Periodic monitoring of physiological data of inward patients' is a way to keep their health conditions under control. For this purpose, the medical staff record patients' vital signs periodically. Such an approach is exhaustive and may not be safe for patients because in some cases, a slight negligence from health care staff may lead to serious consequences for the patients. this paper suggests a MPI cluster based distributed computing framework in which newly surfaced low cost single board computers called Raspberry Pi is used for continuous monitoring of in-ward patients' vital sign data and sending them to the hospital server for doctors' observation and data logging. Alert signals may be triggered in case of any vital sign data exceeding some predefined dangerous limits. Furthermore, the hospital server can be accessed through Internet for remote monitoring of realtime physiological data.

the increasing complexity of industrial plants requires additional support for operators and service workers. Operators and service workers are employees in the smart factory who perceive and control the production and service processes utilizing an augmented view of the real factory. this augmented view can be realized utilizing mobile and wearable devices that are gaining increased popularity. However, it also requires corresponding wireless network support to enable an unrestricted mobility of the worker. In this paper we describe why wireless radio technology can make a significant contribution to enable new types of augmented reality applications. Moreover, we present and discuss various use cases, requirements, and frameworks for augmented reality applications in industrial environments.

In this work, we examine the resiliency of a state-of-the-art end-to-end video summarization (VS) application that serves as a representative emerging workload in the domain of realtime edge computing. the VS application constitutes key video and image analytic elements that are processed by embeddedsystems aboard unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). real-time performance and energy constraints motivate the consideration of approximations to the VS algorithm. However, mission-critical UAV applications also demand stringent levels of resilience to soft errors that are exacerbated with higher altitude. In this work, we study the effects of three different types of software approximations on the application level resiliency (to soft errors) of the VS algorithm. We show that our approximations yield significant energy savings (up to 68%), with commensurate improvement in performance, without a degradation in the application resilience. Further, by proposing a novel quality metric (appropriate for the UAV vision analytics domain) for the summarized video output, we show that even though the rate of Silent Data Corruptions (SDCs) increases slightly (< 2%), the impact of these SDCs on output quality is limited. thus, we conclude that software approximation can be utilized to achieve significant gains in performance and energy without affecting application resiliency.

this volume highlights new trends and challenges in research on agents and the new digital and knowledge economy, and includes 23 papers classified into the following categories: business process management, agent-based modeling and simulation, and anthropic-oriented computing. All papers were originally presented at the 11thinternational KES conference on Agents and Multi-Agent systems Technologies and applications (KES-AMSTA 2017) held June 2123, 2017 in Vilamoura, Algarve, Portugal. Todays economy is driven by technologies and knowledge. Digital technologies can free, shift and multiply choices, and often intrude on the territory of other industries by providing new ways of conducting business operations and creating value for customers and companies. the topics covered in this volume include software agents, multi-agent systems, agent modeling, mobile and cloud computing, big data analysis, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, social systems, computer embeddedsystems and nature inspired manufacturing, etc., all of which contribute to the modern Digital Economy. the results presented here will be of theoretical and practical value to researchers and industrial practitioners working in the fields of artificial intelligence, collective computational intelligence, innovative business models, the new digital and knowledge economy and, in particular, agent and multi-agent systems, technologies, tools and applications.

embeddedsystems face several area and power consumption constraints in addition to the real-time challenges. this promotes the use of hard-core processors. However, their rigid instruction sets make them unsuitable for some applications. In this paper we propose a new processor design which adds the programmable aspect to a hardwired processor architecture, so that the reuse possibilities are increased.

A recognition framework to identify six full body motion from smartphone sensory data is proposed. the proposed system relies on accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer data to classify user activities into six groups (sitting, standing, lying down, walking, walking up stairs and walking downstairs). the proposed solution is an improvement of a one-verse-one SVM classifier with an ensemble of different learning methods each trained to discriminate a single activity against another. the improvement presented here doesn't only focus on accuracy but also potential embedded implementation capable of performing real-time classification with mobile data from the cloud. the presented one-versus-one approach, based on a linear kernel achieved 97.50 percent accuracy on a public dataset;second best to 98.57 percent reported in literature which uses a polynomial kernel.

the transition to Exascale computing is going to be characterised by an increased range of application classes. In addition to traditional massively parallel "number crunching" applications, new classes are emerging such as real-time HPC and data-intensive scalable computing. Furthermore, Exascale computing is characterised by a "democratisation" of HPC: to fully exploit the capabilities of Exascale-level facilities, HPC is moving towards enabling access to its resources to a wider range of new players, including SMEs, through cloud-based approaches [1]. Finally, the need for much higher energy efficiency is pushing towards deep heterogeneity, widening the range of options for acceleration, moving from the traditional CPU-only organization, to the CPU plus GPU which currently dominates the Green5001, to more complex options including programmable accelerators and even (reconfigurable) hardware accelerators [2].

Leads withthe recent progress and development in the field of robotics and haptic devices, Tactile Internet became the next communication wave after the internet of things (IoT). Far from the traditional Internet in which audio and visual senses can be transferred, Tactile Internet is a new communication paradigm that supports the haptic communications in realtime and provides a new way for the human-to-machine (H2M) communication. there are many challenges associated withthe Tactile Internet, however the 1ms end-to-end latency remains the most *** this work, we provide a better understanding of the Tactile Internet system, by defining the main system parameters, components, design requirements and design challenges of the system. We provide the recent progress for realizing Tactile Internet and the main work introduced to provide appropriate solutions for the design issues. A vision of the Tactile Internet system realization and system applications is introduced. Moreover; we investigate the market reflection on Tactile Internet development and realization and a time plan based on the market progress and the academic research is set, to predict away for the Tactile Internet.
