Blockchain is the core technology at the heart of cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and Ether. Due to its characteristics, e.g., immutability, decentrality, and consensus, it is now applied in several fields such as communications, e-health, and supply chains. Nevertheless, its integration to communication networks is facing several challenges related to power consumption, unreliable communication channels, and limited computing capacity of devices. In this paper, we focus on blockchain consensus optimization in edge computing wireless networks. Specifically, we propose a novel consensus mechanism adapted to the heterogeneity and dynamicity, e.g., mobility, of edge computing nodes. We call it adaptive blockchain for edge computing (ABEC). through experiments, we demonstrate the superiority of ABEC over baseline consensus, in terms of block addition/confirmation latency and robustness to the edge nodes' unreliable behaviour. Finally, the impact of several network parameters, e.g., data rate of master ruler/block's owner, and number of transactions per block, is investigated.

We present in this paper an overview of current problems withthe Internet from the architectural view point, and we identify and forecast trends for future developments. Our study includes perspectives from different stakeholders of the Internet as well as from the technological development point of view. We conclude that current and future requirements vary greatly between, and even within, different stakeholders, which implies that a successful future network architecture mustprovide maximum flexibility with a minimal set of "hard-wired" properties. In specific, a revised version of the TCP/IP layered architecture would only suffice to address some of the current issues, but would not provide a long term solution. We then show that an autonomic network- architecture with afew simple architectural building blocks is enough to address a great deal of the requirements today and in thefuture.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have played an important role in collaborative information processing. One of the most fundamental collaborative information processing tasks in WSNs is the distributed estimation for tracking problem. A distributed Kalman filter (DKF) paired with a consensus filter was proposed by Olfati-Saber to address this problem. However, the adjacent nodes need to communicate continuously with each other in the DKF with consensus filter. It was pointed out that transmitting one bit may consume as much power as executing a few thousand instructions. To save the energy of the wireless sensor node, we proposed a DKF with an average algorithm which reduces the sensor computation load and significantly reduces the data exchange between the adjacent nodes compared to the DKF with a consensus filter. A new data exchange protocol is proposed to select the data to exchange between the adjacent nodes. the simulation results show that the proposed DKF with an average consensus filter and DKF with a consensus filter have similar tracking estimation accuracy, whereas the new DKF significantly reduces the level of data transmission.

For full design autonomy and increased availability on the heterogeneous distributed database systems, the proposed algorithm never enforces termination of normal operations of transactions and changes of checkpointing algorithms in local database systems. the global checkpoints generated by the algorithm can be used to reconstruct the previous consistent states of a database efficiently.

Dynamic spectrum access through Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) and exploiting multiple radios on a single node are two different well accepted techniques for enhancing network performance. However, simultaneous usage of boththe techniques, i.e., augmenting dynamic spectrum access with multiple radios, is yet to be investigated in the literature. therefore, in this paper, we investigate simultaneous usage of boththe techniques. In our investigation, we perform rigorous ns-2 simulation. Simulation results reveal a key finding - augmenting spectrum harvesting with multiple radios makes throughput worse, however, can improve delay. Besides, as the simulation results do not reveal micro-level aspects of the improved delay performance, we perform mathematical modeling of the delay to do so. Further, we present numerical results based on the models to demonstrate the micro-level aspects.

Introduction of Internet of things and Machine Type Communication to future mobile networks will cause significant increase in the number of connected devices. At the same time, the connected devices can change traffic patterns as frequent transmission of small volumes of data is expected from sensors and machines. Transmission of such data is very inefficient due to redundancy of signaling information. In this paper, we analyze limits for the number of devices and machines communicating in current 4G mobile network. then, we propose a novel solution, which shifts the current limits of the number of communicating devices towards requirements on 5G mobile networks. the proposed solution exploits cross-layer approach considering buffering of data and clustering of nearby users in order to minimize overhead and improve transmission efficiency. this way, we can increase the number of devices served by a single cell up to 24 times comparing to the state of the art solution.

Social networks such as Facebook and Secondlife are popular. Wireless devices abound from affluent countries to developing countries. Social networks need wide area Internet support. Wireless interfaces offer ad hoc networking capability, without the need for infrastructure support. Web on Demand (WoD) aims to bridge the gap between ad hoc social networks (people in close proximity with shared interests) and ad hoc networking. A key requirement for WoD is transparent connection management. this paper makes three contributions: First, an abstraction called VirtualConnection for transparent connection creation and migration, with socket-like API;second, an implementation on iPAQs (Windows Mobile) as a user level library, and proof of efficacy of using this abstraction for realizing WoD;third, evaluations to establish the performance of this abstraction. In particular, we show the performance degradation due to virtualizing the connection is negligible.
