this paper describes a model-driven toolchain for developing component-based applications that enables users to use the same models that define their application to execute them. In this vein, models always remain true to the final application, unlike other approaches where a model tranformation generates a skeleton of the final application after the first steps of the development process. these kind of approaches normally end up with models that represent a different application than the one present in the code.

Mobile applications have become highly pervasive in recent years. Assuring the quality of mobile applications is a highly relevant issue since application failures can lead to serious consequences, such as damage of corporate reputation or financial loss. Several obstacles exist in testing mobile applications (e.g., lack of time, absence of methods, limited budget). Our goal in this work is to investigate how we can enhance the effectiveness of testing processes applied by companies developing mobile applications. To do so, it is necessary to identify where applied industrial testing processes are actually missing in order to provide countermeasures. Our approach comprises a set of previously selected mobile testing requirements, which enable the investigation and rating of the applied testing processes based on the fulfillment of these requirements. Elicitation is done via a systematic interview of a company based on a defined questionnaire. Identified failures of selected mobile application projects are then related to the set of mobile testing requirements, and the severity of unfulfilled testing requirements is determined. Finally, we recommend to this company a set of countermeasures for unfulfilled testing requirements that may lead to crucial failures. We evaluated this approach by applying it together with eight software companies in Germany and in Brazil, followed by two surveys: one right after the interview to evaluate the acceptance of the approach, and another one after the post-processing and recommendations phase. the evaluation showed the acceptance of our approach and the expected enhancement of the effectiveness of the companies' mobile testing processes. Traditional embedded systems are evolving into heterogeneous systems in order to address new and more demanding software requirements. Modern embedded systems are constructed by combining different computation units, such as traditional CPUs with Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Adding GPUs to conventional CPU-based embedded systems enhances the computation power but also increases the complexity in developing software applications. A method that can help to tackle and address the software complexity issue of heterogeneous systems is component-based development. the allocation of the software application onto the appropriate computation node is greatly influenced by the system information load. the allocation process is increased in difficulty when we use, instead of common CPU-based systems, complex CPU-GPU systems. this paper presents a 2-layer component-based architecture for heterogeneous embedded systems, which has the purpose to ease the software-to-hardware allocation process. the solution abstracts the CPU-GPU detailed component-based design into single software components in order to decrease the amount of information delivered to the allocator. the last part of the paper describes the activities of the allocation process while using our proposed solution, when applied on a real system demonstrator.

Stream processing has emerged as the major paradigm to tackle the digital information flood. Within stream processing, complex event processing (CEP) represents a pattern-based approach that enables automated situation detection and real-time monitoring. One deficit of CEP applications is the negligence of the evolution of situations, as only two states are differentiated with regard to the occurrence of situations: detected and not detected. this behavior might lead to critical situations due to a decreased comprehensibility for operators. On the other side situation awareness (SAW) is a recognized psychological model describing the characteristics and mechanisms of operators responsible for complex systems. In this paper, we combine the technological method CEP with the human factors identified in SAW to determine the missing links. In order to bridge the gap, this paper presents an extension of the state-of-the-art situation lifecycle to support SAW to its full extent. Furthermore, requirements for situation-aware CEP applications are derived and a methodology to develop such applications is proposed.

the rapid development of Internet of things and the current capabilities of high performance embedded systems have made them more attractive for the replacement of human personnel in hazardous or tedious duties. One such application is for guarding certain areas, such as the entrance of a warehouse for example. the aim of this work is to design an autonomous embedded security system for surveillance reasons. this system consists of a sentry gun and a camera. the software directing the sentry gun's actions is based on face and motion detection and face recognition. this gun locates, tracks and aims those who enter guarded areas and after verbal warning it fires, when facial recognition fails. this process is automated and works with high accuracy in real time circumstances. It also has the ability to inform its user when an intruder enters the area. the system meets the characteristics of ubiquitous computing as it is autonomous, can be used in any location and can be operated remotely via a web interface. It is hybrid because it supports two different versions of software with different hardware on each one, in order to allow the user to select the proper system version for him. the asymmetric embedded system's first version consists of a single board computer and the second version consists of a mini desktop for the computationally intensive tasks. A microcontroller is being used for high accuracy on the actuators and the system has the capability to use both USB and stereoscopic camera. © 2016 IEEE.

