Control and scheduling theory is integrated to enable the complex control algorithms with varying execution times in embeddedreal-time control systems (ERTCS). A case study of the ERTCS that consists of a set of model predictive controllers is given in this paper. A feedback scheduling approach is presented to optimize the global performance of ERTCS subject to limited computational resource. the scheduling algorithm is shown robust against the varying of execution time of MPC tasks at runtime. Simulation results illustrate its effectiveness.

the real-time CORBA and minimumCORBA specifications are important steps towards defining standard-based middleware which can satisfy real-time requirements in an embedded system. To reach a broad acceptance in the real-time and embedded community, these specifications have to facilitate the utilization of traditional real-time networks for embeddedsystems. the Controller Area Network (CAN) is one of the most important networks in the field of real-timeembeddedsystems. Consequently, this paper presents a CAN-based connection-oriented communication model and its integration into real-time CORBA. In order to make efficient use of the advantages of CAN, we present a new inter-ORB protocol, which uses smaller message headers for CAN and maps the CAN priorities to bands of CORBA priorities. the management of energy consumption in battery-operated embedded and pervasive systems is increasingly important in order to extend battery lifetime or to increase the number of applicationsthat can use the system's resources. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) has been introduced to trade off system performance with energy consumption. For real-timeapplications, systems supporting DVFS have to balance the achieved energy savings withthe deadline constraints of applications. Previous work has used periodic evaluation of an application's progress (e.g., with periodic checkpoints inserted into application code at compile time) to decide if and how much to adjust the frequency or voltage. Our approach builds on this prior work and addresses the overheads associated withthese solutions by replacing periodic checkpoints with iterative checkpoint computations based on predicted best-, average-, and worst-case execution times of real-timeapplications (e.g., obtained through compile-time analysis or profiling).

In this article a survey of the recent trends on Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms for Wireless Networked Controlled systems (WiNCS) is presented. Our objective is to provide a comprehensive view of the various components required for sufficient QoS from a "Networked Controlled systems" point of view. Our interest focuses on ad-hoc wireless networks, due to the increasing adoption for realtime control applications. QoS-requirements have two interpretations: (a) provide the necessary bandwidth for transmission, and (b) ensure that the delay transmission will be bounded. the present survey paper is an attempt to emphasize the QoS mechanisms that might provide efficient solutions in control-related applications. the presented QoS mechanisms are categorized with respect to the classical Open Source Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model (RM) Protocol Stack they are serving;Physical Layer QoS Considerations are introduced, MAC Sub layer solutions are proposed and Network Layer mechanisms outline the current trends in QoS issues. Moreover, although QoS and Networked Controlled systems is a research field still in its infancy, some interesting control-related applications with QoS considerations are presented in order to integrate the current survey and provide motivation for a QoS control dedicated definition.
