In this paper, the attention is focused on the design of a new multi-layered architecture for vehicular environment. System will be able to gather information from vehicular devices. this will allow system to faster respond at emergency situation such as traffic jams or collisions. distributed entities work at different layers exploiting cloud and fog computing in order to better distribute tasks along the infrastructure. Lower layer is composed of On-Board Units (OBUs) and RoadSide Units (RSUs) that exploits Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) protocols for inner VANET communications. At the Edge layer we propose fog computing nodes that gather data from RSUs for local processing and after an aggregation step they send data to an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) management system. the proposed architecture has the main goal to better respond to the network and traffic dynamics by improving performances of the ITS system.

Cloud virtualization and multi-tenant networking provide Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers a new and innovative way to offer on-demand services to their customers, such as easy provisioning of new applications and better resource efficiency and scalability. However, existing data-intensive intelligent applications require more powerful processors, higher bandwidth and lower-latency networking service. In order to boost the performance of computing and networking services, as well as reduce the overhead of software virtualization, we propose a new data center network design based on OpenStack. Specifically, we map the OpenStack networking services to the hardware switch and utilize hardware-accelerated L2 switch and L3 routing to solve the software limitations, as well as achieve software-like scalability and flexibility. We design our prototype system via the Arista Software-Defined-networking (SDN) switch and provide an automatic script which abstracts the service layer that decouples OpenStack from the physical network infrastructure, thereby providing vendor-independence. We have evaluated the performance improvement in terms of bandwidth, delay, and system resource utilization using various tools and under various Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints. Our solution demonstrates improved cloud scaling and network efficiency via only one touch point to control all vendors' devices in the data center.

Personal data are often collected and processed in a decentralized fashion, within different contexts. For instance, withthe emergence of distributed applications, several providers are used to correlate their records, to provide personalized services to their clients. As such, to protect users' privacy, different pseudonyms are generally used for different contexts. these pseudonyms have to be unlinkable to prevent identifying records to be associated to the same user. Although unlinkable, these pseudonyms have to be processed and exchanged according to their owners' consent and in a privacy-preserving fashion. In this paper, we propose BDUA, a new Blockchain-based Data Usage Auditing system, that ensures a controlled yet privacy preserving exchange of distributed data, such that a set of authorized auditing entities are able to conduct an accurate auditing relying on registered blockchains' transactions.

Cloud computing enables users (clients) to outsource large volume of their data to cloud servers. Secure distributed cloud storage schemes ensure that multiple servers store these data in a reliable and untampered fashion. We propose an idea to construct such a scheme for static data by encoding data blocks (using error-correcting codes) and then attaching authentication information (tags) to these encoded blocks. We identify some challenges while extending this idea to accommodate append-only data. then, we propose our secure distributed cloud storage scheme for append-only data that addresses the challenges efficiently. the main advantage of our scheme is that it enables the servers to update the parity blocks themselves. Moreover, the client need not download any data (or parity) block to update the tags of the modified parity blocks residing on the servers. Finally, we analyze the security and performance of our scheme.

Matrix multiplication is an important kernel task in many machine learning algorithms. As the size of input datasets increases, multiple workloads are analyzed in large-scale distributed cloud computing environments. therefore, understanding the characteristics of a distributed matrix multiplication task is essential for running machine learning jobs in the cloud. Herein, we propose Matrix multiplication Performance Estimator for Cloud computing, a method to predict the latency of matrix multiplication of various sizes and shapes in a distributed cloud computing environment. We first characterize the overhead of a distributed matrix multiplication task and propose features to model the latency of a task with different input types. Using the proposed features, a latency prediction model is developed by applying a data mining algorithm and a parameter optimization step iteratively. In experiments with 236 distinct types of matrix multiplications on diverse cloud instances running Apache Spark, we confirm that the proposed method can model the latency of various types of matrix multiplication tasks effectively and capture the non-linear interactions among the proposed features. A comparison withthe state-of-the-art cloud computing performance predictor, Ernest, reveals that the proposed method provides 63% lower Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) for a distributed matrix multiplication latency prediction task and confirms the uniqueness of the distributed matrix multiplication workload.

Building a secure electronic voting system that offers the fairness and privacy of current voting schemes, while providing the transparency and flexibility offered by electronic systems has been a challenge for a long time. In this work-in-progress paper, we evaluate an application of blockchain as a service to implement distributed electronic voting systems. the paper proposes a novel electronic voting system based on blockchain that addresses some of the limitations in existing systems and evaluates some of the popular blockchain frameworks for the purpose of constructing a blockchain-based e-voting system. In particular, we evaluate the potential of distributed ledger technologies through the description of a case study; namely, the process of an election, and the implementation of a blockchain-based application, which improves the security and decreases the cost of hosting a nationwide election.

Container orchestration systems, such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes and Mesos, provide automated support for deployment and management of distributed applications as sets of containers. While these systems were initially designed for running load-balanced stateless services, they have also been used for running database clusters because of improved resilience attributes such as fast auto-recovery of failed database nodes, and location transparency at the level of TCP/IP connections between database instances. In this paper we evaluate the performance overhead of Docker Swarm and Kubernetes for deploying and managing NoSQL database clusters, with MongoDB as database case study. As the baseline for comparison, we use an OpenStack IaaS cloud that also allows attaining these improved resilience attributes although in a less automated manner.

We present the design, implementation and evaluation of a training programme for Computer Science teachers on the educational use of the Python programming language inside and outside school. the programme used educational resources centered on meaningful, self-contained programming projects. the training programme followed a blended-learning approach thus offering an opportunity to many computer science teachers make their first steps towards the educational use of the Python language within a very promising learner-centered pedagogical framework. Using initially an online course made it possible to reach a much greater number of Computer Science teachers, especially those living in remote areas and through them, have a considerable impact on students through the subsequent establishment of local code clubs. the synchronous interaction withthe course facilitators during the monthly sessions, the forming of local groups and the systematic communication through the learning platform used, made it possible to alleviate many of the disadvantages usually linked with online courses as it is evident from the evaluation results.
