the tremendous amount of context information that can be generated by the Internet of things ( IoT) calls for new solutions able to dig for the relevant information fitting applications' needs. this paper proposes to leverage multiscale-, Quality of Context ( QoC)- and privacy-awareness for the efficient filtering of context information disseminated between the decoupled producers and consumers of the IoT. We first discuss some specific challenges that must be addressed by next generation context managers, including multiscalability, distributed push and pull communications, and the consideration of both QoC and privacy constraints. We then answer these challenges with a new context dissemination framework involving visibility and forwarding filters and illustrate it through the implementation of a collaborative social welfare scenario.

this work presents the design and model implementation of a novel home automation system applying the Internet of things (IoT) technology. It seeks simplified design protocols for developing a robust home automation system to deal withthe problems of complexity, multiple incompatible standards and the resulting expenses in the existing systems. the embedded system features the ubiquitous low-cost 32-bit ESP8266 System-on-chip (SoC) module interfaced to some sensors and actuators for interaction in the home. Flexibility in the remote access, operation and management is achieved through HTML5 based intuitive mobile and web GUI applications. Web Application Messaging Protocol (WAMP) is deployed to ensure that individual applications and systems seamlessly communicate with a relatively high level of security using robust web service security protocol. this system offers a cost-effective and efficient solution, because the costs of a dedicated public IP address and a high-end computer are excluded, which are present mostly in other solutions. In ubiquitous computing, end-user composition allows users to combine multiple single-purpose devices into new, interesting constellations. In PalCom - a ubiquitous middleware - this is achieved without the need to write program code. In this paper we present a solution that in the same way allows users to create Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for such systems without coding. the approach is to focus on presenting functionality in a GUI rather than attaching functionality to manually added components. We see this as an inverted way of working with GUI development. the solution was realized in the form of a graphical editor for a PalCom specific User Interface Description Language. the tool produces platform independent GUI descriptions that can be interpreted on any platform. When compared to another common tool, the presented editor exhibited roughly 10x shorter development times. the learning time for new users was also evaluated with positive outcome, and a scalability evaluation showed that the solution can be used to create professional grade GUIs. the paper considers a distributed Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) design framework for a network of identical dynamically decoupled multi-agent systems. It is known that in this case a stabilizing distributed controller for the network can be obtained by solving a centralized LQR problem whose size depends on the maximum vertex degree of the graph. A systematic method is presented for computingthe performance loss of various distributed control configurations relative to the performance of the centralized controller. A procedure is developed for analyzing the performance loss for general distributed control configurations and state-space directions. It is also shown that by removing a single link we can always define a control configuration for which there is no performance loss, provided the initial state of the aggregate system lies in a particular direction of state-space which is identified. the results are illustrated by an exhaustive analysis of the network consisting of six identical agents.

In this paper, we present PAN, a generic middleware for distributed real-time complex event detection (CED) which is able to analyze multiple distributed data streams. In PAN, CED applications are defined as workflows and are executed by dedicated workers in a distributed way in a P2P network. In consequence, PAN is scalable in terms of the number of data streams and the complexity of the analyses. Evaluations based on an extended version of the ACM DEBS 2013 Grand Challenge scenario show the effectiveness and efficiency of PAN.

Serious disasters have been annually occurred in Japan. Particularly, in the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, the communication infrastructure was seriously damaged over wide areas. Due to such situation, more resilient network infrastructure that does not stop under challenged communication environment is required. In this paper, we propose a disaster information system that can flexibly deal with critical network connectivity. In order to achieve this purpose, we develop a dynamic allocation of server resources in accordance withthe load changes on the system so that it is possible to take full advantage of the servers and network resources in the disaster areas. Also, by introducing mobile cloud computing and DTN protocols, our system can share widely disaster information even if the communication breakdown occurred in the area.

We present a spatial reuse timedivision multiple access (TDMA) protocol. Based on measurement signal broadcasting process, we formulate the slot scheduling problem with a specific objective as an optimization problem that we resolve with a heuristic algorithm. Multi-domain networks are vital to datacenters, home and enterprise networks. the networks require an independent and private control plane. thus, the networks must be resilient and easily scalable the emergence of Software Defined networking (SDN) protocols simplifies the evolution of networks by decoupling the control plane from the data plane. In this paper, a distributed approach in the Multi-domain Controllers architecture (DMC) is introduced. It interconnects heterogeneous networks to form a wide area network (WAN) while preserving the privacy of their domains. It also deals withthe link failure across the domains, making it resilient. the controller manages its own network domain and exchanges minimal information among neighbor controllers.
