this paper presents a method to analyze the local observability of nonlinear systems with known inputs. For this purpose, an algorithm is presented that performs rank checking of the observability matrix using Lie derivatives. To overcome the limitations associated with inserting initial conditions and symbolically computing the derivatives, Interval arithmetic and Taylor series expansion with automatic differentiation are used. this allows observability to be analyzed over an entire domain. the algorithm provides the intervals for which observability cannot be proven by the rank criterion. this can be helpful when designing real-world applications. Two numerical systems are given as examples, with the first one having a constant input signal and the second one having an analytical input. © 2023 IEEE.

A crucial requirement for control tasks in safety-critical systems like automotive is that all deadlines be met. this is becoming increasingly difficult when several tasks share common resources. One main reason for this lies in obtaining tight WCET estimations, especially as software and processor architectures continue to become more complex. Using safe but not necessarily tight WCET estimates and meeting all deadlines come at the expense of very pessimistic and inefficient implementations. In this paper, we show that by focusing on 'higher-level' properties like control safety, instead of trying to meet all deadlines, it is possible to achieve more efficient implementations of control tasks on shared resources. this has considerable benefits in cost-sensitive domains like automotive. the core of our technique follows the AUTOSAR paradigm where groups of control computations with the same period constitute units of scheduling. Towards this, we suitably increase (boost) or decrease (compress) the sampling periods of control tasks and schedule them in a manner that is cognizant of their high-level safety constraints, but does not necessarily meet all deadlines. Our results for several standard controllers from the automotive domain illustrate the benefits of our approach. © 2023 IEEE.

the SSE-YOLO model, optimized for object detection, has exhibited exceptional effectiveness in fire detection tasks, particularly within environments where computational resources are limited, such as embedded devices and edge computing platforms. While the standard YOLOv8 model achieves commendable accuracy, its substantial computational load and memory requirements present obstacles for its adoption in embedded systems. In response to these limitations, this paper introduces the SSE-YOLO model, which integrates the SimAM module, a Slim-neck architecture, and a Shared Convolutional Detection head to enhance performance. the SimAM module is incorporated into the backbone network to improve feature extraction efficiency without increasing parameter counts. Additionally, the Slim-neck architecture is applied to streamline the model, reducing both computational burden and parameter complexity. Lastly, the Shared Convolutional Detection head is employed to further boost the model's computational efficiency, thereby lowering resource usage during inference. Experimental evaluations on a fire detection dataset reveal that SSE-YOLO reduces model complexity and parameters by 45% and 31%, respectively, compared to YOLOv8n, while achieving improvements of 1.8% in mAP@0.5 and 3.8% in mAP@0.5:0.95. these findings demonstrate that SSE-YOLO delivers significant reductions in computational requirements while sustaining high detection performance, making it an ideal candidate for real-time fire detection on mobile and embedded systems. © 2024 IEEE.

the objective of this paper is to develop an Internet of things (IoT) system that utilizes fusion sensors implemented with Mruby, a lightweight implementation of the Ruby programming language specifically designed for microcontrollers. the Mruby has been adapted to function on compact devices such as the Internet of things (IoT) and other embedded systems. In addition, to improve communication efficiency in the IoT system. thus, LoRa is well-suited for integration with the IoT system. the LoRa module, a low-power transmission technology, facilitates communication between embedded systems and other systems. LoRa is a technology that allows communication over long distances while consuming little energy, which is suitable for integration with IoT systems. As a result, this research has focused on embedded system development, which involves creating software and hardware components for IoT and embedded systems through design, coding, and testing processes. this involves a combination of software and hardware engineering, with an emphasis on creating systems that are efficient and reliable and able to satisfy specific performance standards. the microcontroller has successfully created a functional environment for running Mruby. this involves running the Mruby code in the microcontroller environment. the experiment demonstrates the procedure for setting up a Mruby environment and directory structure, along with the creation of a test program that can access real-time data.

Edge appliances built with machine learning applications have been gradually adopted in a wide variety of application fields, such as intelligent transportation, the banking industry, and medical diagnosis. Privacy-preserving computation approaches can be used on smart appliances in order to secure the privacy of sensitive data, including application data and the parameters of machine learning models. Nevertheless, the data privacy is achieved at the cost of execution time. that is, the execution speed of a secure machine learning application is several orders of magnitude slower than that of the application in plaintext. Especially, the performance gap is enlarged for edge appliances. In this work, in order to improve the execution efficiency of secure applications, an open-source software framework CrypTen is targeted, which is widely used for building secure machine learning applications using the Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC) based privacy-preserving computation approach. We analyze the performance characteristics of the secure machine learning applications built with CrypTen, and the analysis reveals that the communication overhead hinders the execution of the secure applications. To tackle the issue, a communication library, OpenMPI, is added to the CrypTen framework as a new communication backend to boost the application performance by up to 50%. We further develop a hybrid communication scheme by combining the OpenMPI backend with the original communication backend with the CrypTen framework. the experimental results show that the enhanced CrypTen framework is able to provide better performance for the small-size data (LeNet5 on MNIST dataset by up to 50% of speedup) and maintain similar performance for large-size data (AlexNet on CIFAR-10), compared to the original CrypTen framework.

