the lack of plug-and-play programmability in conventional toolpath planning approach in subtractive manufacturing, i.e., machining leads to significantly higher manufacturing cost for CNC based prototyping. In computeraided manufacturing (CAM) packages, typical B-rep or NURBS based representations of the CAD interfaces challenge core computations of tool trajectories generation process, such as, surface offsetting to be completely automated. In this work the problem of efficient generation of free-form surface offsets is addressed with a novel volumetric representation. It presents an image filter based offsetting algorithm, which leverages the parallel computing engines on modern graphics processor unit (GPU). the scalable voxel data structure and the proposed hardware-accelerated volumetric offsetting together advance the computation and memory efficiencies well beyond the capability of past studies. Additionally, in order to further accelerate the offset computation the problem of offsetting with a large distance is decomposed into successive offsetting using smaller distances. the accuracy of the offset algorithms is thoroughly analyzed. the developed GPU implementation of the offsetting algorithm is robust in computation, easy to comprehend, and achieves a 50-fold speedup on single graphics card (NVIDIA GTX780Ti) relative to prior best-performing dual socket quad-core CPU implementation.

To capture detailed routing congestion factors in sub-90nm technology nodes, we propose a practical congestion model embedded in 3-D global routing grid graph. Using a concept of pass-through capacity and demand, intra-gcell congestion contributed by fat vias, stacked vias, local nets and related design rules can be measured and optimized. Proposed congestion model is compatible with existing widely-used path search algorithms in global routing. Experimental results validate proposed model, and demonstrate that 42% less design rule violations and 46% shorter full-flow routing runtime, as well as 3% shorter wirelength and 4% less via count in detailed routing results can be achieved using proposed congestion model in global routing stage.

computer-aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools and Ada language compilers are now available for both mainframes and Personal computers (PCs). Although CASE methodologies have existed since the early 1970s and the use of Ada has been required by the Department of Defense since 1985, only recently have CASE and Ada become of serious interest to engineers. this paper identifies the capabilities of PC-based CASE software, the reasons for combining CASE with Ada, and the impact of CASE and Ada on research and teaching in the areas of Industrial and computer Engineering. Based on the authors' first-hand experience, the advantages and/or disadvantages of several CASE tools and Ada environments will be discussed. Other topics addressed include the meanings of related terminology (e.g., object-oriented programming, design methodologies) and the future ramifications of CASE and Ada on the software engineering community.

this paper describes a novel method for retrieving 3D models. Following the principle of compound-eye vision, the proposed method represents a 3D model as a spherical image, and discriminates different 3D models using their corresponding spherical images. Meanwhile, by borrowing the concept of the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorithm, we design a feature extraction algorithm, named Spherical-SIFT, for extracting the salient local features on spherical images. Moreover, the Bag-of-Features approach is employed so as to achieve efficient comparison of different 3D models. the experimental results show the superior performance of our method over pervious methods.

this scheme describes a procedure that uses the motion characteristics of the videos to calculate the embedding tolerance for imperceptible video watermarking in wavelet domain. this procedure exploits the perceptual properties of HVS and motion content of video sequence adaptively calculating the embedding tolerance of watermark in order to improve the imperceptibility of watermarking according to the content of video. the experiment results indicate that this method can effectively reduce the degradation in the video quality.
