Modern strides in autonomous vehicles and embedded advanced driver assistant part systems(ADAS) have forced the need of an efficient in addition to accurate system intended for clear road lane as in addition to vehicle detection. For road lane detection, this study introduces a new proposal through the combination of YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once), and YOLO for vehicle detection, creating a complete package for road understanding and navigation. To achieve accurate road lane detection, YOLOv8, which is the fastest and most accurate model to date, is used to ensure that it can keep track of these lanes in real-time with consistent accuracy whenever the camera is placed under various scenarios with insufficient lighting and occlusions as well. At the same time it uses YOLO for vehicle detection, which improves the recognition and interpretation of the presence and motion of vehicles in real time. the system uses Streamlit, which is an open-source app framework for Machine Learning and Data Science projects to provide an intuitive user experience. Finally, we build an interface to provide results of lane and vehicle detection in realtime manner to allow ease of monitoring and evaluation on the overall system. the combination of YOLOv8 and YOLO with Streamlit provides a powerful, scalable, and deployable solution for practical computer vision applications. Combining well established object detection algorithms with a simplified deployment platform, the proposed system tackles some of the hardest and time consuming areas of autonomous driving. the goal is to make significant contributions to both the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles and pave the way for further inevitable advances in ADAS. © 2024 IEEE.

Batteryless sensors accelerate the Internet of things by making wireless sensor applications sustainable. However, their inherent and frequent power failures render batteryless devices less dependable than their battery-driven equivalents. To regain dependability for intermittent systems, energy-aware scheduling strategies are required. Evaluating and comparing such algorithms only on hardware can be tedious and time consuming. Furthermore, environmental impacts and hardware variation affect repeatability and reproducibility. therefore, we present a high-level modeling approach based on energy flows that allows the simulation of the timely behavior of intermittent systems. In specific, we model a solar-powered batteryless sensor node and use a recorded outdoor solar trace as harvest input. To show the usefulness of the approach, we compare the two different operating strategies soft-Intermittent computing and hard-Intermittent computing. To validate the model a harvesting power estimation algorithm is implemented on the hardware and compared with the simulation. the results show that the simulation reproduces the intermittent behavior in an appropriate way. Moreover, we find that soft-IC can be a suitable substitute for hard-IC with the benefit of simplified timekeeping during times of power failure.

the design of efficient and secure cryptographic algorithms is a fundamental problem of cryptography. Due to the tight cost and constrained resources devices such as Radio-Frequency IDentification (RFID), wireless sensors, smart cards, health-care devices, lightweight cryptography has received a great deal of attention. Recent research mainly focused on designing optimized cryptographic algorithms which trade offs between security performance, time consuming, energy consumption and cost. In this paper, we present two chaotic stream ciphers based on chaos and we report the results of a comparative performance evaluation study. Compared to other crypto-systems of the literature, we demonstrate that our designed stream ciphers are suitable for practical secure applications of the Internet of things (IoT) in a constrained resource environment.

the fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks are increasingly considered for industrial applications, such as factory automation systems. In 5G networks, Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) are two essential services. eMBB services require high data rates with some lower bounds while URLLC traffic is subject to strict latency and reliability requirements. Existing approaches to scheduling coexisting eMBB and URLLC traffic all assume that URLLC traffic preempts eMBB traffic immediately upon arrival, which can adversely impact the achievable eMBB data rates. Furthermore, none of the prior work considers guaranteeing minimum data rate requirements imposed on certain eMBB traffic. this paper proposes a new model to capture the URLLC and eMBB requirements and introduces a novel framework, QoSG-RA, to perform network resource allocation for coexisting eMBB and URLLC traffic. QoSG-RA builds on a hybrid offline/online approach which performs offline resource allocation to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of eMBB and URLLC traffic to be satisfied and online resource allocation to maximize fairness on the data rates among eMBB traffic based on runtime information. QoSG-RA is able to (i) meet latency and reliability requirements of URLLC traffic, and (ii) maximize the data rates for eMBB traffic in a fair way while fulfilling their minimum data rate requirements. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of QoSG-RA compared to the state-of-the-art.

the emerging field of ubiquitous computing leads to new application and processing speed requirements in various every day aspects. When it comes to image processing tasks, which require many computations, the limited resources of embedded systems make those tasks rather challenging. this paper explores an implementation of an object detection task deployed on an embedded device NVIDIA Jetson Nano GPGPU: YOLO object detector detects the nostrils of horses using an infrared camera during transportation. Results of the proposed algorithm can directly be used for calculating the breathing rate and to find out if the horse is currently under stress. We compared YOLOv5 and YOLOv8 as object detection models. In the proposed implementation on the NVIDIA Jetson Nano GPGPU the inference time is around 40ms, which fulfills real-time processing requirements for the given environment. Both YOLO versions tested show high accuracy, while the additional robustness tests indicate a slight advantage of YOLOv5 comparing to YOLOv8. © 2023 IEEE.

