this paper proposes a novel approach to convert a 3D scan to its CAD counterpart. the objective is to extract intermediate sketch planes that well represent the input scan and are close enough to the original design intent. these sketches can then be easily converted into CAD models automatically due to their faithful representation of the input geometry. One objective is to avoid incorporating user/company dependent content in the CAD reconstruction process. the intermediate representation shall be directly supported in any CAD environment to boost the designer's work without the need of supplementary (model conversion, automatic feature recognition) steps. Nowadays, it is common to digitize an object and reconstruct its geometric primitives. However, this reconstruction contains only geometry. In literature, the final goal might be met by recovering the modeling tree itself, by means of automatic feature recognition, and converting to the proper format of a specific CAD software package. However, the constructed tree and its conversion introduce issues in the reconstruction process. the definition of an exact modeling tree, and the production of a meaningful final CAD model are rather hard to obtain. this imposes a rather inefficient working method, thereby heavily impacting the designer's modeling skills. the purpose of this study is to discuss how the teaching of Descriptive Geometry (DG) for freshman students of architecture at the State University of Londrina, PR, Brazil has evolved from 1990 to the present. this study examines the problems faced during these thirty years of teaching of DG and the ways they have been solved. It also involved conducting a survey of the different tasks carried out with the architecture students during this period, as well as examining the different educational resources that have been used. these include for example: (a) the use of concrete materials to help students visualize points, straight lines and planes in three-dimensional space;(b) the use of card games that have been purposely designed to enable students to learn lines and planes;(c) the designing of physical objects with a specific architectural purpose;(d) the use of a CAD tool to visualize 3D objects represented through orthographic projections;(e) the use of BIM authoring tools and (f) the creation of a website to make classes and exercises available to students, as well as for setting up the virtual learning environment (VLE) Moodle Platform. Finally, we provide a report on the changes that have been made to this course following the revision of the architecture curriculum in 2019 and the removal of the DG course from the current syllabus. © 2021, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Recently, there are growing security and privacy concerns regarding smart voice speakers, such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Extensive prior research has shown that it is surprisingly easy to infer Amazon Alexa voice commands over their network traffic data. To prevent these traffic analytics (TA)-based inference attacks, smart home owners are considering deploying virtual private networks (VPNs) to safeguard their smart speakers. In this work, we design a new machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL)-powered attack framework---VoiceAttack that could still accurately fingerprint voice commands on VPN-encrypted voice speaker network traffic. We evaluate VoiceAttack under 5 different real-world settings using Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Our results show that VoiceAttack could correctly infer voice command sentences with a Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC) of 0.68 in a closed-world setting and infer voice command categories with an MCC of 0.84 in an open-world setting by eavesdropping VPN-encrypted network traffic rates. this presents a significant risk to user privacy and security, as it suggests that external on-path attackers could still potentially intercept and decipher users' voice commands despite the VPN encryption. We then further examine the sensitivity of voice speaker commands to VoiceAttack. We find that 134 voice speaker commands are highly vulnerable to VoiceAttack and 3 commands are less sensitive. We also present a proof-of-concept defense approach---VoiceDefense, which could effectively mitigate TA attack accuracy on Amazon Echo and Google Home by ~50%.

the Team Orienteering Problem (TOP) is to find multiple optimal subsets of nodes and the associated routes to visit these nodes with the objective to maximize the total profits and under the constraint that the traveling cost of each route does not exceed the given cost limit. Such a problem is very challenging and difficult to solve because it involves node selection optimization, route optimization, and cost constraints for multiple routes. thanks to the significantly good performance of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithms in solving path planning problems, they are considered promising for addressing TOP. To this end, this paper takes the first attempt to adapt five classical ACO algorithms, namely the Ant System (AS), Elitist Ant System (EAS), Rank-based Ant System (AS rank), Min-Max Ant System (MMAS), and Ant Colony System (ACS), to solve TOP. To achieve this, we maintain an ant team consisting of multiple ants to construct a feasible solution containing multiple routes. Further, we design an ant selection scheme for the ant team to select the next node to visit in the route construction by considering the given cost constraints. To assess the optimization performance of the five adapted ACO algorithms in solving TOP, experiments are conducted on the classical TOP instances. the results reveal that all five ACO algorithms are promising for addressing TOP. Particularly, ACS excels in maximizing the overall team profit, while EAS demonstrates good stability in minimizing the profit differences between routes.

Internet of things (IoT) is becoming an important approach to accomplish healthcare monitoring where critical medical data retrieval is essential in a secure and private manner. Nevertheless, IoT devices have constrained resources. therefore, acquisition of efficient, secure and private data is very challenging. the current research on applying architecture of Named Data Networking (NDN) to IoT design reveals very promising results. therefore, we are motivated to combine NDN and IoT, which we call NDN-IoT architecture, for a healthcare application. Inspired by the idea, we propose a healthcare monitoring groundwork integrating NDN concepts into IoT in Contiki NG OS at the network layer that we call μNDN as it is a micro and light-weight implementation. We quantitatively explore the usage of the NDN-IoT approach to understand its efficiency for medical data retrieval. Reliability and delay performances were evaluated and analyzed for a remote health application. Our results, in this study, show that the μNDN architecture performs better than IP architecture when retrieving medical data. thus, it is worth exploring the μNDN architecture further.

Brain tumor is one of the diseases that seriously threaten human life and health. Accurate segmentation of tumor lesion region is an important step in image-guided radiotherapy, and also a key part in planning effective treatment strategies and preventing other diseases. In order to solve the problems of low contrast and high Imaging redundancy between adjacent organs in Magnetic Resonance Imaging images (MRI) segmentation of brain tumor. In this paper, we propose a hybrid efficient segmentation network based on a deep learning approach to extract MRI brain tumor volume feature maps using 2D convolution at the encoder, and design an Efficient Self-Attention Module (ESAM) to focus on robust feature map parameters while narrowing the parameter weights of irrelevant features. the Hybrid Cross-Attention Module (HCAM) explicitly models the correlation between the two stage feature maps in the decoder stage, and dynamically recalibrates the feature maps according to the input context features. We introduce spatial information of 3D images by fusing multi-view fusion training model. the accurate segmentation and lightweight design of MRI segmentation network will provide a powerful reference for clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors.

Graphology is the science of reading and analysing handwriting to detect the personality traits of a person. We have incorporated the concept of graphology with the use of computer systems, making the process of analysis faster, more reliable and cost efficient. this paper focuses on the use of computer aided graphology in the field of aviation where the pilots are checked before the flight to determine whether they are psychologically/mentally fit to fly the plane. there have been various cases in the past where the pilots had crashed the plane due to depression, stress, tension, fatigue, lack of sleep or intoxication. All of these can be majorly detected by graphological analysis as shown in this paper to prevent any such casualties.

In this paper, we propose a novel mathematical approach for solving joint optimization problem of survivability coupled with minimization of power consumption and spectrum utilization in Elastic Optical Network (EON) under static environment. We have formulated Integer Linear Programming (ILP) model for two different survivability approaches: Shared Path and Multipath. Performance evaluation of these two simulated approaches substantiate the claim on our proposed model resulting in significant amount of savings in energy consumption as well as in spectrum utilization as compared with that obtained from deployment of fragmented approaches. © 2020 IEEE.
