We consider distributed lighting control systems consisting of multiple asynchronous feedback controllers that adapt dimming of intelligent light source based on occupancy and illuminance value as measured by co-located occupancy and light sensors respectively. In an initial calibration step, the set-point at the light sensor for every controller is determined. Changes in reflectance due to factors like changes in occupancy and object characteristics modify the set-point, thus adversely affecting the illumination distribution from the lighting system. We propose a method for sensor set-point calibration and tracking and an associated lighting control algorithm. Initial calibration of set-points is achieved distributedly with light sources dimming according to a proposed sequence. We show that the proposed methods improve the illumination performance of the lighting system in event of reflectance changes.

In the past few years, there has been a rapid growth in cloud computing, especially IaaS. It's a trend to use hybrid clouds that incorporate components of private and public clouds in order to achieve lower cost, higher availability and better security. Enterprises could get the benefits from it, including high elasticity, efficiency, flexibility, etc. In the meantime, they are faced with a set of challenges in cloud management. However, previous researches have primarily focused on single cloud platform, with lack of efficient management of hybrid clouds. To bridge this gap, in this paper, we propose a distributed hybrid cloud management platform based on rule engine. We design a succinct rule model to define rules and events. Combined with a distributed and reliable architecture, the demands of batch processing, automatic operation could be met, which make it more flexible and efficient to manage cloud resources from multiple IaaS cloud providers.

Our work tackles this issue withthe use of a novel orchestration framework relying on cloud computing infrastructure. SymbioticSphere follows biological principles such as decentralization, natural selection and symbiosis to design data centers (application services and middleware plotforms). Each application service and middleware platform is designed as a biological entity and implements biological behaviors such as migration, replication death and energy exchange. Services andplatforms cooperatively invoke their behaviors to improve their adaptability. this paper presents a set of behaviors for services and platforms, and describes how services and platforms act and interact with each other. Simulation results show that services and platforms autonomously adapt to dynamic network conditions (e.g., user location, network traffic, and resource availability) by invoking their behaviors suitable for the conditions.

Modern data center networks often adopt multi path topologies for greater bisection bandwidth and better fault tolerance. However, traditional distributed routing algorithms make routing decisions based on only packet destinations, and cannot readily utilize the multi path feature. In this paper, we study distributed multi path routing for data center networks. First, to capture the time varying and non-deterministic nature of data center network traffic, we present a stochastic traffic model based on the log normal distribution. then, we formulate the stochastic load-balanced multi path routing problem, and prove that it is NP hard for typical data center network topologies, including the fat tree, VL2, DCell, and BCube. Next, we propose our distributed multi path routing algorithm, which balances traffic among multiple links by minimizing the probability of each link to face congestion. Finally, we implement the proposed algorithm in the NS2 simulator, and provide simulation results to demonstrate the effectiveness of our design.

Measuring environmental data in city areas has become an important issue for municipalities due to several climate directives. As fixed measuring stations are inflexible, cost-intensive, and limited to monitoring a specific spot, we developed a distributed environmental monitoring network called Environmental Monitoring in Metropolitan Areas (EMMA). this architecture is based on the delay tolerant networking approach and can be integrated into existing Public Transportation Networks (PTNs). Buses or other vehicles can be equipped with sensor nodes that gather data and forward messages. In order to evaluate the basic ideas of this project we performed a series of real-world experiments. Besides analyzing the behavior of 802.11-based Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) between moving vehicles in a controlled environment, we also evaluated the communication performance in urban environments. Moreover, we examined the qualification of a Disruption Tolerant networking (DTN) implementation for spreading measurement results throughout the network. the suitability of EMMA's architecture has been successfully demonstrated by these experiments. With a more significant number of devices integrated and connected in a VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks), there is greater availability and variety of computing resources to run applications. In VANETs, VFC (Vehicular Fog computing) technology establishes vehicles, edge, and cloud as resource-providing infrastructures. However, the use of VFC as infrastructure for pedestrians is still limited, with few works addressing computational offloading in such a scenario. In this context, we implemented a decision algorithm for the offloading process based on resources provided by VFC to guarantee better offloading and latency rates. the results showed that the implemented algorithm obtained efficiency rates above 90% in the tested scenarios and a reduction of up to 40% in the offloading execution time compared to a random approach tested.