In the world of real-time systems (RTS), security has often been overlooked in the design process. However, with the emergence of the Internet of things and Cyber-Physical systems, RTS are now frequently used in interconnected applications where data is shared regularly. Unfortunately, this increased connectivity has also led to a larger attack surface. As a result, it is crucial to redesign RTS to not only meet real-time requirements but also to be resilient to threats. To address this issue, we propose a new real-time security co-design task model, and an accompanying scheduling framework, where schedulability can be used to indicate whether both real-time and security requirements are met. Our algorithm is designed to be flexible, allowing different security mechanisms to be used along with real-time tasks. Specifically, we augment the frame-based task model by introducing an n-dimensional security matrix, which serves as a powerful tool to enable our approach. this matrix clearly indicates which defense mechanisms are available for each task in the system by storing the worst-case execution times of tasks. then, we transform the problem of maximizing security, subject to schedulability, into a variant of the knapsack problem. To make this approach more practical, we implement a fully polynomial time approximation scheme (FPTAS) that reduces the time complexity of solving the knapsack problem from a pseudo-polynomial to a fully polynomial. We also experiment with a greedy-heuristic approach and compare the results of both algorithms. By using an FPTAS, we were able to significantly improve the efficiency of calculating the maximum security and produce near-optimal results against the optimal solution. Our experiments showed that an FPTAS can process a batch of 10,000 task sets 1.5 times faster than the traditional dynamic programming approach. © 2023 IEEE.

After the COVID-induced lock-downs, augmented/virtual reality turned from leisure to desired reality. real-time 3D audio is a crucial enabler for these technologies. Nevertheless, systems offering object spatialization in 3D audio fall in two limited cases. they either require long-running pre-renders or involve powerful computing platforms. Furthermore, they mainly focus on active audio sources, while humans rely on the sound's interactions with passive obstructions to sense their environment. We propose a hardware co-processor for real-time 3D audio spatialization supporting passive obstructions. Our solution attains similar latency w.r.t. workstations while draining a tenth of the power, making it suitable for embedded applications.

the question of using low-cost Multiband Global Navigation Satellite System GNSS receivers and antennas in land surveying is real and important. In France, mainly a collaborative real time Kinematic (RTK) network called Centipede covers the country providing the corrections open access in real time to the users. Furthermore, the low-cost interface application and software called SW Maps connect the Low-cost GNSS receiver to the Centipede-RTK network using a smartphone. the cost of surveying projects using all these elements is certainly economical. the main question here is the reliability of this package to perform continuous, stable, and reliable RTK land surveying. We test this capability by examining the differences in the RTK position of known control points with a series of measurements over different mount points. the results show that we can use this package for land surveying only with necessary validation and control by experimental users, as the indicators of Centipede RTK accuracy via the SW Maps interface are not representative. © 2025 by SCITEPRESS - Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Power efficiency is a crucial consideration for embedded systems design, particularly in the field of edge computing and IoT devices. this study aims to calibrate the power measurements obtained from the built-in sensors of NVIDIA Jetson devices, facilitating the collection of reliable and precise power consumption data in real-time. To achieve this goal, accurate power readings are obtained using external hardware, and a regression model is proposed to map the sensor measurements to the true power values. Our results provide insights into the accuracy and reliability of the built-in power sensors for various Jetson edge boards and highlight the importance of calibrating their internal power readings. In detail, internal sensors underestimate the actual power by up to 50% in most cases, but this calibration reduces the error to within +/- 3%. By making the internal sensor data usable for precise online assessment of power and energy figures, the regression models presented in this paper have practical applications, for both practitioners and researchers, in accurately designing energy-efficient and autonomous edge services.

Edge computing has emerged as the solution to the continuously increasing numbers of Internet-connected devices and to the ever increasing amounts of data transmitted by them. through the use of advanced algorithms and hardware components it allows sensor data processing at the source and reduces the volumes of data transmitted within the network. this paper focuses on the idea of edge computing, looks at some of the most important achievements in the field, and presents a use case system that shows how edge intelligence is becoming more common. the developed use case system is an environmental wireless sensor that is able to run for long periods of time on a single coin-cell battery while measuring parameters like equivalent CO2 (carbon dioxide) and VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). this was made possible through the device's design, components, and advanced firmware, that uses high-level signal processing and fusion algorithms.
