In joint operations, the large volume of battlefield data and the complexity of information can lead to cognitive overload for commanders, making it difficult to focus on key situational issues in real-time. this paper proposes a method for presenting situational hotspots tailored to operational tasks and roles. the method constructs a situational hotspot matrix based on the situational elements and attributes relevant to different operational tasks and roles. It calculates the situational hotspot values using an improved kernel density estimation method and creates a battlefield situational heatmap using a hot-cold color mapping. By integrating this with the battlefield situational map, it provides commanders with a clear visual representation of battlefield hotspots. Experimental results indicate that this method effectively highlights hotspots and improves the efficiency of battlefield situational understanding.

the task of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) finds application in smart homes and assisted living and is mostly approached with machine learning. Sensor data for HAR is often collected and processed by separate devices. Performing the recognition task directly on the sensor device can decrease network traffic and reduce the related energy consumption and privacy concerns. In this work, an intelligent sensor device is developed that performs real-time HAR on an ESP32-S3 microcontroller using ambient audio data. A convolutional neural network to classify human activities is designed and subsequently reduced in size and computation cost in order to enable its inference on the microcontroller. this is achieved with neural architecture search, resulting in multiple simplified model variations. these are tested on the ESP32-S3 and a feasible version is identified.

the demand for smarter devices has pushed embedded systems to their limits, particularly in computationally intensive tasks like image recognition and natural language processing. Hardware accelerators have emerged as a solution, offering significant performance and energy efficiency gains. However, traditional accelerators tied to specific processor architectures suffer from limitations like reduced flexibility and vendor lock-in. this project proposes a hardware accelerator for the K-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) algorithm, leveraging the open-source RISC-V architecture. RISC-V addresses the computational complexity, performance bottlenecks, and energy efficiency challenges of existing kNN implementations. the accelerator is designed with key features such as a customized instruction set, parallelism, pipelining, reduced power consumption, and optimized area utilization. the project aims for efficient use of flip-flops (FFs) and look-up tables (LUTs), ensuring optimal resource *** utilizing RISC-V's flexibility, this project aims to create an efficient hardware accelerator for kNN, enabling real-time processing of large datasets, minimizing energy use, and ensuring scalability across different applications.

this paper presents an extended version of a previously published Bayesian algorithm for the automatic correction of the positions of the equipment on the map with simultaneous mobile object trajectory localization (SLAM) in underground mine environment represented by undirected graph. the proposed extended SLAM algorithm requires much less preliminary data on possible equipment positions and uses an additional resample move algorithm to significantly improve the overall performance.

In the field of wireless power transfer for electric vehicle charging, misalignment and thermal effects can cause a decline in operating efficiency. In this study, a phase control scheme via frequency adaptation is proposed and experimentally validated to restore high efficiency performance. the experiments demonstrate the real-time capabilities of the developed control and its suitability for dynamic applications.

To further improve the capacity of airborne embedded system for dealing with deep learning (DL) applications and reduce overall power consumption, it is necessary to equip Neural Processing Units (NPUs). Comparing with the cloud system, the airborne embedded system usually has a fixed application set, but strict real-time constraints. Unfortunately, the inherent NPU scheduler does not consider the application priority, which cannot provide the sufficient real-time capability for the airborne embedded system. At present, there are few researches on multi-task real-time scheduling for NPUs. therefore, we propose WMDRS, a workload-aware performance model multi-task dynamic-quota real-time scheduling for Neural Processing Units. the NPU performance model based on workload-awareness can accurately predict the remaining execution time of a task, which is running concurrently with other tasks on NPU. the multi-task dynamic-quota real-time scheduling algorithm can provide the approximate preemption by dynamically adjusting NPU computing resources for active applications. In addition, we implement a prototype NPU scheduler without any hardware extension. Furthermore, the proposed NPU performance model and real-time scheduling algorithm are evaluated in realistic application sets. Experimental results demonstrate that WMDRS can achieve low prediction error and high scheduling success ratio.