the current research paper is interested in flexible reconfigurable real-time Network-on-Chip (NoC) in Multiprocessors System-on-Chip MPSoC architectures. A NoC is composed of several nodes where each one consists of a processor and a router. the reconfiguration of a processor is any operation that permits the addition-removal-update of periodic dependent OS (Operating System) tasks that are sharing resources. For two added dependent tasks assigned to different processors, a message is added automatically on the NoC. After any reconfiguration scenario, several real-time constraints cannot be satisfied since a task can miss its deadline and a message can take a long time to arrive to its destination. In order to re-obtain the system feasibility, we propose a new approach that is called CRM (abrev. Cynapsys Reconfigurable MPSoC). A multi-agent architecture based on a master/slave model is defined where a slave agent is assigned to each node to control its local feasibility after any reconfiguration scenario, and a master is proposed for the whole architecture if any perturbation occurs at run-time by proposing software or hardware solutions. A developed tool at LISI laboratory and Cynapsys is implemented for a real case study in order to evaluate the paper's contribution.

Reputation management in social media has become crucial for firms that want to improve their brand's image and master the impact of harmful events. this is why, many companies are making important invests in acquiring powerful social media monitoring tools (SMM). Although SMM tools are displaying relevant insights useful for marketers, few calculate a global reputation score that can help companies to evaluate the reputation of their brand. Moreover, main reputation metrics used focus on messages analysis without drawing up an analysis based on social members' perception. For this purpose we have developed an Intelligent Reputation Measuring System (IRMS) that scores reputation in a social network using a multi-context and people oriented model. In this paper we experiment IRMS using real world social data from Twitter and show the precision of IRMS score in comparison with reputation metrics of a SMM tools selection. © 2016 IEEE.

the biological human brain works with spiking neural networks which computational complexity is simple, compensated by the high density connection between neurons. However, most of our research in artificial neural networks is based on simplified models that need many real values processing elements of complex computing which require too much silicon space, energy and slow learning convergence. therefore, in this brief article, it is presented a proposal for a fully digital architecture on FPGAs optimized for a highly dense intersynaptic connection on an event-based quantized Sigma-Delta pulse coding for deep Convolutional Neural Networks. this article presents early results of an approach of neuromorphic hardware design for information or pixel luminosity changes coded in time, using Sigma-Delta modulation, the design of a Pulsed Arithmetic-Logic Unit for bitstream operations with quantized weights reducing memory, from 32 bits in floating point representation, down to 1 bit. this 32x memory reduction and binary operation cells in a systolic architectures makes the integration of deep learning models feasible for embedded design like smart cameras using FPGAs.

Facial expression has made significant progress in recent years with many commercial systems are available for real-world applications. It gains strong interest to implement a facial expression system on a portable device such as tablet and smart phone device using the camera already integrated in the devices. It is very common to see face recognition phone unlocking app in new smart phones which are proven to be hassle free way to unlock a phone. Implementation a facial expression system in a smart phone would provide fun applications that can be used to measure the mood of the user in their daily life or as a tool for their daily monitoring of the motion in phycology studies. However, traditional facial expression algorithms are normally computing extensive and can only be implemented offline at a computer. In this paper, a novel automatic system has been proposed to recognize emotions from face images on a smart phone in real-time. In our system, the camera of the smart phone is used to capture the face image, BRIEF features are extracted and k-nearest neighbor algorithm is implemented for the classification. the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed facial expression recognition on mobile phone is successful and it gives up to 89.5% recognition accuracy.
