Some medical documents must be scanned, stored and then retrieved quickly. this paper presents a design and evaluation of a new scanned medical document management system to meet such requirements. the system is a part of a Hospital Information System (HIS) and utilizes a database server, instead of a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server used in the existing management system. Barcodes and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology are also deployed to identify a medical document before being uploaded to the server. the system was evaluated in twofold. Firstly, the message transfer delays to and from the database server were measured. Secondly, the DeLone and McLean model of information systems success was used to construct a questionnaire to validate the system effectiveness. the evaluation results showed that the upload time of the documents to the database server was 1.34 times faster than that to the FTP server. Similarly, the download time of the documents from the database server was 10 times faster than that from the FTP server. the questionnaires also clearly indicated that real users expressed satisfaction with the system. Hence, the proposed system is faster and effective.

Surround view parking assistant system can use a surrounding 360 degree top-view image to inform the driver. In addition to helping reduce the parking pressure, assisting the driver in reversing, but also to avoid some security incidents, improve the safety of parking. In this paper we focus on the real-time requirements of actual application in embedded surround view parking assistant system. A calibration method is introduced in this paper. the calibration tool is designed in general-purpose computer end, and the data mapping tables can be generated by the tool. In the embedded hardware end, the real-time panoramic video image can be generated by use of the mapping tables. By use of the method introduced in this paper, the hardware of the assistant parking system can meet the real-time requirements of the actual application.

Oxygen levels and heart rate joint monitoring is based on specialized, and most of the times, expensive oximetry devices. According to literature, many studies highlight the necessity of connecting oximetry devises, under well-known wireless protocols, such as Bluetooth, Wifi, ZigBee and others, for more efficient real time monitoring of human bio signals. However, most of the studies indicate a gap regarding an energy efficient and cost - effective end to end system for wireless monitoring of oxygen and heart rates, in IoT medical applications. To this end, our work, focuses on the design of a wireless oximeter device that bases its operation on the integrated and power efficient MAX30100 circuitry, and a customized lightweight ZigBee - based protocol for wireless bio signals transfer.

Consensus and Broadcast are two fundamental problems in distributed computing, whose solutions have several applications. Intuitively, Consensus should be no harder than Broadcast, and this can be rigorously established in several models. Can Consensus be easier than Broadcast? In models that allow noiseless communication, we prove a reduction of (a suitable variant of) Broadcast to binary Consensus, that preserves the communication model and all complexity parameters such as randomness, number of rounds, communication per round, etc., while there is a loss in the success probability of the protocol. Using this reduction, we get, among other applications, the first logarithmic lower bound on the number of rounds needed to achieve Consensus in the uniform Gossip model on the complete graph. the lower bound is tight and, in this model, Consensus and Broadcast are equivalent. We then turn to distributed models with noisy communication channels that have been studied in the context of some bio-inspired systems. In such models, only one noisy bit is exchanged when a communication channel is established between two nodes, and so one cannot easily simulate a noiseless protocol by using error-correcting codes. An Ω(Ε−2n) lower bound is proved by Boczkowski et al. [PLOS Comp. Bio. 2018] on the convergence time of binary Broadcast in one such model (noisy uniform Pull), where Ε is a parameter that measures the amount of noise). We prove an O(Ε−2 log n) upper bound on the convergence time of binary Consensus in such model, thus establishing an exponential complexity gap between Consensus versus Broadcast. We also prove our upper bound above is tight and this implies, for binary Consensus, a further strong complexity gap between noisy uniform Pull and noisy uniform Push. We profile the impact of computation and inter-processor communication on the energy consumption and on the scaling of cortical simulations approaching the real-time regime on distributed computing platforms. Also, the speed and energy consumption of processor architectures typical of standard HPC and embedded platforms are compared. We demonstrate the importance of the design of low-latency interconnect for speed and energy consumption. the cost of cortical simulations is quantified using the Joule per synaptic event metric on both architectures. Reaching efficient real-time on large scale cortical simulations is of increasing relevance for both future bio-inspired artificial intelligence applications and for understanding the cognitive functions of the brain, a scientific quest that will require to embed large scale simulations into highly complex virtual or real worlds. this work stands at the crossroads between the WaveScalES experiment in the Human Brain Project (HBP), which includes the objective of large scale thalamo-cortical simulations of brain states and their transitions, and the ExaNeSt and EuroExa projects, that investigate the design of an ARM-based, low-power High Performance computing (HPC) architecture with a dedicated interconnect scalable to million of cores;simulation of deep sleep Slow Wave Activity (SWA) and Asynchronous aWake (AW) regimes expressed by thalamo-cortical models are among their benchmarks.