Fusing Radar and Lidar sensor data can fully utilize their complementary advantages and provide more accurate reconstruction of the surrounding for autonomous driving systems. Surround Radar/Lidar can provide 360° view sampling with the minimal cost, which are promising sensing hardware solutions for autonomous driving systems. However, due to the intrinsic physical constraints, the rotating speed of surround Radar, and thus the frequency to generate Radar data frames, is much lower than surround Lidar. Existing Radar/Lidar fusion methods have to work at the low frequency of surround Radar, which cannot meet the high responsiveness requirement of autonomous driving systems. this paper develops techniques to fuse surround Radar/Lidar with working frequency only limited by the faster surround Lidar instead of the slower surround Radar, based on widely-used object detection model called MVDNet. the basic idea of our approach is simple: we let MVDNet work with temporally unaligned data from Radar/Lidar, so that fusion can take place at any time when a new Lidar data frame arrives, instead of waiting for the slow Radar data frame. However, directly applying MVDNet to temporally unaligned Radar/Lidar data greatly degrades its object detection accuracy. the key information revealed in this paper is that we can achieve high output frequency with little accuracy loss by enhancing the training procedure to explore the temporal redundancy in MVDNet so that it can tolerate the temporal unalignment of input data. We explore several different ways of training enhancement and compare them quantitatively with experiments.

Within present article characteristics of errors definition are being analyzed within coded words of conventional sum codes (Berger Codes). Unrevealed features of earlier unknown errors detection based on self-multiplicity and forms (unidirectional, symmetrical either asymmetrical), were discovered by us, which may be helpful while synthesis of embedded control schemas, for example, by means of Boolean Complement Method. Here we demonstrated, that while implementation of Berger Codes, certain amount of symmetrical as well as asymmetrical plus unidirectional faults within coded words are not being spotted, which considered as a difference compares to prior defined characteristics of malfunction identification within data vectors of Berger Codes only (regarding our abovementioned case, any symmetrical errors are not the matter of identification, but at the same time, any of unidirectional or asymmetrical mistakes are being found, which is useful while errors definition systems synthesis). the share of not traced errors from the entire quantity per Berger Codes with data vectors dimensions r=4...7 is composed of less than 2%, as for Berger Codes with vectors lengths r=8...15, it is even less than 0.5%. the abovementioned factor has significant influence on probabilistic characteristics of errors detection into coded words of Berger Codes: for instance, within prospect of failure absence in single digit order number p=0.9, chance of error identification in coded words Pm is above the value of 0.99 for total noted lengths of data vectors. Application of conventional codes with summation is well thought-out as effective case for embedded control systems synthesis including via Boolean Complement Method, where, data and check digits of coded words are being evaluated by means of diagnostic object itself.

However, due to the complex personnel and environment involved in the development of embedded systems, the development software is difficult to control independently, so it is extremely vulnerable to malicious code implantation attacks. Based on this, this paper focuses on the UCOS real-time operating system, analyzes the security threats faced by the UCOS development environment GCC in the process of precompiling, compiling, assembling and linking, and designs a plug-in-based GCC attack mode, which can implement malicious code implantation attacks on UCOS. . At the same time, a trusted protection framework for embedded real-time systems is proposed. By implementing active control and integrity measurement of firmware, operating systems and applications in embedded real-time systems, the trusted startup of embedded real-time systems is guaranteed and the supply chain stage is independently resisted. malicious code implantation attack.

there is a well-known problem named a Finite State Machine (FSM) synchronization in discrete mathematic or the road coloring problem in graph theory. In such area, Černý-Starke conjecture was solved by Trahtman in 2007. applications of the FSM (herein after in this paper referred to as the Černý FSM) for reliability, safety and dependability can be considered as a new important direction in various domains such as Internet of things and cyber physical systems, embedded electronics and quantum computing, cyber security and resilience etc. this paper discusses ways of the fault tolerant FSM development using Trahtman theorem. the authors investigate the binary Černý FSM with eight states, simulate logic circuit, and formulate problem of the reset paths conserving for some fault model. © 2021 IEEE.
