Numerous design competitions brought new design talents and excellent innovative ideas to the fore. the major request of the review system application is to reduce the burden of manual assessment work. In this study, we attempted to explore the relationship between the indicators of eye movement and the assessment of design works, aiming at developing intelligent methods for evaluating the perception of design works as a primary screening method or providing the suggestion for ranking results. the features of eye-tracking data were extracted to form the fusion dataset. this study applied comprehensive evaluation methods to determine the weights of five kinds of eye movement indicators and obtained the rank values of different design works as the basis of a decision. We compared the experts rating through Kansei engineering approach and the automatic design assessment ranking result based on eye-tracking data modelling. the results proved that the top 20 design works could be successfully ranked within the top 40, which indicated that the computer evaluation results were concordant with the experts' assessment results to a certain extent. the findings suggest that it is promising in evaluating design works through eye-tracking data analysis, and it will improve design assessment efficiency dramatically.

Explaining reasoning and behaviour of artificial intelligent systems to human users becomes increasingly urgent, especially in the field of machine learning. Many recent contributions approach this issue with post-hoc methods, meaning they consider the final system and its outcomes, while the roots of included artefacts are widely neglected. However, we argue in this position paper that there needs to be a stronger focus on the development process. Without insights into specific design decisions and meta information that accrue during the development an accurate explanation of the resulting model is hardly possible. To remedy this situation we propose to increase process transparency by applying provenance methods, which serves also as a basis for increased explainability.

Blended learning (BL) has been evolving as an important approach to teaching and learning in tertiary education. Much research has been conducted on BL implementation in various courses but study on its suitability for engineering education is still lacking. this paper presents student perceptions on the current implementation of BL in engineering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a Malaysian public university. three hundred and sixty-five (365) usable responses were received through an online questionnaire survey conducted at the end of a 14-week semester. Results show that students are more likely to access the e-materials but are less engaged in forum activities. Some students ignore online assessments which do not carry weightage towards course assessments. Overall, students agree that BL is beneficial but less amongst them find it enjoyable. Undergraduate and postgraduate students have slightly varied acceptance towards BL. the four (4) academic divisions in the faculty fair differently but most courses have been recommended by respondents for an internal faculty award. this study provides empirical data pointing towards room of improvement for BL in engineering education. Future work should examine the effectiveness of BL approach based on true attainment of student learning outcomes and graduate attributes.

With the continuous development of web services, the web security becomes more and more important. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack as one of the most common form of attacks, has produced serious economic damages. DDoS attack detection as one of main defense methods is suffered increasing attention by researchers. Most of them use machine learning methods to make good detection performance. However, there are still gaps between real detection rate and expected one, conventional machine learning methods are limited compared with deep learning. In this paper, we propose DAD-MCNN, a multi-channel CNN(MC-CNN) based DDoS attack detection framework, which can fully utilize information from a huge amount of network packages and set up an earlier warning system. Our contributions can be summarized as follows: (1) we propose a new preprocessing method for the network dataset (2) MC-CNN is applied to detect DDoS attack and the detection result is decided by data in respective channels. (3) We use incremental training method to optimize training procedures and time in MC-CNN. (4) the experiment result shows that MC-CNN has the highest accuracy compared with conventional machine learning methods. the result also proves that our approach has performed well not only in DDoS attack detection but also in other anomaly attack detection.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and is the major cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow in a rapid state and out of control. Breast cancer can grow in different parts of the breast and may or may not spread outside the breast. If caught on early stage, the breast cancer can be cured before they spread but if the cancer cells have spread to other parts of the body, usually it is hard to cure. Early diagnosis of breast cancer might help increasing the life-span of cancer affected women. In this paper, a novel method for prediction of breast cancer, that enhances the accuracy using machine learning is proposed using six machine learning algorithms. the unbiased estimates of the algorithms are measured using k-fold cross-validation method. this proposed approach proves to increase the accuracy of traditional machine learning algorithms.

