How to build e-commerce applications based on the RosettaNet over the grid infrastructure is what we are interested in this paper. In this paper, we propose an adaptive and dynamic scheduling method, called most fit task first (MFTF), for a class of computational grids, which are characterized by heterogeneous computing nodes and dynamic task arrivals. Some existing static scheduling methods assume that tasks arrive statically and may not perform well in the case of dynamic task arrivals. Our method can get stable task execution times whether tasks arrive statically or dynamically. We compare the task execution time with other methods to show the performance of the scheduling method.

the contribution of this paper is to present a novel and well-experimented middleware service platform and its architecture for service gateway based distributed systems. this is called the MidGate platform. the research problem that the MidGate platform addresses is how to facilitate the development of interoperable applications into heterogeneous and distributed service gateway based environments. the paper is based on the constructive method of analyzing the related research results, technologies, and trial systems. the MidGate platform is a middleware platform that provides communication middleware, a set of generic service elements, and a dynamically reconfigurable service framework to be applied in the development and deployment of distributed applications. the MidGate architecture is defined on the basis of the requirements of real applications, and it is evaluated in a series of laboratory prototypes reviewed in the paper.

In this paper, we propose CacheWire to instill collaboration among caches in a distributed environment for query retrieval. CacheWire is based on the observation of human behavior mainly reflecting intelligence, memory residue and communication corresponding to the processor, cache and network messaging units in a distributed network. We propose 2 approaches, query-recall: where nodes cache the inbound queries and help guide future queries to their answers, and cache-salvage: where cached content is salvaged by other nodes. In our study, we evaluated the 2 approaches, in a general key search system over a distributed network. We showed that when the nodes are aware of the activities in their surrounding, the system can achieve a higher cost saving ratio.

For shared memory systems with time and resource constraints such as embedded real-time systems, mutual exclusion mechanism that is both fair and space-efficient can be very useful. In this paper, we present a bounded-bypass algorithm using only two shared variables, regardless of the number of contending processes, by operation fetch&store as well as atomic read/write. To achieve the same level of fairness, we show that, by the same set of operations, two shared variables are necessary, and therefore our algorithm is space-optimal.

In ubiquitous computing environment, different kinds of system components including hardware elements, software components and network connections are required to cooperate with each other to provide services that fulfil user requirements. this paper proposes an agent-based middleware for ubiquitous environment that consists of computers and home electric appliances. the middleware, called AMUSE, can take QoS (quality of service) in ubiquitous environment into consideration by coping with not only user context but also resource context, using agent-based computing technology. In this paper, we describe concept, design and initial implementation of AMUSE. Simulation results of experimental ubiquitous service using AMUSE has been shown to prove the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.
