Reliable deployment of services is especially challenging in virtualized infrastructures, where the deep tech-nological stack and the multitude of components necessitate automatic anomaly detection and remediation mechanisms. Traditional monitoring solutions observe the system and generate alarms when the collected metrics exceed predefined thresholds. the fixed thresholds rely on expert knowledge and can lead to numerous false alarms, while abnormal behavior that spans over multiple metrics, components, or system layers, may not be detected. We propose to use an unsupervised online clustering algorithm to create a model of the normal behavior of each monitored component with minimal human interaction and no impact on the monitored system. When an anomaly is detected, a human administrator or automatic remediation system can subsequently revert the component into a normal state. An experimental evaluation resulted in a high accuracy of our approach, indicating that it is suitable for anomaly detection in productive systems.

Edge Cloud computing is emerging as an efficient paradigm that aims at providing responsive and real-time services. By delivering the cloud services to the edges of network in the proximity to the users, the latency of transmission time can be reduced and the heavy burden on the backhaul link are avoided. However, how a third party service provider could deploy the cloud services on a specific edge nodes provided by Infrastructure Provider, how to manage cloud services resources as well as to find the existed cloud services over the network are significant issues in Edge Cloud computing. In this paper, we introduce an autonomic edge cloud platform with CCN-based cloud service routing protocol (C-SRP) to provide a self-control mechanism for cloud services in Edge Cloud computing. By integrating with tables defined in Content Centric networking (CCN), C-SRP has capability of self-deploying cloud services on edge nodes, and self-discovering the cloud services over the network. We implement the autonomic edge cloud platform as well as C-SRP and measure the performance by various cloud services. the results show that our C-SRP is able to reduce the average service delay up to 50% compared with legacy cloud. In addition, it also performs service routing better than the centralized controller protocol in Edge Cloud computing environment.

Maintaining data provenance in cloud in a tamper-resistant manner that cannot be breached by malicious parties is a necessity from the current security standpoint. Blockchain technology has emerged as a secure solution to store and share information by offering an immutable distributed ledger service. Its effectiveness hinges on the infrastructure supporting the distributed ledger and consensus protocol that governs the validity of entries in the Blockchain. Hence, Blockchain can be a potential candidate to implement data provenance; however, traditional cryptocurrency-based consensus models become a bottleneck in the cloud environment. therefore, in this paper, we propose a Blockchain based data provenance architecture (BlockCloud) that incorporates a proof-of-stake (PoS)-based consensus protocol (CloudPoS) for securely recording the data operations occurring in cloud environment. the critical operational phases of the protocol are discussed in depth, which leverages the cloud users' cyber infrastructure resources. A cloud-based testbed environment is created using a local cluster of physical machines managed by Xen hypervisor. Resource elasticity is enabled using Kubernetes setup that interacts with the dockerized containers, which emulate as peers in the Blockchain network. We then evaluate the effectiveness of the protocol in a simulated environment and conduct performance tests of the proposed consensus.

Network-based deployments within the Internet of things increasingly rely on the cloud-controlled federation of individual networks to configure, authorize, and manage devices across network borders. While this approach allows the convenient and reliable interconnection of networks, it raises severe security and safety concerns. these concerns range from a curious cloud provider accessing confidential data to a malicious cloud provider being able to physically control safety-critical devices. To overcome these concerns, we present D-CAM, which enables secure and distributed configuration, authorization, and management across network borders in the cloud-based Internet of things. With D-CAM, we constrain the cloud to act as highly available and scalable storage for control messages. Consequently, we achieve reliable network control across network borders and strong security guarantees. Our evaluation confirms that D-CAM adds only a modest overhead and can scale to large networks.

the paper presents a real-time operating system (RTOS) that supports location-transparent shared resource management and distributed shared memory for distributed embedded control systems with CAN (Control Area Network) buses. In a distributed embedded control system, location transparent mechanisms are required because application tasks are distributed to a number of nodes. We have developed a RTOS that supports location-transparent inter-node shared resource management and distributed shared memory. the inter node resource access protocol is based on the Multiprocessor Priority Ceiling Protocol and inter-node locking is efficiently implemented using the arbitration mechanism of CAN. the distributed shared memory with mutual exclusion is also efficiently implemented. the RTOS is an extension to OSEK OS and supports not only inter-node resource management but also inter-core resource management for multi-core processors and inter-core and inter-node system calls for task management and event control. We have evaluated the performance of the RTOS and have confirmed that the performance is acceptable for practical embedded control systems.