A real-time systems (RTS) typically consists of a set of real-time tasks that execute on a multicore platform following a scheduling policy. In an RTS, computing inter-core hounds, i.e., bounds separating events occurring on different cores, is crucial. While efficient techniques to over-approximate such bounds exist, little has been proposed to compute their exact values. Given an RTS with a set of cores C and a set of tasks T, under partitioned fixed -priority scheduling with limited preemption, a recent work by Foughali, Hladik and Zuepke (FEW) models tasks with affinity c (i.e., allocated to core c E C) as a UPPAAL timed automata (TA) network N. through compositional model checking, FHZ achieved a substantial gain in scalability for bounds local to a core. However, computing inter-core bounds for some events of interest E, produced by a subset of tasks TE C T with different affinities CE C C, requires model checking to E 11,Ecz IV,, i.e., the parallel composition of all TA networks N, for each c E CE, which often produces an intractable state space. In this paper, we present a new scalable approach based on exact abstractions to compute exact inter-core bounds in a schedulable RTS, under the assumption that tasks in TE have distinct affinities. We develop a new UPPAAL query, and a novel algorithm that computes, for each TA network N. in NE, an abstraction A(N,) preserving the exact intervals within which events occur on c. then, we model check A(NE) c C A(N,,) (instead of I'VE), therefore drastically reducing the state space. We demonstrate the scalability of our approach as we efficiently compute inter -core bounds for the WATERS 2017 industrial challenge, where FIZZ, fails to scale.

the increasing utilization of the Internet of things (IoT) has the potential to transform the Quality Infrastructure (QI) by encompassing all its fundamental components: metrology, standardization, accreditation, conformity assessment, and market surveillance. the objective of this paper is to analyze the applications, potentialities, and challenges of using IoT within the context of QI 4.0. the research was conducted through an integrative review, and the results indicate that IoT can facilitate the automation of processes, improve the traceability of products and services, and enable the creation of new standards based on real-time data. However, significant challenges such as cybersecurity, data privacy, and device interoperability must be overcome for QI 4.0 to be fully realized. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper presents a real-time object detection system using the latest YOLOv8 model to enhance traffic monitoring and safety enforcement. the model was trained to detect helmets, riders and number plates in diverse traffic scenarios, achieving an overall accuracy of 93.4%. Significant improvements were observed in precision, recall and mean Average Precision (mAP) scores due to the combination of an optimized architecture, high-quality data and fine-tuned hyperparameters. the system maintains real-time inference capabilities with a processing speed of 11 ms per image, making it suitable for continuous surveillance and enforcement applications. this study demonstrates the potential of using advanced deep learning techniques for effective and automated traffic rule enforcement. Future work may involve further optimizations and integration with large-scale cloud-based systems for more comprehensive deployments. © 2024 IEEE.

the automotive industry relies on wide range of networking protocols to facilitate effective communication and data exchange within vehicles. Local Interconnect Network (LIN) is a cost-effective protocol commonly utilized for non- critical tasks such as controlling interior lighting and transmitting basic sensor data. Similarly, Control Area Network (CAN) is a widely accepted protocol that enables high-speed real-time networking between electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and actuators. CANopen is a protocol built after CAN, offers standardized communication profiles and advanced features to seamlessly integrate devices in embedded systems across various industries, including automotive. time- Triggered CAN (TTCAN) enhances traditional CAN by incorporating time-triggered communication capabilities, ensuring deterministic behavior and predictable response times crucial for safety-critical applications. SAE J1939, which is based on CAN is commonly used in heavy-duty vehicles for standardized communication and diagnostics among different vehicle components. FlexRay, known for its high-speed and deterministic characteristics, is used in safety-critical automotive systems like active suspension and steer-by-wire applications, providing fault tolerance and advanced control functionalities. A comprehensive understanding of these automotive networking protocols is vital for establishing reliable and efficient communication networks that support a wide array of functionalities and safety features in modern vehicles. © 2024 IEEE.
