AI development has brought many significant changes in various aspects of our daily lives in recent years. Integrating AI technology into various applications has revolutionized multiple domains, and one particularly vital area is traffic sign recognition, which significantly enhances driver safety. this paper presents an approach to traffic sign recognition specifically designed for the Jetson Nano 2GB device. By utilizing the YOLOv8 Nano model, the proposed approach achieves a remarkable frame rate of up to 32 frames per second (FPS). To optimize inference speed on Jetson with limited memory, the approach incorporates TensorRT and quantization techniques. In addition, this paper introduces a dataset called the Vietnamese Traffic Sign Detection Database 100 (VTSDB100). this dataset is an extension of the VTSDB46 dataset and encompasses a comprehensive collection of 100 different classes of traffic signs. these signs were captured in diverse locations within Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, providing a rich and diverse dataset for training and evaluating traffic sign recognition models. Extensive experiments and analyses were conducted using various object detection methods on the VTSDB100 dataset. the findings highlight the potential of deploying the proposed approach on resource-constrained devices and provide valuable insights for further research and development in AI-powered driver safety systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Cyber-Physical systems, including those in the automotive domain, are often designed by assigning to each task an appropriate criticality-based reward value which is acquired by the system on its successful execution. Additionally, each task may have multiple implementations designated as service-levels, with higher service-levels producing more accurate results and contributing to higher rewards for the system. this work proposes strategies for co-scheduling a set of periodic tasks with multiple service-levels, on homogeneous processors and system buses. the problem is modeled as a Multi-dimensional Multiple-Choice Knapsack formulation (MMCKP) with the objective of maximizing overall system level rewards. A Dynamic Programming (DP) solution is proposed to solve the MMCKP. It was observed that although the DP based solution produces optimal results, its complexity is highly sensitive to the number of tasks, processors, buses as well as to the number of task service-levels, which severely restricts scalability of the strategy. therefore, we have also proposed a fast yet efficient heuristic algorithm called Accurate Low Overhead Level Allocator (ALOLA), which attempts to achieve the same objective. Our simulation based experimental evaluation shows that even on moderately large systems consisting of 90 tasks with 5 service-levels each, 16 processors and 4 buses, while MMCKP incurs a run-time of more than 1 hour 20 minutes and approximately 68 GB main memory, ALOLA takes only about 196 mu s (speedup of the order of 10(6) times) and less than 1 MB of memory. Moreover, while being fast, ALOLA is also efficient being able to control performance degradations to at most 13% compared to the optimal results produced by MMCKP. We use an automated flight control system employed in modern avionic systems, a real-world application to illustrate the general applicability of our proposed scheme.

Task Scheduling is very complex in terms of resource utilization for the workload distributed on Virtual Machines. It is a very typical issue for the task of scheduling distributed on virtual machines, which is the most specific problem in cloud computing. Without scheduling, load balancing is not proper for balancing distributed on a virtual machine because maximum makes the unbalancing. So, it will be indispensable for which the reduced response time, makespan time with scheduling. the first experiment aims to compare traditional Ant Colony Optimization algorithms (ACO), the second experiment to solve the maximum global optimization problems by Genetic Algorithms (GA), and the third experimental series the performance of Particle Swarm Optimization algorithms (PSO) for increasing the resources’ utilization for synthetically and actual trace data, respectively. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) methods are required to extract the maximum available power in PV systems. these algorithms are normally implemented employing a DC/DC converter with a nonlinear behavior, which must be properly controlled in order to avoid instability. In this paper, the Perturbation & Observation (P&O) MPPT algorithm with an appropriate closed-loop control structure for dealing with sudden changes of environmental conditions is presented. the proposed method can greatly improve the time response and the steady-state accuracy of the MPPT simultaneously. the proposed approach has been tested in MATLAB / Simulink environment, and the result shows the reliability and speed of access to MPP when environmental conditions change. © 2022 IEEE.

Distributed systems are a suitable alternative to optimize the current embedded technologies, since this kind of systems increase processing power to execute tasks, which otherwise, would take plenty of time to finish with a single processing core, likewise, a larger amount of electronic sensing devices can be added to the system, improving its capacity to collect and analyze data whatsoever. In this work, we propose to use distributed systems theory, in 8 bit CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) microcontrollers, more in particular, devices PIC16F887 from Microchip, which have a reduced and limited architecture. By doing this, a low-power embedded system focused on performing multiple operations and tasks is proposed, in which, time is a vital element, such as real time operating systems, using hard-wired embedded communication protocols to accomplish the correct distribution of data. Using cluster system of the microcontrollers, instead of a microprocessor-based distributed system or a single core embedded system, implies important advantages, such as considerable cost reduction, size flexibility to install this kind of systems in several applications, and a great possibility to modify the initial design and functionality to couple to all the needs of the user. Also, one of the objectives of this development, is to create an easily scalable distributed system, depending on the needs of the use given. the combination of the features mentioned, makes this system suitable for educational purposes, since its simplicity is ideal for students of topics regarding distributed systems. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Mobile robots are now widely used in numerous real-world applications that have complex navigation requirements, especially in environments used by humans. this requires highly accurate navigation that can be performed in realtime. In this paper, a method for generating a smooth motion of nonholonomic mobile robots is proposed. It enables robots to move optimally toward the desired goal and allows fast path replanning when encountering unknown or dynamic obstacles. the method generates smooth, collision-free trajectories based on clothoids, ensuring high computational efficiency and suitability for realtime path planning. By applying a smoothing algorithm, the proposed method improves the robot's efficiency in terms of travel time and trajectory length from start to goal, as demonstrated by a comparison with model predictive control.

this paper proposes a broadband comb-line array antenna for low-terahertz (low-thz) automotive imaging radar. the antenna is composed of 18 array units, 42 parasitic units and 8 grooves on the array units. the low sidelobe performance is attained by tuning the width of the element. the lateral distribution of the current on the large-width radiating elements is reduced by narrowing the width and introducing slots at the top. this method further reduces the sidelobe level (SLL) of the antenna. Furthermore, a wider bandwidth is obtained by introducing parasitic cells around the radiating elements. Simulation outcomes corroborate that the antenna attains return losses superior to 10 dB from 86.04 GHz to 129.21 GHz. the antenna demonstrates a normalized maximum SLL of -18 dB in the H-plane and a -3 dB beamwidth spanning approximately 11.7°. A wider bandwidth allows the automotive imaging radar to acquire more target information per unit of time, and the lower SLL enhances the fidelity of the received signal, concomitantly reducing susceptibility to undesirable interference effects. © 2023 IEEE.

the rate of progress in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has significantly increased over the past ten years and continues to accelerate. Since then, AI has made the leap from research case studies to real production ready applications. the significance of this growth cannot be undermined as it catalyzed the very nature of computing. Conventional platforms struggle to achieve greater performance and efficiency, what causes a surging demand for innovative AI accelerators, specialized platforms and purpose-built computes. At the same time, it is required to provide solutions for assessment of ML platform performance in a reproducible and unbiased manner to be able to provide a fair comparison of different products. this is especially valid for Human System Interaction (HSI) systems that require specific data handling for low latency responses in emergency situations or to improve user experience, as well as for preserving data privacy and security by processing it locally. Taking it into account, this work presents a comprehensive guideline on preferred benchmarking criteria for evaluation of ML platforms that include both lower level analysis of ML models and system-level evaluation of the entire pipeline. In addition, we propose a Systematic Taxonomy of embedded Platforms (STEP) that can be used by the community and customers for better selection of specific ML hardware consistent with their needs for better design of ML-based HSI solutions.
