Blockchain systems (more precisely distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs)) represent a different digital ecosystem compared with traditional computer systems. One major difference are the performance and scalability factors which will be discussed and analytically investigated in this paper. In doing so, we provide guidance for defining a research agenda focusing on the investigation of the crucial role of scalability for blockchain systems. System performance -- measured in terms of (1) consensus response time (blockchain network latency or time to convergence/agreement); (2) number of transactions per second or throughput, and (3) computing (and power) resources consumed -- can be understood by considering the design dimensions of a blockchain system, namely: (i) the type of blockchain system needed from a requirements perspective which in turn determines; (ii) the complexity of the consensus protocol used; (iii) the topography of the traffic flow on the network; (iv) the performance and complexity of the domain-specific language that implements smart contracts; and (v) by the anticipated growth in size and complexity of the distributed ledger itself.

Job scheduling in the Expert Cloud based on genetic algorithms

Purpose - Expert Cloud as a new class of Cloud computing systems enables its users to request the skill, knowledge and expertise of people by employing internet infrastructures and Cloud computing concepts without any information of their location. Job scheduling is one of the most important issue in Expert Cloud and impacts on its efficiency and customer satisfaction. the purpose of this paper is to propose an applicable method based on genetic algorithm for job scheduling in Expert Cloud. Design/methodology/approach - Because of the nature of the scheduling issue as a NP-Hard problem and the success of genetic algorithm in optimization and NP-Hard problems, the authors used a genetic algorithm to schedule the jobs on human resources in Expert Cloud. In this method, chromosome or candidate solutions are represented by a vector;fitness function is calculated based on response time;one point crossover and swap mutation are also used. Findings - the results indicate that the proposed method can schedule the received jobs in appropriate time with high accuracy in comparison to common methods (First Come First Served, Shortest Process Next and Highest Response Ratio Next). Also the proposed method has better performance in term of total execution time, service + wait time, failure rate and Human Resource utilization rate in comparison to common methods. Originality/value - In this paper the job scheduling issue in Expert Cloud is pointed out and the approach to resolve the problem is applied into a practical example.

the concepts of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) are crucial for fostering inclusive societies and promoting equal opportunities for all individuals, contributing to social cohesion, economic development, and overall well-being. Social media platforms have offered several benefits for individuals, including information and knowledge sharing, and enhanced connectivity and networking opportunities. On the other hand, social media has enabled several forms of GESI violations, including hate speech, targeted harassment, and discriminatory content. One important solution to face these violations is the challenging behavior of those who violate GESI concepts on social media platforms. While many users may intend to confront and combat such violations, the actual behavior may not always align with these intentions. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate users' challenging intentions and behavior of GESI violations on social media platforms, while focusing on the cultural differences among the UK and Arab. We also investigated the moderating impact of social inclusion on the relationship between intention and behavior regarding challenging violations of GESI. To meet this goal, we deployed a survey among two samples of UK (325) and Arab (312) participants. Our results show that there are intention-behavior disparities in challenging GESI violations on social media platforms for both samples. the results also confirmed the moderating impact of social inclusion on the relationship between intention and behaviors regarding challenging violations of GESI among UK participants and rejected it among Arab participants.

this article presents a way of organizing a stable coalition that consists of the Internet of things interacting objects, taking into account their trust and reputation. the concept of convergence and interpenetrating services, networks, computing, and communications, which forming the Internet of things environment, requires solving a whole range of problems. One of the main issues is increasing the efficiency of use-limited resources (time, energy, radio frequency spectrum) by the Internet of things devices. Besides, there is a lack of guaranteeing trustworthy, user/data security and resistance against adversaries there. In this regard, trustworthiness evaluation and a coherent recommendation of estimating friend nodes' reliability will allow achieving network security and isolating malicious nodes' environment. A proposed method for measuring trust and reputation in the Internet of things defines the rules for transforming subjective trust assessments into the overall evaluation of the object interaction reputation. Simulation modeling with a real dataset confirms the effectiveness of the developed method and the possibility of reducing trust estimation uncertainty.

Spiking neural P systems (SN P systems, for short) are a class of distributed parallel computing devices inspired from the way neurons communicate by means of spikes. In this work, a discrete structure representation of SN P systems with extended rules and without delay is proposed. Specifically, matrices are used to represent SN P systems. In order to represent the computations of SN P systems by matrices, configuration vectors are defined to monitor the number of spikes in each neuron at any given configuration;transition net gain vectors are also introduced to quantify the total amount of spikes consumed and produced after the chosen rules are applied. Nondeterminism of the systems is assured by a set of spiking transition vectors that could be used at any given time during the computation. With such matrix representation, it is quite convenient to determine the next configuration from a given configuration, since it involves only multiplication and addition of matrices after deciding the spiking transition vector. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

