Signal processing in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has a huge range of applications. distributed Kalman Filter (DKF) is one of the most fundamental distributed estimation algorithms for scalable wireless sensor fusion. DKF finds applications in object tracking, environmental monitoring, surveillance, and many other applications. All algorithms proposed in the literature are based on static network. In reality, the network topology is changing. the topology change is often caused by node failure, which is due to energy depletion. In this work a DKF is proposed for such network. the simulation and the experimental results validate our proposed DKF. the experimental results show that each sensor node can run DKF with up to six neighbors.

End users execute today on their smart phones different kinds of mobile applications like calendar apps or high-end mobile games, differing in local resource usage. Utilizing local resources of a smart phone heavily, like playing high-end mobile games, drains its limited energy resource in few hours. To prevent the limited energy resource from a quick exhaustion, smart phones benefit from executing resource-intensive application parts on a remote server in the cloud (code offloading). During the remote execution on the remote server, a smart phone waits in idle mode until it receives a result. However, code offloading introduces computation and communication overhead, which decreases the energy efficiency and induces monetary cost. For instance, sending or receiving execution state information to or from a remote server consumes energy. Moreover, executing code on a remote server instance in a commercial cloud causes monetary cost. To keep consumed energy and monetary cost low, we present in this paper the concept of remote-side caching for code offloading, which increases the efficiency of code offloading. the remote-side cache serves as a collective storage of results for already executed application parts on remote servers, avoiding the repeated execution of previously run application parts. the smart phone queries the remote-side cache for corresponding results of resource-intensive application parts. In case of a cache hit, the smart phone gets immediately a result and continues the application execution. Otherwise, it migrates the application part and waits for a result of the remote execution. We show in our evaluation that the use of a remote-side cache decreases energy consumption and monetary cost for mobile applications by up to 97% and 99%, respectively.

Fog computing provides a paradigm for executing Internet of things services. Enabling the coordinated cooperation among computational, storage, and networking resources in the fog can be challenging due to the volatility of resources. For this reason, we design an architecture and implement a representative framework called FogFrame that defines the necessary communication mechanisms for instantiating and maintaining service execution in the fog. To evaluate our approach, we conduct a series of experiments that show how service placement, deployment, and execution is performed by the framework, and how the framework operates at runtime, i.e., adapts to changes in the available resources, balances the workload and recovers from resource failures and overloads.

Process calculi are a powerful mechanism to formally model distributed systems, and are especially useful for assessing trust, security, and privacy issues in mobile and ubiquitous computing and networking. However, they often only support a single modelling approach and semantics, whereas distributed systems and networks often are a conglomeration of different technologies and functionalities. In this paper we propose a novel approach to model these systems and make them amenable to formal analysis. We enhance the ambient calculus with "wormholes" as a convenient way for ambients to travel between "worlds" representing the different technologies and functionalities by means of different semantic layers. Our approach enables easy and natural modelling and analysis of multi-layer systems for ubiquitous computing and networking.

With the recent advent of Internet of Humans (IoH), wireless body-to-body networks (WBBNs) are emerging as the fundamental part of this new paradigm. In particular with reference to newly emerging applications, the research trends on data routing and dissemination strategies have gained a great interest in WBBN. In this paper, we present the performance evaluation of the clustered and distributed data dissemination approaches in tactical WBBN. We used a realistic radio-link and bio-mechanical mobility model for on-body motions, and group mobility model for WBBN to effectively realize rescue and emergency management application scenario. In this regard, we are using the newly proposed IEEE 802.15.6 standard targeted for body area networks. Extensive (IEEE 802.15.6 standard compliance) network level, packet oriented simulations are conducted in WSNet simulator. During the simulations, various payloads, frequencies (narrow-band) and modulation techniques are exploited. We based our performance evaluation on relevant metrics according to the operational requirements for tactical networks such as packet reception ratio, latency, energy consumption and hop count. the results showed a trade-offs between clustered-based and distributed-based dissemination approaches. With regards to packet delay, distributed approach provided the best performance. However, in terms of average packet reception ratio (PRR), clustered-based approach achieves up to 97% reception and remained the best strategy. Whereas, almost double energy is consumed while using clustered approach, though this is due to multi-standard coordinator which is considered as more powerful device. Finally, the results of hop count are almost comparable in both schemes.

