Peer-to-Peer (P2P) based direct communication among devices can enhance communication speed and reduce the burden on cloud services in service models involving distributed and cooperative processing. the authors have proposed and developed CYber PHysical Overlay network over Internet Communication (CYPHONIC), which offers a secure communication mechanism based on a P2P model. However, the performance of conventional CYPHONIC clients is limited because they process packets in a single-threaded manner, considering the simplicity of sequential packet processing. this paper presents a redesigned implementation of the CYPHONIC client that supports multi-threaded packet processing. the new client design incorporates a novel processing scheme that emphasizes sequencing mechanisms and concurrency in packet processing, as the order of packet processing is not guaranteed in multi-threaded processing. these improvements have significantly increased end-node throughput and enabled communication delay times to remain constant even as the number of connections increases. © 2023 IEEE.

To improve the task scheduling efficiency in computing power networks, this paper proposes a global task scheduling method based on network measurement and prediction in computing power networks (GTS-MP), which selects a more suitable computing power cluster and storage platform with a higher network availability score between them to implement tasks. the experiments are conducted on a test bench of urban area networks in 12 cities. the results show that this method greatly reduces the execution time of artificial intelligence model training tasks, with a maximum reduction of 40% compared to other plans. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the high costs of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite manufacturing and launch, as well as the complexity of in-orbit network protocol debugging, simulating and verifying satellite network protocols on the ground before satellite launch holds significant importance. Compared to the expensive emulation with one-to-one replication, simulation (e.g., using ns-3) can achieve discrete event processing at a relatively lower cost by extending the wall clock time. However, very few studies have used ns-3 for LEO satellite network simulation, facing challenges such as faithfully simulating the on/off state switching of intersatellite links (ISLs) and achieving simulation performance scalability for high-density satellite constellations. In this work, we propose a system to accelerate mega-scale LEO satellite network simulation in ns-3 via MPI-based parallelization. Specifically, we simulate ISLs based on ns-3's P2P channels/P2P remote channels and achieve run-time link connection/disconnection by implementing stateful traffic dropping inside the network interface. then, we conduct concurrent simulation with ns-3's parallel and distributed simulation capability and partition the satellite constellation into multiple simulation processes through a hierarchical clustering algorithm and automated scripts, considering satellite locality and inter-process workload balance. Our evaluation shows significant speed improvements via parallelization, e.g., a 373% speedup with 12 processes for LEO-192, and a 156% speedup with 3 processes for LEO-3072.

the well-known steered response power-phase transform (SRP-PHAT) algorithm has been demonstrated to be robust under adverse acoustic conditions for single-source localization. When applying this algorithm to the localization of multiple concurrent sound sources, one may encounter a problem that some sources dominate over the others over short time intervals, resulting in fewer significant SRP peaks being found than the true number of sources. this problem makes it difficult to detect all the sources among the available SRP peaks. this paper proposes an iterative SRP approach to jointly estimating the number of sources and their locations in a distributed microphone network. the proposed approach is derived based on the time-frequency (T-F) bins selected by a combination of two weighting schemes, one using the coherence, and the other using signal-to-noise ratio. At each iteration, a dominant source is localized by exploiting the highest SRP peak and its contribution is removed by eliminating the T-F bins that are dominated by this source. When iteration stops, a set of coarse location estimates are obtained, which are further refined by merging the closely located sources based on their distances. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed algorithm to reverberation and noise. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent studies show that smart home devices are vulnerable to passive network observers, referred to as adversaries. An adversary can use mobile devices as a sniffer to infer device events (e.g., a door is opened/closed) even through encrypted WiFi traffic. However, to obtain high event identification accuracy, existing works heavily rely on either machine learning (ML) or large traffic feature sizes, which results in a costly retraining or pairing process. In this paper, we generate an event traffic fingerprint and propose an event identification method with good extensibility. To address the interference of network fluctuations and unrelated traffic, we filter all redundant and event-unrelated packets and extract event packet sequences based on time interval. After processing, we generate a representative packet-level fingerprint for each event and identify the event based on fingerprint matching. the precision and recall of event identification reach 96.77% and 92.31% on average. Our traffic processing method can work as an add-on to existing ML-based event inference methods, which leads to at least 12% increase on the accuracy.

Genome data is high-dimensional, complex data that demands effective data management policies for high-performance results to develop efficient solutions. the protein perspective of this data deals with the proteome, and their basic information to be conceptually categorized, such as the Protein-Protein Interactions, structure, functions, and its processing events. Analyzing the interaction of proteins is vital to studying cell cycle and gene expression regulation, including energy and substance metabolism processes in living bodies, and help understand the role of proteins and their functional connections in biological systems. In this paper, precise ontological development to establish a solid framework for the analysis of protein interactions is performed using Long Short-Term Memory Model with parallel capsule routing. the polypeptide strings are converted into N-grams and LSTMs help co-relate the N-gram motifs within an amino acid sequence. the interactions between the N-gram sequences of each input protein are modeled using capsules and the overall interaction between any two parallel protein sequences is mapped through dynamic routing. the implemented model has performed at a score of 92.1 % accuracy with the Area Under the Curve value at 96.2%.

Massive terminal users have brought explosive need of data residing at edge of overall network. Multiple Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) servers are built in/near base station to meet this need. However, optimal distribution of these servers to multiple users in real time is still a problem. Reinforcement Learning (RL) as a framework to solve interaction problem is a promising solution. In order to apply RL based algorithm into a multi-agent environment, we propose an iterative scheme: select individual users with priorities to interact with the environment iteratively one at a time. Furthermore, we tried to optimize the overall system performance based on this scheme. Hence, we construct three objective system performance indicators: average processing cost, delay and energy consumption, improve the existing Deep Q-learning network (DQN) by using the cost as reward function, changing the fixed exploitation rate into dynamic one that associated with reward and episode time. In order to explore the performance potential of the proposed algorithm, we have simulated the proposed algorithm, DQN algorithm and greedy algorithm under different users and data sizes. the results show that the proposed algorithm had reduced at least 12% of system average processing cost comparing to the greedy algorithm. It also outperform the greedy algorithm and DQN algorithm in delay and energy consumption significantly.

Flow models over flat porous surfaces have applications in natural processes, such as material, food, chemical processing, or mountain mudflow simulations. the development of simplified analytical or numerical models can predict characteristics such as velocity, pressure, deviation length, and even temperature of such flows for geophysical and engineering purposes. In this context, there is considerable interest in theoretical and experimental models. Mathematical models to represent such phenomena for fluid mechanics have continuously been developed and implemented. Given this, we propose a mathematical and simulation model to describe a free-flowing flow parallel to a porous material and its transition zone. the objective of the application is to analyze the influence of the porous matrix on the flow under different matrix properties. We implement a Computational Fluid Dynamics scheme using the Finite Volume Method to simulate and calculate the numerical solutions for case studies. However, computational applications of this type demand high performance, requiring parallel execution techniques. Due to this, it is necessary to modify the sequential version of the code. So, we propose a methodology describing the steps required to adapt and improve the code. this approach decreases 5.3% the execution time of the sequential version of the code. Next, we adopt OpenMP for parallel versions and instantiate parallel code flows and executions on multi-core. We get a speedup of 10.4 by using 12 threads. the paper provides simulations that offer the correct understanding, modeling, and construction of abrupt transitions between free flow and porous media. the process presented here could expand to the simulations of other porous media problems. Furthermore, customized simulations require little processing time, thanks to parallel processing.