this paper offers a cloud computing architecture supporting Navigation-as-a-Service (NAVaaS) for Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) to ensure interoperability among C-ITS users, i.e., users of single-and multi-Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receivers. the proposed architecture, namely, Cloud computing on Cooperative Cars (C4S) is a tailored design for connected vehicles using Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) or cellular connections. C4S is a scalable Everything-as-a-Service (XaaS) architecture using Mobile Cloud computing (MCC) for sharing resources, platforms, software, data and communications as services. these shared infrastructure, platform, software and communications services are distributed across clusters over a network of servers and clients complementing Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). C4S sits above the VANET layer of C-ITS to improve transportation in terms of safety, reliability, productivity and resilience, and environmental protection. To this end, C4S establishes itself over two levels of MCC: (1) DSRC-based local fogs and (2) the Internet-based remote cloud. this architecture made an array of novel cloud-based navigation services possible that supports VANETs. the mechanism, capacity and applications of NAVaaS are verified through a describing function model and a series of experimental studies.

We present in this paper a novel load balancing and rescheduling approach based on the concept of the Sandpile cellular automaton: a decentralized multi-agent system working in a critical state at the edge of chaos. Our goal is providing fairness between concurrent job submissions in highly parallel and distributed environments such as currently built cloud computing systems by minimizing slowdown of individual applications and dynamically rescheduling them to the best suited resources. the algorithm design is experimentally validated by a number of numerical experiments showing the effectiveness and scalability of the scheme in the presence of a large number of jobs and resources and its ability to react to dynamic changes in real time. the distributed Mobility Management protocol (DMM) was defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) for providing the alternative IP mobility management method. DMM has the characteristic of efficient network deployment capable and efficiency to fit user's demands. In the wireless network, it is possible that a lot of mobile nodes (MNs) may switch from the same previous network to the same new network, i.e., handover, around the same time. However, the currently proposed DMM-based control schemes mainly focus on the handover processing of one MN instead of several MNs. It causes the problem that many duplicate signaling messages are used during handover. In this paper, a Group-based handover control scheme using the partially distributed Mobility Management (GP-DMM) protocol is proposed to resolve the aforementioned problem. In the proposed GP-DMM scheme, multiple MNs, which move from the same previous network to the same destination around the same time, are formed as one group. In this way, only a set of control messages for handover is used instead of n sets of signaling messages for these n MNs. As a result, when the number of MNs increases, the amount of handover overhead, the handover delay and the packet loss are reduced.

Real-time gross settlement system (RTGS) is the cornerstone of inter-bank payment business. Spectacular expansion of large-value wholesale payment has forced financial institutions to implement inter-bank payment systems (IBPS) with higher level of throughput, security, and stability. this promising approach to orchestrating IBPS utilizes emerging blockchain technology, which has been successfully harnessed to deliver distributed trust and confidentiality for diverse financial service applications. However, blockchain is not a silver bullet for IBPS, which faces multiple challenges incurred by high value transactions. Financial institutions expect not only a simple migration from traditional RTGS to a blockchain platform, but a decentralized system with better confidentiality, instruction settlement finality, liquidity saving mechanism, and more efficient methods of gridlock resolution. In this paper, we introduce an end-to-end IBPS prototype based on Hyperledger Fabric enterprise blockchain platform. the prototype supports gross settlement, gridlock resolution, and reconciliation for inter-bank payment business. As a preliminary research of Ubin Project, this prototype is proved to provide higher level of payment settlement service.

Internet of things (IoT) is a paradigm which has become extremely popular, with applications spanning from e-health to industrial controls. IoT architectures are distributed and often based on constrained devices, which make challenging the task of introducing security mechanisms, in particular those requiring dynamic policy evaluation. In this paper we present UCIoT (Usage Control in IoT), a fault tolerant and adaptable framework for the enforcement of usage control policies in IoT environments. UCIoT brings the functionalities of a U-XACML-based usage control framework on a decentralized, distributed and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) architecture. In the present work, we describe an application of UCIoT in a Smart-Home environment, presenting also two possible use cases where usage control is exploited to implement a policy for energy saving and a policy for safety. A set of experiments on real devices is finally presented to report the performance of the system, measuring the overhead introduced by the UCIoT framework.