Due to reduced size and increase in component density, controlling heat dissipation is becoming a big challenge for chip designers and manufacturers and thus researchers, scientists, and engineers throughout the world are looking for newer technologies for remedy. One such technology that is providing a solution to the above-stated problem is Reversible Logic Technology (RL T). RLT is a new paradigm and finding its application in Quantum computing, Nano-Electronics, Cryptography, Low-Power Low-Dissipation circuit designs. In this paper based on RLT, 16×16 Harsh Shiva Gate 1 (HSG1) is proposed. HSG1 gate can be programmed for performing 16, 1024, and 16384 logical output operations using 4, 10, and 14 programmable input pins respectively on two operand A and B in a single clock cycle. HSG1 gate has 2 Output Modes - Simultaneous and Cascade Mode. In Simultaneous Mode, a total of 14 programmable and 2 operand input pins are available for performing 65536 logical output operations at the output pins from x0 to x15. While in Cascade Mode, based on 4 selection input pins, X, Y, N, and P, 16 logical output operations are performed at the output pin L OUT . the main advantage of cascade mode is using L OUT as the input to the control unit of ALU when HSG 1 gate is used as a logical unit in designing of ALU. It has been also proved that the proposed HSG1 gate is better than its counterpart for implementing logical unit in terms of garbage output, the number of gates, and logical operations to be performed. All the results have been verified using VHDL simulation.

the pervasive diffusion of network attached devices has given rise to technologies like Internet-of-things (IoT) which, in turn, enabled the development of smart applications improving existing services or offering innovative ones to geographically distributed territories (e.g. smart cities). Extending similar services to regions with limited connectivity is the main challenge of smart shires. In this context, the concept of data mule has been introduced which constitutes the basis of the InDaMul framework. this framework addresses the challenge of communication in areas with sparse connection coverage leveraging distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT). DLT is employed to incentivize owners of mobile devices to act as data mules, facilitating data transmission. this paper proposes InDaMulC2C an extension to the InDaMul framework, repurposing its infrastructure to support Client-To-Client (C2C) communications. InDaMulC2C supports direct C2C communications by allowing: (i) local offline interactions, (ii) deferral of the execution of on-chain operations subject to connection availability.

Advancement in IoT research encouraged the generation of ubiquitous computing devices and changed their way of utilization. the high spawning of data through these computing devices and its computation demands the evolvement of a new paradigm. Instead of using a centralized cloud-based system, a new distributed computing environment has been emerged for feature computational and storage capabilities at the periphery of the network called fog computing. the main idea behind fog computing is to utilize the processing and storage resources of fog nodes by offloading the computation-intensive IoT tasks. In the fog-enabled Cloud/IoT architecture, resource-constraint IoT devices offload their resource-hungry tasks to nearby deployed fog nodes to reduce the processing time and fast execution. Fog enabled processing guarantees fast response time and better energy management. therefore, we are proposing a optimal offloading decision strategy and resource allocation scheme in fog atmosphere by minimizing the total energy consumption of IoT users concerning the latency of communication and computation. To optimally offload the tasks to fog node an optimization problem is designed and an improved version of branch-and-bound tree is proposed for its evaluation. Some of the metrics we consider for performance evaluation are average task latency, average energy consumption per task and average remaining energy per IoT node. Simulation results show that using proposed offloading decision strategy, network performance improve significantly.

Recently Social networking Service (SNS) is used extensively due to proliferation of the Internet and cheaper, compact, easy to use computing devices. Texting, especially via Twitter, is very popular among people of all ages all over the world, and enormous text data is generated regularly which contains various types of information, rumors, sentimental expressions etc. the variety of topics related to the contents of the social media data are prone to changes with the passing of time and sometimes fade out completely after a certain time. Such time varying topics may include beneficial information that could be used for various decision making by general public as well as governmental organization. Especially for the recent pandemic of COVID-19, extraction and visualization of the changing needs of people might help them making some better countermeasures. In this study, COVID-19 related tweets have been collected and analyzed in units of time (hour, day and month) by means of various clustering models to visualize the dynamic changes of topics with time. It is found that Sentence-Bert is the most effective tool among the techniques used here though it is not yet enough for clear understanding of the topics semantically.

In the past decade, mining the opinions for information extraction and retrieval has been one of the major fields of study. Sentiment Analysis (SA) can be explained as the process of identifying the polarity of a given content for gaining an insight into the hidden information stored in a text or a piece of document. Today, various social networking sites serve as a platform for expression. Twitter, is one such microblogging application that is tremendously used by various users for expressing the true intent about a particular entity in the form of tweets. the ultimate goal of analyzing the sentiments is to mine the useful content from these opinion sources. the Natural Language Processing (NLP) technique has been used for the initial processing of tweets. there are broadly two methods available for further analyzing the opinionated data: Lexicon Based Approach (LBA) and Machine Learning Approach (MLA) based on supervised learning. the Supervised method has a disadvantage of its dependency on the quality and amount of training data. the LBA technique uses an enhanced dictionary i.e. Hindi SentiWordNet as a resource and Hybrid Based Approach (HBA) which combines the LBA and MLA for classifying movie tweets as either positive or negative. the English language has majorly dominated in this area of research. We, on the other hand, have gathered movie tweets in the Hindi language for Sentiment Analysis of Twitter data and led a comparative evaluation for both the techniques: LBA and HBA.
