In food industry automation, the integration of machine learning with robotic systems can introduce improved efficiency and precision in various tasks such as fruit and vegetable handling and manipulation. this paper introduces an innovative approach to robotic grasping, specifically customized for the challenge of identifying and handling apples and oranges within a dynamic and unstructured environment. Utilizing the YOLO (You Only Look Once) object detection algorithm, the system consists of a camera mounted on the robot's end effector, enabling real-time identification and localization of fruits and vegetables. Implemented on the NVIDIA Jetson platform, this solution presents the combination of machine learning techniques with hardware acceleration, ensuring optimal performance in real-time object recognition and manipulation tasks. Our experimental setup tests the robustness of our object recognition and localization approach under varying lighting and orientation scenarios and evaluates the system's overall performance in a real-world, cluttered environment typical of the food industry. the findings of this study underscore the potential of integrating ML-powered vision systems with hardware-accelerated robotics for food handling and manipulation applications. By demonstrating high levels of accuracy in recognition, classification and grasping, our research contributes to the broader field of robotic automation, offering insights into the scalability and adaptability of such systems across different sectors of the food industry.

Artificial neural networks and their applications in deep learning have recently made an incursion into the field of control. Deep learning techniques in control are often related to optimal control, which relies on the Pontryagin maximum principle or the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. they imply control schemes that are tedious to implement. We show here that the new HEOL setting, resulting from the fusion of the two established approaches, namely differential flatness and model-free control, provides a solution to control problems that is more sober in terms of computational resources. this communication is devoted to the synchronization of the popular Kuramoto's coupled oscillators, which was already considered via artificial neural networks by L. Bttcher et al. (Nature Commun., 2022), where, contrarily to this communication, only the single control variable case is examined. One establishes the flatness of Kuramotos coupled oscillator model with multiplicative control and develops the resulting HEOL control. Unlike many examples, this system reveals singularities that are avoided by a clever generation of phase angle trajectories. the results obtained, verified in simulations, show that it is not only possible to synchronize these oscillators in finite time, and even to follow angular frequency profiles, but also to exhibit robustness concerning model mismatches. To the best of our knowledge that has never been done before. Concluding remarks advocate a viewpoint, which might be traced back to Wiener's cybernetics: control theory belongs to AI. the objective of this work is to design, develop and demonstrate optimized fuzzy controllers for processes presenting nonlinearities such as coreless DC micromotors speed control problems, in order to improve the overall control system performance. One type-1 fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and one type-2 FLC (both Tagashi-Sugeno based) were designed and implemented in real time to improve motor speed control performance. For this purpose, a high-end microcontroller was used in which the developed controllers where embedded. the parameters of the input and the output membership functions of the proposed FLCs were optimally tuned using a well-known optimization algorithm, i.e., the particle swarm optimizer (PSO). A comparison of type-1 and type-2 Tagashi-Sugeno fuzzy control architectures is performed in different experimental scenarios and the relevant results are discussed and analyzed. the results demonstrate that type-2 FLC exhibits very satisfactory motor driving capability, providing zero overshoot, faster rise time and low settling time. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

time-of-flight sensors deliver distance measurements through light propagation timing, facilitating object detection, gesture recognition, and three-dimensional mapping. these sensors maintain functionality across lighting conditions while ensuring response rates required for real-time applications. Based on these properties, combined with their cost and energy consumption parameters, we propose their exploitation in gesture recognition systems for human-robot interaction (HRI). this work presents two contributions: First, we introduce a dataset for gesture recognition tasks. Second, we develop a model for sequence classification optimized for resource constraints. the experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the approach through quantitative evaluation metrics. Finally, we present classification results on the dataset, analyze the model's performance on gesture categories, and discuss future challenges and directions in this field of research.

Approximate computing offers a solution since it is a potential technique to improve area, speed, and reduce power in cases when accurate calculation is not expected. In this work, an unsigned approximate multiplier architecture has been presented for error resilient applications. this architecture is divided into three segments: the least significant component remains constant and maintains the same accuracy, the middle portion, which is a partial product, is simplified using or gates, and the error is compensated utilizing an error correction module. According to results of 8-bit multiplier, 30.9% and 35.33% were reduced of power and power-delay products, respectively, compared state-of-the-art designs without sacrificing accuracy. Finally, proposed design is validated using error resilient applications.

We present a concept of an affordable, wearable smart office system for real-time monitoring of human respiratory rate and posture angle, with incorporated task-management functionality through an RF touch sensor. the respiratory sensor is implemented using a Vivaldi-like antenna, with an operating range within 5.8 GHz band, coupled with an aluminum plate. the posture sensor employs a bendable textile antenna designed for 2.45 GHz band. the principle of operation behind both respiratory and posture sensor is based on resonance shift. User-system interaction is realized using resonator-based touch sensor at 5.8 GHz. All measurements are carried out with nanoVNA, while the processing is done on a personal computer. the work provides insights into the technical aspects and functionalities of the proposed system, paving the way for further research and development in wearable technology for health and lifestyle applications.

this paper endeavors to accomplish Level 4 and Level 5 self-driving by devising a design architecture for cloud-based self-driving vehicles. It incorporates a hybrid positioning navigation method [24, 25] and diverse sensing systems [9, 5, 7, 27] to capture precise environmental information, along with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors and wheel odometry to complement other sensors and improve positioning accuracy and stability [26, 27, 25]. the architecture utilizes a combination of Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET), Internet of Vehicles (IoV), and in-vehicle millimeter wave systems for high-level information communication [9, 8]. To enable real-time monitoring, analysis, and application of vehicle data, the architecture leverages cloud computing, particularly the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform [10, 11], and takes into account data security risks. the research in this paper is important for promoting the development of autonomous driving technology and provides valuable references for research and practical applications in related fields.

Gaze detection and text extraction are pivotal technologies in the domain of human-computer interaction and computer vision, enabling applications such as assistive technologies, user interface optimization, and automated content analysis. this paper presents a novel method that identifies the user’s gaze direction and extracts the necessary portion of text, which constitutes the user’s region of interest, using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) integrated with a spatial attention mechanism. A Density-Based Spatial Clustering of applications with Noise (DBSCAN)-based filter is incorporated into the system to remove textual noise from the extracted image, thereby improving the model’s accuracy and reducing computation time. the proposed method demonstrates reduced dependency on the CNN compared to previous approaches, resulting in enhanced real-time operation capability and lower latency. Computational optimization and real-time performance were thoroughly evaluated, showing that our system not only achieves high accuracy in gaze detection and text extraction but also maintains efficient processing speeds suitable for dynamic applications. this advancement offers significant improvements for applications in assistive technology, educational tools, and interactive media, where precise and efficient gaze detection and text extraction are critical.
