old task/dataset. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed to address CF in computer aided diagnosis (CAD) system design in the medical domain. CAD systems often need to handle a sequence of datasets collected over time from different sites with different imaging parameters/populations. the solution we propose is to move samples from all the datasets closer to a common manifold via a reformer at the front end of a CAD system. the utility of this approach is demonstrated on two common tasks, namely segmentation and classification, using publicly available datasets. Results of extensive experiments show that manifold learning can yield about 74% improvement on an average in the reduction of CF over the baseline fine-tuning process and the state-of-the-art regularization based methods. the results also indicate that a Reformer when used in conjunction with the state-of-the-art regularization methods, has the potential to yield further improvement in CF reduction. © 2021 ACM.