Machine learning is one of the most significant dimensions of artificial Intelligence. It is being used in almost all fields of science and technology. the Healthcare sector is one such realm where the application of machine learning has given excellent results. Moreover, in combination with the Internet of things (IoT), machine learning has been widely successful in the healthcare sector. Still, there are some areas that remain devoid of the growing technology. Mental illness is one of the areas where there hasn't been any perfect treatment. Predicting whether a person has a mental illness itself is the big challenge. Psychologists provide assessment and therapy to their clients with one-on-one physical interactions. Still, there is some ambiguity regarding the treatment. Although psychologists prescribe various medications for their clients like anti-depressants, sleeping pills, etc.; still, the medication hasn't been able to cure or eradicate the sickness. there may be multiple reasons why a person is going through a certain situation like society, work pressure, family, etc. Our research on this topic will be limited to predicting such sickness in the human body and identifying what the person is going through using the previously recorded dataset. We will be using Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor, and Naïve-Bayes algorithms for creating ensemble models and further compare the models. We have applied the proposed algorithms on the Kaggle dataset having 334 sample sizes with 31 different fields about unemployment and mental illness. In the end, the test result of this application can be an authentic example of IoT in healthcare.

Based on conditional gradient, this paper present an accelerated distributed online conditional gradient algorithm denoted by ACCDOCG, which can effectively tackle the high time complexity problem of the distributed online optimization algorithm. the proposed ACCDOCG algorithm allows the network optimization objective function to be decomposed into the sum of the local objective function of each node or agent, and it utilizes the local linear optimization Oracle to replace the projection operation to improve convergence rate of the algorithm. We also theoretically analyze the convergence properties of the algorithm by introducing two types of regret bound. Finally, experimental results are implemented on various tasks, which clearly demonstrates that ACCDOCG works well in practice and compares favorably to existed optimization algorithms.

Anomalous event detection and localization from the crowd is a challenging problem to the computer vision community. It is an important aspect of intelligent video surveillance. Surveillance cameras are set up to monitor anomalous or unusual events. But, the majority of video data, related to normal or usual events, is accessible. thus, analysis and recognition of anomalous events from huge data are very difficult. In this work, an automated system is proposed to identify and localize anomalies at local level. the proposed work is divided into four steps, namely preprocessing, feature extraction, training of stacked autoencoder and anomaly detection and localization. Preprocessing step removes background from video frames. To capture the dynamic nature of foreground objects, magnitude of optical flow is computed. Deep feature representation is obtained over the raw magnitude of optical flow using stacked autoencoder. Autoencoder extracts high-level structural information from motion magnitudes to distinguish between normal and anomalous behaviors. the performance of proposed approach is experimentally evaluated on standard UCSD and UMN dataset developed for anomaly detection. Result of the proposed system demonstrate its usefulness in anomaly detection and localization compared to existing methods. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

Classroom Configuration Identifier (CCID) is an application utilizing AlexNet - an image recognition convolutional neural network (CNN) trained and used for classification of classroom configurations. CCID is currently capable of categorizing footage of Santa Clara University's classrooms as 1. Forward-Facing Lectures 2. Circular or 'U' Shaped Lectures and/or whole class discussions 3. Smaller Group discussions and 4. Empty classrooms with 97% accuracy. Further work on the sub-categorization of these categories is underway. CCID has been developed as a component to an ongoing, larger study into the effects of classroom configuration on student learning outcomes. While CCID specifically deals with the categorical analysis of the classroom configuration itself, the next phases of the study will couple this classroom data with anonymized student data, in order to draw conclusions about the most optimal classroom configurations for enhancing learning. By analyzing correlations between different classroom configurations and corresponding student performance, the study will ultimately be able to supply educators with the information needed to setup more effective learning environments.

Radiology teaching files serve as a reference in the diagnosis process and as a learning resource for radiology residents. Many public teaching file data sources are available online and private in-house repositories are maintained in most hospitals. However, the native interfaces for querying public repositories have limited capabilities. the Integrated Radiology Image Search (IRIS) Engine was designed to combine public data sources and in-house teaching files into a single resource. In this paper, we present and evaluate ranking strategies that prioritize the most relevant teaching files for a query. We quantify query context through a weighted text-based search and with ontology integration. We also incorporate an image-based search that allows finding visually similar teaching files. Finally, we augment text-based search results with image-based search - a hybrid approach that further improves search result relevance. We demonstrate that this novel approach to searching radiology data produces promising results by evaluating it with an expert panel of reviewers and by comparing our search performance against other publicly available search engines.
