One way to reduce potentially serious problems caused by modifications to the original design is to find out designthinking process of the original designer. the knowledge structure of designthinking process is represented, which is composed of design intent, design decision, design rationale and design operation. Semi-formal structure is adopted by the presentation, which means boththe expressiveness and computability of the representation can be improved. Context in the designthinking process is defined, which can reduce complexity of the designthinking process. Independence between contexts that share an intent allows the designer to propose more assumptions about the design without necessarily affecting previous designthinking process. A graphical modeling system is established for capturing and formalizing the designthinking process.

A parallel simplification method based on vertex clustering for out-of-core meshes is presented in this paper. To reduce file I/O, only one linear scan is performed in this method to partition the original model into equal batches. then vertex normal vectors and coefficients of each triangle plane are calculated with some inter-task communications. the portion assigned to each processor is simplified by an improved vertex clustering method. Finally, all reduced data are sent back to the master node and assembled into the simplified mesh. the partition stitching is fulfilled simply by using a global vertex. index. A lot of experiments have demonstrated that the proposed method can handle extremely large data set and speed up the execution time obviously as well as produce approximations with high quality.

the reinforcement design system for lining structures based on OpenGL is developed. Firstly, the development of 3D graphic system for displaying finite element mesh based on OpenGL is introduced. three major dynamic foundation class libraries, namely basic math library, graphic display library and geometric kernel library, are included. the finite element mesh's display algorithm is presented. then, the structural internal force solving algorithm using FEW calculation results is put forward. Finally, the reinforcement approach for lining structures under different working conditions is given. Further, a case study is done. the reinforcement design for bifurcation lining structures at a large scale pumped storage power plant is illustrated. the results prove the efficiency of the reinforcement design system. the finite element mesh displayed in the developed graphic system can be translated, rotated and zoomed in real time by mouse operation. the select and feedback operation is realized, too. the proposed reinforcement algorithm is able to conduct reinforcement design on any designated cross-section without manual intervention. therefore, the highly automated reinforcement design on complex structures is accomplished.

the 3D clothing fitting on a body model is an important research topic in the garment computeraideddesign (GCAD). During the fitting process, the match between the clothing and body models is still a problem for researchers. In this paper, we provide a 3D clothing fitting method based on the feature point match. We firstly use a new cubic-order weighted fitting patch to estimate the geometric properties of each vertex on two mesh models. Feature points are then extracted from two models and a new matching function is constructed. to match them according to curvature and torsion. We interactively select several key feature points from two limited feature point sets to compute the transformation matrix of the clothing model. Finally the second match is performed to achieve the precise match between the clothing and body models. the experimental results show that our 3D clothing fitting method is simple and effective.
