the present study introduces a real-time control algorithm for applications involving energy maximisation and subject to technological limitations. Development of Wave energy converters constitutes an actual topic of research, in their designs and fluid-interactions, and particularly on their controllability. Immersed WECs are subject to fluid-interaction forces, generating unusual solicitations specific to hydrodynamic equation, such as radiation force or excitation forces. Various control strategies were recently developed and more advance control algorithms are currently applied on WECS, such as Model Predictive Control [1], or Pseudospectral optimal control [2]. Such control strategies, capable of maximizing the energy production while insuring the respect of path constraints, are more realistic and applicable in real conditions involving technological limitation aspects. this paper presents a receding horizon type control, based on pseudospectral approach in the control problem resolution. Dealing with irregular waves on a fixed control horizon, the presented control need to work with nonperiodic functions, implying the change of the basis functions involved in the description of the state and control variables, namely the half-range Chebyshev Fourier functions. Application of the receding horizon control is presented for a generic WEC, and compared with a standard MPC algorithm.

Not finding a parking space for you sometimes is indeed a critical issue. the number of vehicles is also increasing daily adding to the parking vows at public places. Cities noticed that their drivers had real problems to find a parking space easily especially during peak hours, the difficulty roots from not knowing where the parking spaces are available at the given time. Even if this is known, many vehicles may pursue a small number of parking spaces which in turn leads to traffic congestion. the traffic on roads and parking space has been an area of concern in majority of cities. So, parking monitoring is an important solution. To avoid these problems, recently many new technologies have been developed that help in solving the parking problems to a great extent. Firstly, this paper gives an overview about the concept of smart parking system, their categories and different functionalities. then we present the latest developments in parking infrastructures. We describe the technologies around parking availability monitoring, parking reservation and dynamic pricing and see how they are utilized in different settings. In addition, a theoretical comparison is presented to show advantages and drawbacks of each different smart parking system to discuss results and open directions for future research.

Facial expression has made significant progress in recent years with many commercial systems are available for real-world applications. It gains strong interest to implement a facial expression system on a portable device such as tablet and smart phone device using the camera already integrated in the devices. It is very common to see face recognition phone unlocking app in new smart phones which are proven to be hassle free way to unlock a phone. Implementation a facial expression system in a smart phone would provide fun applications that can be used to measure the mood of the user in their daily life or as a tool for their daily monitoring of the motion in phycology studies. However, traditional facial expression algorithms are normally computing extensive and can only be implemented offline at a computer. In this paper, a novel automatic system has been proposed to recognize emotions from face images on a smart phone in real-time. In our system, the camera of the smart phone is used to capture the face image, BRIEF features are extracted and k-nearest neighbor algorithm is implemented for the classification. the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed facial expression recognition on mobile phone is successful and it gives up to 89.5% recognition accuracy.

Nowadays, social media has become a massive real-time source of fresh information. Which gather a large volume of data produced every day to analysts who wish to discover new opportunities in the emerging research area of mining the noisy corpus present in social media. However, the noisy and short nature of this kind of text hamper this desire: unlike structured news content, social media users often prefer communicating unconventionally with informal, and ungrammatical language using abbreviations, slang, misspelled words, or non-standard short-forms: noisy words. Under those purposes, it becomes a challenge to present new methods to boost the performance of existing systems which convert this noisy text to Standard English. Most previous work didn't encompass all kinds of casual English noise, or made a strong assumption that the best canonical candidate is the one present in the correction dictionaries. this is not realistic because one noisy word can have different meanings considering the context, the area of interest and the time period of those noisy words extraction. In this paper, we target all kinds of casual English noise neglected by state-of-art by proposing a novel weakly supervised approach. this one takes into account the context, the type of interest of those noisy words and their time period of extraction: Once the informal word is identified, we recognize its type of interest by surrounding its context. then, we generate the best and highly ranked canonical form depending on the extraction time period of the noisy word. Finally, we normalize the noisy word. this multi-faceted, context aware, and interest sensitive approach is expected to yield more accurate results than existing state-of-art solutions.

