A ubiquitous computing environment entails numerous embedded devices with enough computational power. Such distributedcomputing resources can cooperate to create applications which support users' everyday lives. Such an environment requires robust middleware that can handle a large quantity of messages, such as event data or sensor data are occurred between devices. However the lack of middleware technologies with such functionalities has been making it difficult to create ubiquitous computing applications that we can depend on in their everyday life. In this paper we propose a novel middleware, named RT-Dragon, which can handle numerous messages with robustness. RT-Dragon can work effectively on systems both real-time and non-realtime runtime because of the mechanism of two level priority-based task processing. In this paper additionally, we evaluate the effectiveness of RT-Dragon on non-RT runtime.

Designing and constructing Real-Time distributed Industrial Vision Systems (RT-DIVS) from scratch is very complicated task RT-DIVS has Conflicting requirements such as reasonable development cost, ease of use, reusable code and high performance. the success key in building such systems is to recognize the need for middleware software. Middleware plays a major role in developing distributed systems efficiently. Real-Time Publish-Subscribe (RTPS) model is one of the latest developments in Real-Time middleware technologies. Network Data Distribution Service (NDDS) is RTPS middleware developed by Real-Time Innovation (RTI). NDDS is widely used in Real-Time distributed and embedded systems for mission critical applications. the research work presented in this paper discusses the employment of NDDS for RT-DIVS and the advantages of NDDS's Quality of Service (QoS) policies in covering the requirements of RT-DIVS. An experimental test set-up is used to verify the NDDS's performance for RT-DIVS. Tests results show that RTPS middleware (and NDDS specifically) is suitable for soft and firm timelines requirements for distributed industrial vision systems.

Compared to today's traditional distributed systems, the mobile computing environment is very different in many respects. Limited battery life and high communication prices are bottlenecks in mobile computing, so a new method is urgently needed to resolve such problems. this paper proposed a new framework to meet the demands of future wireless applications. In the framework we propose Asynchronous Access Pattern (AAP) and Service Configure File (SCF) supporting disconnection (include voluntarily and involuntarily) operations for mobile clients. AAP allow a mobile user voluntarily disconnect itself from the server to save its battery life and avoid high communication prices. And new wireless applications are easy to be developed/deployed based on SCF in our framework.

Due to the opportunities provided by the Internet, more and more people are taking advantage of distance learning courses and during the last few years enormous research efforts have been dedicated to the development of distance learning systems. So far, many e-learning systems are proposed and used practically. However, in these systems the e-learning completion rate is about 30 percents. One of the reasons is the low study desire when the learner studies the learning materials. In this research, we propose an e-learning system, which includes three subsystems: the learning subsystem, learner support subsystem, and teacher support subsystem. the learning subsystem improves the learner study desire. the learner support subsystem supports the learner during the study, and the teacher support subsystem support the teacher to get the learner study state. In the future work, we would like to add other functions to improve more the system performance.

Synchronizations adopting quorum consensus are the well-known solutions of some fundamental issues in the study of distributed mutual exclusion and replica control problems. Mechanisms to reconfigure quorum structure in open distributed environments are necessary since the membership changes of such systems (i.e., the joining and leaving members) may decrease quorum availability. Many algorithms have been proposed to this problem, however they mostly change the quorum system totally thus any operation cannot be performed while system in the reconfiguration process. this paper presents a simple quorum reconfiguration algorithm in open distributedcomputing systems that can evolve their behavior based on membership changes in the environment. the algorithm is easy to use since it simply implements the two quorum operations called join-replace and join-cross. the join-replace operation is used when a set of nodes have leaved from the system while some others are joining, and the join-cross is defined and used if there is only a set of joining nodes enter the system. the great advantages of the algorithm are the ability to complete any operation before a new quorum structure is fully constructed during reconfiguration thus system does not enter the halt state with a wait-avoidance characteristic, and it directly adopts quorum consensus in the static environments without any change to the protocol. Moreover, an extra mapping procedure is unnecessary to be given since the algorithm only works in the logical space.

this paper presents an efficient technique for placement and routing of sensors/actuators and processing units in a grid network. the driver application that we present is a medical jacket which requires an extremely high level of robustness and fault tolerance. the power consumption of such jacket is another key technological constraint. Our proposed interconnection network is a mesh of wires. A jacket made of fabric and wires would be susceptible to accidental damage via tears. By modeling the tears, we evaluate the probability of having failures on every segment of wires in our mesh interconnection network. then we study two problems of placement and routing in the sensor networks such that the fault tolerance is maximized while the power consumption is minimized. We develop efficient integer linear programming (ILP) formulations to address these problems and perform both placement and routing simultaneously. this ensures that the solution is a lower bound for both problems. We evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed techniques on a variety of benchmarks.
