Blockchain systems (more precisely distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs)) represent a different digital ecosystem compared with traditional computer systems. One major difference are the performance and scalability factors which will be discussed and analytically investigated in this paper. In doing so, we provide guidance for defining a research agenda focusing on the investigation of the crucial role of scalability for blockchain systems. System performance -- measured in terms of (1) consensus response time (blockchain network latency or time to convergence/agreement); (2) number of transactions per second or throughput, and (3) computing (and power) resources consumed -- can be understood by considering the design dimensions of a blockchain system, namely: (i) the type of blockchain system needed from a requirements perspective which in turn determines; (ii) the complexity of the consensus protocol used; (iii) the topography of the traffic flow on the network; (iv) the performance and complexity of the domain-specific language that implements smart contracts; and (v) by the anticipated growth in size and complexity of the distributed ledger itself.

Fog computing provides a paradigm for executing Internet of things services. Enabling the coordinated cooperation among computational, storage, and networking resources in the fog can be challenging due to the volatility of resources. For this reason, we design an architecture and implement a representative framework called FogFrame that defines the necessary communication mechanisms for instantiating and maintaining service execution in the fog. To evaluate our approach, we conduct a series of experiments that show how service placement, deployment, and execution is performed by the framework, and how the framework operates at runtime, i.e., adapts to changes in the available resources, balances the workload and recovers from resource failures and overloads.

this article presents a way of organizing a stable coalition that consists of the Internet of things interacting objects, taking into account their trust and reputation. the concept of convergence and interpenetrating services, networks, computing, and communications, which forming the Internet of things environment, requires solving a whole range of problems. One of the main issues is increasing the efficiency of use-limited resources (time, energy, radio frequency spectrum) by the Internet of things devices. Besides, there is a lack of guaranteeing trustworthy, user/data security and resistance against adversaries there. In this regard, trustworthiness evaluation and a coherent recommendation of estimating friend nodes' reliability will allow achieving network security and isolating malicious nodes' environment. A proposed method for measuring trust and reputation in the Internet of things defines the rules for transforming subjective trust assessments into the overall evaluation of the object interaction reputation. Simulation modeling with a real dataset confirms the effectiveness of the developed method and the possibility of reducing trust estimation uncertainty.

this paper presents the design and implementation of a framework that allows for the automated discovery of IoT devices. We discuss how to properly combine a set of discovery mechanisms used in the framework of the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) in order to estabilish relations between CoAP-enabled devices. Such relations represent links that are 'tracked' by an ad-hoc implemented CoAP Crawler, which inspects the served resource state and chooses the link to follow from there, working as a Hypermedia-driven client. the Crawler is itself a Web-enabled device that dynamically draws an overlay network topology in which resources are represented as nodes and inter-device relationships as edges between pairs of nodes. this approach allows for the creation of a completely distributed, non-hierarchical, Peer-to-Peer overlay network. A Proof-Of-Concept implementation of the framework is described and preliminary performance evaluation results, in terms of response time and throughput with increasing network size conditions, are discussed.

Nowadays, the Internet of things (IoT) has developed rapidly and changed people's life into a more convenient style. However, a huge number of vulnerable IoT devices are exploited to constitute botnet by many attackers, which forms a serious problem for network security. To solve it, we propose a novel detection and mitigation mechanism. In our method, we use Software Defined networking (SDN), a promising network architecture, for dropping malicious traffic in propagation path to avoid avalanche effect on the victim server in the traditional network. For the existing works, a lot of time and resources are wasted in using the controller of SDN to detect attacks. Unlike them, we take the features of IoT traffic into consideration and utilize the edge computing to provide local services by putting detection and mitigation method into the OpenFlow (OF) switches of IoT. this achieves a distributed anomaly detection to detect and respond IoT-based DDoS attacks in real time, and avoids the overload of the controller. Machine learning is used in the OF switches with around 99% precision. Experimental results demonstrate that our method is capable to mitigate IoT-based DDoS attacks in a short time.

Fog-assisted cloud computing advances have paved the way for new solutions in online gaming, by integrating all rendering resources directly into the edges of the cloud. However, despite the numerous benefits, these systems still remain prone to network delays, ergo, the discovery of an optimal rendering service placement in the fog layer, that effectively reduces capital deployment cost for the game providers and access latency cost for the game clients, is a challenging issue. In fact, it falls into the category of the well-known (NP-hard) facility location problems. As such, conventional centralized approaches, that require global network knowledge, in most cases are deemed unscalable and cost-prohibitive, thus, distributed solutions must be further explored. the approach followed here, introduces a Rendering Service Allocation Policy (RSAP) to autonomously allocate services towards an optimal placement, based strictly on local information available to the fog renderers regarding their aggregate rendering demands, yielding reduced access latency and deployment costs, whilst meeting their stringent capacity bounds. Simulation results showcase the efficiency of RSAP and verify its elastic behavior under different deployment scenarios.

Recently Social networking Service (SNS) is used extensively due to proliferation of the Internet and cheaper, compact, easy to use computing devices. Texting, especially via Twitter, is very popular among people of all ages all over the world, and enormous text data is generated regularly which contains various types of information, rumors, sentimental expressions etc. the variety of topics related to the contents of the social media data are prone to changes with the passing of time and sometimes fade out completely after a certain time. Such time varying topics may include beneficial information that could be used for various decision making by general public as well as governmental organization. Especially for the recent pandemic of COVID-19, extraction and visualization of the changing needs of people might help them making some better countermeasures. In this study, COVID-19 related tweets have been collected and analyzed in units of time (hour, day and month) by means of various clustering models to visualize the dynamic changes of topics with time. It is found that Sentence-Bert is the most effective tool among the techniques used here though it is not yet enough for clear understanding of the topics semantically.

Processor arrays have been used, either as the main computation engine or as special-purpose adjuncts, for a variety of applications requiring very high performance. As the size of such an array increases, the possibility of processor malfunctions, leading to loss of computational capabilities, can no longer be ignored. While many switching architectures and reconfiguration algorithms have been proposed for building processor arrays, modeling of their reliability has been inadequately addressed. In this paper, I study differences between 2D processor arrays with centralized and distributed switching, pointing to advantages of the latter in terms of reliability, regularity, modularity, and VLSI realizability. As important side results, I formulate the notions of reliability inversion (a less reliable system prevailing over a more reliable one due to modeling uncertainties) and modelability (the property of a system that makes it possible to derive tight reliability bounds, thus making reliability inversion less likely).