Nowadays, autonomous driving and driver assistance applications are being developed at an accelerated pace. this rapid growth is primarily driven by the potential of such smart applications to significantly improve safety on public roads and offer new possibilities for modern transportation concepts. Such indispensable applications typically require wireless connectivity between the vehicles and their surroundings, i.e. roadside infrastructure and cloud services. Nevertheless, such connectivity to external networks exposes the internal systems of individual vehicles to threats from remotely-launched attacks. In this realm, it is highly crucial to identify any misbehavior of the software components which might occur owing to either these threats or even software/hardware malfunctioning. In this paper, we introduce AutoSec, a host-based anomaly detection algorithm which relies on observing four timing parameters of the executed software components to accurately detect malicious behavior on the operating system level. To this end, AutoSec formulates the task of detecting anomalistic executions as a clustering problem. Specifically, AutoSec devises a hybrid clustering algorithm for grouping a set of collected timing traces resulted from executing the legitimate code. During the runtime, AutoSec simply classifies a certain execution as an anomaly, if its timing parameters are distant enough from the boundaries of the predefined clusters. To show the effectiveness of AutoSec, we collected timing traces from a testbed composed of a set of real and virtual control units communicating over a CAN bus. We show that using our proposed AutoSec, compared to baseline methods, we can identify up to 21% less false positives and 18% less false negatives.

A supply chain is getting an advantage from the technology's lucidity, less transaction expenses, and real-time data applications. Internet of things (IoT) and Blockchain technology (BT) has gain remarkable attention by academician and industrial practitioner in recent years as these pair is disrupting a lot of businesses now. BT enables transactional security while IoT connects the physical and digital world with apps and sensors. In this study, a systematic literature review (SLR) is performed to explore the application of integrated IoT-BT in the supply chain and its implementation challenges. the different technologies listed are grouped into the supply chain's five functional fields i.e., responsiveness, intelligence, deductive, surveillance and operational excellence. the result reveals that IoT-BT is mostly used for surveillance purposes and to achieve operational excellence.

this paper proposes some powerful techniques to design and development data packages used for multiple plants embedded wireless digital controller. the system performs data exchanging using master-slave topology, the common one in industrial automation systems. the master and slaves are implemented on low-cost IoT-supported 32-bit microcontroller. the Free-RTOS is used as real-time operating system. All drivers of the master and slave controllers are implemented using C language and mainly preforms bitwise operations to obtain the speed and efficiency of the code execution. the plants used in this research are brushed dc-motors driven by PWM-based bidirectional H-bridge drivers. there are four types of the data packages are proposed. the data packages are designed using bit-representation data formation techniques. the data package design technique requires only one byte for the package header. It can reduce numbers of bytes of data exchanged over network. To archive the real-time control and monitoring capabilities of the system, the WebSockets protocol is selected implemented in all devices, master, slaves and computer. In addition, the proposed system is also evaluated on other protocols, the HTTP and MQTT. the experimental results show that the proposed techniques, system design and data package design, can perform on all communication protocols, no package loss. Using the WebSockets as communication protocol can archive the real-time capability of the system. It means that the proposed system can be implemented in real-world applications, the industrial real-time control monitoring and control systems. © 2019 IEEE.

Hardware implementation of controllers for modular multilevel converter voltage source converters is a non-trivial task, which requires a thorough evaluation of the real-world performance of control hardware. this paper presents a new processor-in-theloop system developed at the University of Manchester which enables real-time evaluation of power converter control algorithms implemented on a target hardware platform from within a PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. the developed system has been used to measure the execution times of sorting algorithms implemented within the capacitor balancing control loop of an MMC. the system is a low-cost alternative to commercial real-time hardware-in-the-loop systems, and can be used to bridge the gap between offline simulation and final controller implementation in hardware. the developed system can be extended to support any control algorithm of interest, implemented on a wide range of target hardware platforms which may include: embedded microcontrollers, digital signal processors, and field-programmable gate arrays. applications include control systems for power electronics connected to power systems including HVDC, renewable energy and smart grids.

embedded systems such as self-driving systems require a computing platform with high computing power and low power consumption. Multi-/many-core platforms satisfy exactly these requirements. However, for hard real-time applications, multiple demands on shared resources can hinder real-time performance. Memory is among the resources that can most dramatically impair the desired performance. therefore, we addressed contentions induced by the shared memory. We improve the predictability of contentions by dividing tasks into the memory access phase and the execution phase using a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG). Existing methods are able to make accurate contention estimations for one Compute Cluster (CC) of a Clustered many-core processor. Our method is able to do the same for multiple CCs, thereby doubling the scalability in consideration of contentions. Using an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation, we produced a static, non-preemptive, partitioned, time-triggered schedule. We also conducted an experiment in order to minimize the makespan. the evaluation confirmed that our new method reduced the makespan by increasing the number of CCs.
