Data search is one of the most important problems in the field of computer science and computer facilities. Classical relational DBMSs (RDBMS5), unfortunately, are not suitable as data storage systems for Big Data. therefore, the concept NoSQL is now widely spread. A common feature of such systems is a high throughput and linear scalability, depending on the number of storage servers used. One of the most productive NoSQL-systems, at the moment is Apache Cassandra. In this paper, we suggest ways to simulate the performance of such systems in hybrid computing environments.

the distinguishing feature of the Fog computing (FC) paradigm is that FC spreads communication and computing resources over the wireless access network, so as to provide resource augmentation to resource and energy-limited wireless (possibly mobile) devices. Since FC would lead to substantial reductions in energy consumption and access latency, it will play a key role in the realization of the Fog of Everything (FoE) paradigm. the core challenge of the resulting FoE paradigm is to materialize the seamless convergence of three distinct disciplines, namely, broadband mobile communication, cloud computing, and Internet of Everything (IoE). In this paper, we present a new IoE architecture for FC in order to implement the resulting FoE technological platform. then, we elaborate the related Quality of Service (QoS) requirements to be satisfied by the underlying FoE technological platform. Furthermore, in order to corroborate the conclusion that advancements in the envisioned architecture description, we present: (i) the proposed energy aware algorithm adopt Fog data center;and, (ii) the obtained numerical performance, for a real-world case study that shows that our approach saves energy consumption impressively in the Fog data Center compared with the existing methods and could be of practical interest in the incoming Fog of Everything (FoE) realm.

Many life-log analysis applications, which transfer data from cameras and sensors to a Cloud and analyze them in the Cloud, have been developed with the spread of various sensors and Cloud computing technologies. However, difficulties arise because of the limitation of the network bandwidth between the sensors and the Cloud. In addition, sending raw sensor data to a Cloud may introduce privacy issues. therefore, we propose distributed deep learning processing between sensors and the Cloud in a pipeline manner to reduce the amount of data sent to the Cloud and protect the privacy of the users. In this paper, we have developed a pipeline-based distributed processing method for the Caffe deep learning framework and investigated the processing times of the classification by varying a division point and the parameters of the network models using data sets, CIFAR-10 and ImageNet. the experiments show that the accuracy of deep learning with coarse-grain data is comparable to that with the default parameter settings, and the proposed distributed processing method has performance advantages in cases of insufficient network bandwidth with actual sensors and a Cloud environment. © 2017 ACM.

Generalization of Large-Scale Data Processing in One MapReduce Job for Coarse-Grained Parallelism

MapReduce, proposed as a programming model, has been widely adopted in large-scale data processing with the capability of exploiting distributed resources and processing large-scale data. Nevertheless, such success is accompanied by the difficulty of fitting applications into MapReduce. this is because MapReduce is limited to one kind of fine-grained parallelism-processing every input key-value pair independently. In this paper, we intend MapReduce to feature data processing for coarse-grained parallelism inside applications. More specifically, we generalize the applicability of one MapReduce job to let processing a set of input key-value pairs be allowed dependence, whereas we preserve independence while processing all sets. However, the advancement in this generalization brings the intricate problem of how two-stage processing structure, inherent in MapReduce, handles the dependence while processing a set of input key-value pairs. To tackle this problem, we propose the design pattern called two-phase data processing. It expresses the application in two phases not only to match the two-stage processing structure but to exploit the power of MapReduce through the cooperation between the mappers and reducers. To enable MapReduce to exploit coarse-grained parallelism, we present the design methodology to offer advice on granularity of parallelism, evaluation of manipulating the design pattern, and analysis of dependence. Of the two experiments, the first is conducted on the GPS records of public transit to demonstrate how to fuse a Big Data application with its data preprocessing into one MapReduce job. the second leads the expedition to the computer vision application and takes background subtraction, a part of video surveillance, to prove that our generalization broadens the feasibility of MapReduce.

