the emergence of semiconductor technology and applications related to switching devices have caused many problems related to power quality (PQ) such as harmonics, voltage fluctuations and power oscillations. In order to overcome these issues, inverter is connected at distribution end alongside photovoltaic source at DC-bus to enhance the PQ and active power submission to utility grid. the accuracy and performance of grid connected PV systems are depending on performance of control structure. this paper presents, an adaptive algorithm based on variable step size least mean square (VSS-LMS) has been proposed for controlling the distributed static compensator (DSTATCOM). In this structure a new parameter according to the error-based autocorrelation function has been introduced to vary the step size for weight updating process. this adjustment not only maintains the immunity against the external disturbances but also controls the misadjustment and convergence time independently. In the overall control structure, the independent weight of the three phases distorted current have been estimated for further generation of reference current signals. the proposed control methodology is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and tested using real-time simulator. the simulation results under various practical scenarios such as unbalanced loading, sudden loading, harmonic penetration etc. presents the superior performance of proposed methodology.

In this paper, we present the results of performance analysis for the Microsoft Azure virtual machines. the tests used NASA's well known NAS parallel benchmarks for High Performance computing (HPC) applications. Several tests were executed using different HPC cluster configuration. Both computation and communication times were measured to study the effect of Virtual Machines (VMs) computing and networking features on the execution and communication time of the benchmarks. We concluded that the communication behavior of any benchmark or application has the most influence on the HPC cluster configuration selection.

the Internet of things(IoT) is a revolutionary paradigm in Information technology. IoT interconnects the various objects to internet thus being considered as virtual objects. It is considered that the IoT is the next big 'thing' in internet. Internet uses the Internet protocol suite (IP/TCP) by which computer networks are interconnected in order to serve the users worldwide. thus billions of objects which would be provided with a unique identifiers(UID's), will be outfitted using several actuators and sensors and connecting those to internet which can be accessed using technologies like real time services, RFID, embedded sensing etc. IoT aims at improving the quality of human life. It is necessary to transform the cities by improving transportation systems, infrastructure, providing waste management etc. Currently as the internet infrastructure is almost available everywhere, thus the embedded computing device can be exposed to the internet influence. Hence the realtime data can be analyzed and used to create desired outcomes. IoT has wide range of applications like Smart cities, Industrial automation, Smart home applications, healthcare, wearables, agriculture etc.

Data synchronization across tasks and devices are crucial for any system supporting multi-task. the standard lock-based blocking mechanism in the aforementioned process may have unpredictable latency overhead thus is not suitable for real time applications, and is prone to deadlock. As a result, lock-free and wait-free algorithms with worst-case latency and progress assurance are crucial for real time cases. Existing lock-free algorithms need to frequently allocate new storage buffers during execution, and design a series of complex memory recovery strategies and help mechanisms. It results in a high worst-case latency, complicated algorithm design, and poor embedded device adaptability. this work proposes a new lock-free method WRLqueue (write to read lock-free queue) for multi-producer and single consumer situation, which considerably enhances the real-time performance guarantee. Experimental results show that the cyclomatic complexity is reduced by 85% compared with existing algorithms. the worst-case latency of enqueue operation decreases by 90% in the case of no competition and 60% in the case of competition.

With the dawn of the new age of communication, i.e., social media, the world has come into the palms of every individual at every corner of the world. However, easier access to messaging implies easier forms of abuse. As the usage of social media increases, the other side of communication, bullying, also increases. Cyberbullying refers to the concept of harassing individuals or groups through means of the internet with the help of messages or multimedia. Cyberbullying has a huge impact on mental health and research is ongoing in this area to accurately detect bullying text. Existing models are embedded into social media platforms to either ban or apply sanctions on the users involved in the passage of such materials. the proposed study aims to develop a model with a similar approach to detect cyberbullying in comment text. Also, sentiment analysis is performed on the comment text to get an idea of the message’s context, thus improving the chances of bullying detection. the work is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the text and the sentiment score are directly passed to the machine learning models. Later, during the second stage word embedding using Word2Vec, a natural language processing technique, is performed on the comment text to obtain vectorized features which are then given to the machine learning models along with sentiment features. It was observed that the latter model shows high levels of success and that it can be deployed in real-world applications.