the continuous decentralisation and distribution of software, hardware, and human resources depends on a number of fundamental factors including the ability to provide desired Quality of Service (QoS) on resources assembled dynamically from enterprises, service providers and customer systems. Despite recent developments there are still many challenges in efficient information delivery and management services for distributed architectures. In this work we are particularly interested with the use of intelligent decision making mechanisms for the management of distributed architectures. Consider mobile targets moving in a plane and their movements being monitored by a network such as a field of sensors. We develop distributed algorithms for in-network tracking and range queries for aggregated data (for example returning the number of targets within any user given region). Our scheme stores the target detection information locally in the network, and answers a query by examining the perimeter of the given range. the cost of updating data about mobile targets is proportional to the target displacement. the key insight is to maintain in the sensor network a function with respect to the target detection data on the graph edges that is a differential one-form such that the integral of this one-form along any closed curve C gives the integral within the region bounded by C. the differential one-form has great flexibility making it appropriate for tracking mobile targets. the basic range query can be used to find a nearby target or any given identifiable target with cost O(d) where d is the distance to the target in question. Dynamic insertion, deletion, coverage holes and mobility of sensor nodes can be handled with only local operations, making the scheme suitable for a highly dynamic network. It is extremely robust and capable of tolerating errors in sensing and target localization. Due to limited space, we only elaborate the advantages of differential forms in tracking of mobile targets. the same routine can be applied for organizing many other types of informations, for example streaming scalar sensor data (such as temperature data field), to support efficient range queries. We demonstrate through analysis and simulations that this scheme compares favorably with existing schemes that use location services for answering aggregated range queries of target detection data.

Previous work on the use of the Teleo-Reactive technique in high level software development has shown it to be a viable approach for autonomic systems. A T-R program can recover from unexpected events without knowing the underlying source or cause of the problem and thus reduces the maintenance costs of software projects where unexpected events are a likely and frequent occurrence. Previous work has also highlighted the difficult nature of designing and structuring the high level logic in a T-R program and so this work aims to reduce the problem by providing a software engineering strategy that will both drive the program development and reduce the occurrence of logic problems. © 2010 IEEE.

In 3GPP LTE-Advanced standard forum, Mobile Relay Node (MRN) occupies an important place. It is well known that cell-edge users suffer from bad Signal Level strength. To improve the signal quality and network coverage at the cell-edge it is proposed to use Mobile Relay Node. For the moment, MRN communicates to the UE devices in the vehicle. In this paper, we propose to implement MRN on the top of public transportation having known path and low speed to serve data hungry users outside the vehicles.

Many network systems with distributed structure today such as streaming media systems and resource-sharing systems can be modeled as the distributed network service system with multiple service nodes. Admission control technology is an essential way to enhance such systems. Model-based optimization approach as Markov decision process (MDP) is a good way to be applied to analyze and compute the optimal admission control policy that maximizes performance of system. However, due to the "curse of dimensionality", computing such optimal admission control policy for practical distributed systems is a rather difficult task. therefore, we describe the admission control process of the distributed network service system as a switching partially observable Markov decision process (SPOMDP) with two-level structure. the upper level decides whether to switch the operation mode of system, and the lower level decides to admit or block new service requests. According to the partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP) model, a distributed admission control algorithm is presented which the service nodes in system make decisions without the knowledge of other service nodes. the randomized policy is applied to optimize system performance, and the policy-gradient iteration algorithm is used to compute the optimal admission control policy. then, an operation mode switching mechanism is presented to detect the change of system and determine the switch epoch of operation mode. through the numerical experiments, we demonstrate the efficiency of the presented approach.
