embeddedsystems have been developing rapidly, and flash memory technology has become an essential building block because of its shock-resistance, low power consumption, and non-volatile nature. Since flash memory is a write-once and bulk-erase medium, an intelligent allocation algorithm is essential to providing applications efficient storage service. In this paper, we propose three allocation algorithms - a first come first serve (FCFS) method, a first re-arrival first serve (FRFS) method, and an online first re-arrival first serve (OFRFS) method. Both FCFS and OFRFS are online allocation mechanisms which make allocation decision as the requests arrive. the FRFS method, which serves as an offline mechanism, is developed as the standard of performance comparison. the capability of the proposed mechanisms is demonstrated by a series of experiments and simulations. the experimental results indicate that FRFS provide superior performance when the data access pattern is analyzed in advance, and the online OFRFS method provides good performance by run-time estimation of access patterns.

the contribution of this paper is to present a novel and well-experimented middleware service platform and its architecture for service gateway based distributed systems. this is called the MidGate platform. the research problem that the MidGate platform addresses is how to facilitate the development of interoperable applications into heterogeneous and distributed service gateway based environments. the paper is based on the constructive method of analyzing the related research results, technologies, and trial systems. the MidGate platform is a middleware platform that provides communication middleware, a set of generic service elements, and a dynamically reconfigurable service framework to be applied in the development and deployment of distributed applications. the MidGate architecture is defined on the basis of the requirements of realapplications, and it is evaluated in a series of laboratory prototypes reviewed in the paper.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive and dynamic scheduling method, called most fit task first (MFTF), for a class of computational grids, which are characterized by heterogeneous computing nodes and dynamic task arrivals. Some existing static scheduling methods assume that tasks arrive statically and may not perform well in the case of dynamic task arrivals. Our method can get stable task execution times whether tasks arrive statically or dynamically. We compare the task execution time with other methods to show the performance of the scheduling method.

In a peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay network, a large number of peer processes (peers) cooperate by exchanging messages. In multimedia streaming applications like music streaming, multimedia data is required to be efficiently and reliably delivered to processes in a real-time manner. A scalable and reliable streaming service is required in P2P overlay networks since a large number of leaf peers asynchronously issue requests. In this paper, we propose a new model called the asynchronous multi-source streaming (AMSS) model where multiple content peers transmit packets of multimedia contents to each requesting leaf peer. Here, each of the content peers transmits different packets with some redundancy to the peer in order to be tolerant of faulty contents peer and packets lost. Even if some content peers are faulty and packets are lost, each leaf peer can receive all the packets in a real-time manner. Furthermore, even if a large number of leaf peers issue requests, each content peer can support the leaf peers with sufficient content service quality.

Advances in networking and microprocessor technology have enabled the development of a variety of small, low-cost, and resource-limited embeddedsystems. Such an embedded system is often diskless due to the weight, size, and cost of a disk. Because of the availability of inexpensive high-speed network cards, most embeddedsystems are networked, wired or wireless. We propose and implement a memory-based distributed code storage called NFC (networked file cache) for networked diskless embeddedsystems. NFC utilizes and integrates all available memory resources in a network to form a large-scaled code storage to which all applications in all nodes are allowed to access. To efficiently locate a file in NFC, we present a one-hop file lookup algorithm and a set of cache management algorithms dealing with file migrations and replications. In comparison with a client-server approach, the experimental results show that NFC successfully integrates memory resources in a network to significantly extend code storage and reduce file-access time of a diskless embedded system

the advances in mobile robotics, computing power, and wireless communications have turned feasible the development of communities of autonomous robots. In the last years, there is a greater interest in systems of multiple autonomous robots for the accomplishment of cooperative tasks. this project takes it into account and presents an architecture for the development of collaborative applications for a heterogeneous team of mobile robots based on embedded agents. the implemented architecture has the capacity to allow the team of robots to accomplish such tasks, and also it has tools and features that allow programmers to develop complex applications in a reasonable time. An agent-based development platform has been used for this purpose, due to it integrates the necessary capabilities for developing distributed applications, and manages the communications among all the components. To demonstrate the advantages of the architecture a real application, robot following, has been implemented. It consists of a set of embedded agents, which run in real robot systems, demonstrating that embedding agents in distributed intelligent systems is a powerful method for quick application development in the multirobot domain

Vehicle detector system based on image processing technology is a significant domain of ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) applications. Because it has advantages of low installation cost and does not obstruct traffic during the installation of vehicle detection systems on the road. In this paper, we propose architecture for vehicle detection by using image processing. the architecture consists of two main parts: image processing part, using high speed FPGA: decision and calculation part, using CPU. the CPU part takes charge of total system control and synthetic decision of vehicle detection. the part of FPGA takes charge of input and output image using video encoder and decoder, image classification and image memory control.