Since it involves both classifying and Logisticising objects in a scene, object detection is considered one of the most challenging topics in computer vision. While YOLOv6 is an improved version of the original You Only Look Once model, it is also among the most cutting-edge deep neural network (DNN)-based object identification methods available today. DNNs have recently been proven to attain more extraordinary object identification performance than previous approaches. However, even without a strong GPU, YOLOv6 is still exceedingly fast as compared to its previously released versions and can decide the driving course approximately in real-time. Hence, YOLOv6 is suited in applications to certain embedded systems and smartphones as well which have a major underlying constaints of power usage. To improve traffic sign identification in real time, we are using YOLOv6 and an improved Logistic Regresssion (LR) based classifier in this research. the LR classifier here is used to identify traffic sign classes. We have used the Indian Traffic Sign Detection Benchmark Dataset (ITSDBD) is used to train and evaluate the network whose results are then compared with similar systems proposed in the past.

the threat of quantum computers is real and will require significant resources and time for classical systems and applications to prepare for the remedies against the threat. At the algorithm-level, the two most popular public-key cryptosystems, RSA and ECC, are vulnerable to quantum cryptanalysis using Shor's algorithm, while symmetric key and hash-based cryptosystems are weakened by Grover's algorithm. Less is understood at the implementation layer, where businesses, operations, and other considerations such as time, resources, know-how, and costs can affect the speed, safety, and availability of the applications under threat. We carry out a landscape study of 20 better-known threat modelling methods and identify PASTA, when complemented with Attack Trees and STRIDE, as the most appropriate method to be used for evaluating quantum computing threats on existing systems. We then perform a PASTA threat modelling exercise on a generic Cyber-Physical System (CPS) to demonstrate its efficacy and report our findings. We also include mitigation strategies identified during the threat modelling exercise for CPS owners to adopt.

Semantic segmentation, the task of assigning class labels to each pixel in an image, is fundamental to numerous computer vision applications. this review paper critically analyzes six prominent segmentation architectures: Fully Convolutional Networks (FCN), U-Net, DeepLab, YOLO, SegNet, and Mask R-CNN, with evaluations primarily based on mean Intersection over Union (IoU) scores on the COCO dataset. FCN initiated the development of end - to-end trainable models for pixel-wise classification. U-Net's symmetric encoder-decoder architecture with skip connections has proven highly effective in biomedical image segmentation. DeepLab variants utilize atrous convolutions to enhance dense prediction tasks. YOLO, primarily recognized for real-time object detection, also supports segmentation with a balance of speed and accuracy. SegNet's straight-forward design and computational efficiency make it ideal for resource-constrained environments. Mask R-CNN extends Faster R-CNN by integrating instance seg-mentation with object detection. Performance evaluations reveal mean IoU scores as follows: FCN (0.35-0.55), U-Net (0.50-0.70), DeepLab (0.60-0.80), YOLO (0.55-0.65), SegNet (0.40-0.60), and Mask R-CNN (0.60-0.80). this review provides insights into the strengths, limitations, and application domains of these architectures, assisting researchers and practitioners in selecting appropriate models for specific segmentation tasks.

Due to the limitations of computing resources, battery capacity, and maximum load of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), efficiency is a critical issue in UAV tracking. Deep learning (DL)-based trackers are known for their high precision but hardly achieve real-time tracking on a single CPU. the traditional framework of discriminative correlation filters (DCF) is famous for its high efficiency but its precision is barely satisfactory. Despite the inferior precision, DCF-based trackers rather than DL-based ones are widely adopted in UAV tracking to trade precision for efficiency. this paper aims to trade off efficiency and precision for UAV tracking using model compression techniques (i.e., filter pruning), which has not been well explored before. To combat the possible precision drop caused by pruning, we propose a dynamic channel weighting strategy to improve the rank-based pruning method which uses the average rank of each filter response as the pruning criterion. the dynamic channel weighting seeks to adjust the contribution to the loss of each channel through optimization. As a result, we achieved better precisions when compressing the original model SiamFC++ with a global pruning ratio instead of tedious layer-wise ones. Extensive experiments on four UAV benchmarks, i.e., UAV123@10fps, DTB70, UAVDT, and Vistrone2018, show that the proposed tracker demonstrates a remarkable balance between precision and efficiency. © 2022 the authors and IOS Press.