the last decade has witnessed an increasing trend in the use of positioning and navigation (POS/NAV) technologies in wide range of applications. the recent advances in information and communication technology necessitate the development of reliable POS/NAV systems. Wireless positioning technologies including Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) like GPS in open sky and wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) indoors are presently widely used for POS/NAV applications. However, they still suffer from several shortcomings such as signal blockage, interference and multipath in some challenging environments. Integration of GNSS/WLANs with other sensors (like accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers) can bridge the accuracy gaps in such challenging environments. this presentation discusses the development and demonstrates the performance of two POS/NAV products. Both products were designed to provide robust POS/NAV solutions utilizing multi-sensor fusion technologies. the first product is an integrated POS/NAV system for land vehicles involving GPS and low cost accelerometers and gyroscopes. the system is designed to provide seamless POS/NAV solution in all environments. the second product is an indoor multi-sensor tracking device that integrates accelerometers and gyroscopes from different wearable and portable devices. the tracking device was specifically designed to position without involving GPS or WLAN. the real-time positioning performance of both products will be demonstrated as part of this presentation.

Virtualization is an important technology in data center environment due to its useful features such as server consolidation, power saving, live migration and faster server provisioning. However, virtualization sometimes incurs some performance loss. there are many virtualization approaches including full virtualization and operating system-level virtualization. Different virtualization platforms differ in terms of features, performance and virtualization overhead. thus, one platform can be more suitable to certain kind of application than another. applications being virtualized also differ in resource usage. Web conferencing systems become popular as the clients' bandwidth has increased in last years, in educational, researching and business fields. the BigBlueButton is a web conferencing system that allows multiple users join a conference room, having classes and share their microphone, webcam, desktop and files. In this paper, we use KVM and OpenVZ as virtualization platforms to deploy conference systems using BigBlueButton. We explore its virtual performance under a real-world workload and a set of benchmarks that stress different aspects such as computing power, latency and memory, I/O and network bandwidth. these results can be a valuable information to be taken in account by systems administrators, for capacity planning and systems designing. Which, in turn, lead to cost savings for companies.

As real-time embedded systems demand more and more computing power under reasonable energy budgets, multi-core platforms are a viable option. However, deploying real-time applications on multi-core platforms introduce several predictability challenges. One of these challenges is bounding the latency of memory accesses issued by real-time tasks. this challenge is exacerbated as the number of cores and, hence, the degree of resource sharing increases. Over the last several years, researchers have proposed techniques to overcome this challenge. In prior work, we proposed an arbitration policy for memory access requests over a Network-on-Chip. In this paper, we implement and evaluate variants of our arbitration policy on a real hardware platform, namely Tilera's TilePro64 platform.

Patient monitoring is emerging as an important application of embedded sensors network. Many wireless sensors are implanted in/on the patient body. these tiny wireless sensors make Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). WBANs can observe physiological conditions of patient under supervision, and can provide us real-time feedback. through WBAN a patient is constantly monitored, and in case of some critical situation an immediate action should be required. In today's world most of the healthcare organizations need to modernize their IT infrastructure so that they can be able to provide safer, faster and more efficient healthcare delivery. this paper presents a new architecture based on cloudlet and software defined networking to smooth out devices and access networks heterogeneities and enable fast access for data collection and analysis through the cloud environments.

Smart home is an important applicable field of Internet of things. In line with the applicable demands and features of smart home, a design of smart home control system by Internet of things based on ZigBee has been advanced in this paper. In the proposed system, LM3S8962 32-bit processor is used as the main controller to complete the design of embedded WEB server. Meanwhile, a number of things have adopted in the program design, such as RTX operating system in RL-ARM real time database, Common Gateway Interface function and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. A variety of tasks of the system function module can be completed by RTX operating system. the information exchange between the client side and the server side can be realized by Common Gateway Interface technology. Ethernet communication can be implemented by Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. What's more, ZigBee wireless communication module is applied for the local communication, and it can send and receive the transmission information between the main controller and the various home appliances. the experimental results show that remote monitoring appliance can be realized. And the proposed smart home control system is simple and feasible, which can be widely used in smart home remote monitoring.

Nowadays modern chip multi-cores (CMPs) become more demanding because of their high performance especially in real-time embedded systems. On the other side, bounded latencies has become vital to guarantee high performance and fairness for applications running on CMPs cores. We propose a new memory controller that prioritizes and assigns defined quotas for cores within unified epoch (MCES). Our approach works on variety of generations of double data rate DRAM (DDR DRAM). MCES is able to achieve an overall performance reached 35% for 4 cores system.