Nowadays, the energy consumption of data centers is one of the biggest challenges in order to reduce operational expenditure (OPEX) and the carbon dioxide footprint. Most efforts are investigating the modernization of air conditions and server hardware, but also the optimization of resource allocations. Moreover, virtual server are migrated from one physical host to another in order to be able to shutdown unused physical computer nodes or even an entire rack. the Adapting Service lifeCycle towards EfficienT Clouds (ASCETiC) project tries to tackle this issue in another way. this project develops a toolbox that provides libraries and components which can be used to develop energy efficient cloud software on all three layers of the usual could stack. thus, power consumption can be reduced by deploying energy efficient software in the cloud. this paper presents the innovative ASCETiC testbed located at the Technical University in Berlin (TUB), which is the deveopment and evaluation eviroment for the afore metioned software.

Nowadays, distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks get the most attention since volumetric attacks saturate company's networks and associated server infrastructure. In fact, DDoS can occur weekly or daily in a network but many organizations have no systems in place to monitor DDoS traffic so as to be aware if their networks are being attacked. Within that context, we propose to develop an architecture that enables a network a capacity of monitoring traffic on the fly and flexibly applying various detection and mitigation methods in order to reduce DDoS impact on the system shortly after it has happened. We also propose a SDN One-packet DDoS Mitigation (SODM) scheme with an Openflow switch functioning as a gateway to protect the inner server infrastructure. We also analyze Internet traffic to understand its common nature during attack and normal time. Knowledge of the traffic characteristics and the way to derive attack indicators are a critical input for the detection mechanism to work. the defense solution performance is evaluated to be able to cope with DDoS in small real time-scale with an acceptable false positive rate of ∼ 6%. © 2017 ACM.

Empathy is an integral part of human social life, as people care about and for others who experience adversity. However, a specific "pathogenic" form of empathy, marked by automatic contagion of negative emotions, can lead to stress and burnout. this is particularly detrimental for individuals in caregiving professions who experience empathic states more frequently, because it can result in illness and high costs for health systems. Automatically recognizing pathogenic empathy from text is potentially valuable to identify at-risk individuals and monitor burnout risk in caregiving populations. We build a model to predict this type of empathy from social media language on a data set we collected of users' Facebook posts and their answers to a new questionnaire measuring empathy. Most Network-on-Chip routers dedicate a set of buffers to the input and/or output ports. this design decision leads to buffer underutilization especially when running applications with non-uniform traffic patterns. In order to maximize resource usage for performance and energy gains, we present a synchronous and elastic buffer implementation of a router architecture called Roundabout with intrinsic resource sharing. Roundabout is inspired by real-life traffic roundabouts and consists of lanes shared by multiple input and output ports. Roundabout offers performance improvement of 61% for uniform traffic pattern and up to 88% for non-uniform traffic pattern over the Hermes router, a typical input buffered router. In terms of power, it consumes 24% less than the Hermes router. Roundabout provides a highly parametric architecture that can produce different router configurations with varying topological trade-offs for performance gains without sacrificing area. © 2017 Association for computing Machinery.

With the development of cloud computing, the current Software Defined networking (SDN) data center which is based on the Open Source Cloud platform OpenStack cannot satisfy multiple users' service requirements. OpenStack cannot achieve centralized control of the physical network in cloud data center. In order to satisfy the user's flexible control of the data center network, a multi-tenant virtual network customization in cloud data center is proposed in this paper. SDN with the advantages of centralized control and programming is integrated to OpenStack cloud data center. Isolated tenant virtual SDN networks (vSDN) are created in the cloud data center via the virtual network mapping model based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. the vSDN network is controlled by tenant's own controller. Virtual network mapping performance, link customization and data transmission performance are tested in this paper. Results show that the virtual network mapping model based on PSO algorithm compared to shortest path (SP) algorithm, greatly improve the utilization rate of the underlying network bandwidth. At the same time, the SDN mode does not reduce the performance of data transmission on OpenStack cloud platform. the virtual network link customization improves the efficiency of data transmission for tenant. © 2017 ACM.

Patients suffering from Social Cognition Deficits have difficulties when trying to understand its interlocutor emotional status. In order to contribute to the treatment of this deficit, we have developed a distributed application to offer remote therapies and using the concept of avatars. By using this application, therapist embody avatars that convey their emotions, voices and gestures. therefore, this application enables patient to recognize the avatars emotions which, in turn, are controlled by the therapist. For this aim, a distributed software has been developed along with different devices such as a Kinect v2 for motion tracking and a facial expression analyzer. Unity has been used for the development of this application to make this type of remote therapy possible.
