In large, real-time interactive distributed systems such as distributed simulations and Multiplayer games, Interest Management (IM) is often implemented using a cell-based paradigm. In such a paradigm the subscription patterns of interactive clients are mapped on to some set of disjoint regions or cells which are typically hosted within a routing network made up either of dedicated machines or of the clients themselves. these systems often incorporate some mechanism for balancing the load placed on this routing network, on the assumption that interests over this population of cells will be non-uniform. Using a set of reference models for cell-based IM systems found in the research corpus, we evaluate the extent to which this phenomenon takes place. Dynamic load balancing is a key factor in achieving high performance for large scale distributed simulations on grid infrastructures. In a grid environment, the available resources and the simulation's computation and communication behavior may experience run-time critical imbalances. Consequently, an initial static partitioning should be combined with a dynamic load balancing scheme to ensure the high performance of the distributed simulation. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic load balancing scheme for distributed simulations on a grid infrastructure. Our scheme is composed of an online network analyzing service coupled with monitoring agents and a run-time model repartitioning service. We present a hierarchical scalable adaptive JXTA service based scheme and demonstrate through simulation experiments that our proposed scheme exhibits better performance in terms of the simulation execution time.

In this paper, we present a dynamic area of interest management for Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG). Instead of mapping the virtual space to the are of interest (AOI), we scheme AOIs to the virtual space. this zoneless MMOG is the consequence of dynamic AOI that redeems the necessity of inter-AOI communication. In addition, the AOI maintenance cost is reduced significantly by assigning the maintenance responsibility to a subset of players for each AOI. Due to the integration of peer-to-peer communication model to the system, the scalability has improved. To satisfy the timing constraints, the projection of the underling network topology to the overlay network is more fruitful than building the overlay on the fly unintelligently. In response to this fact, the proposed communication model adapts a geometric algorithm which is usually used for minimax problem. the model is evaluated and justified through proper simulation.

In this paper we propose the expected schedulability to characterize the schedulability for the stochastic tasks on a single real-time computer processor Our results show that the stochastic model has more flexibility to characterize the real-time tasks than the deterministic Model. the expected schedulability is related to the real-time t at tasks arrival and may show that a sub-set of task would be scheduled (it any given real-time interval. the numerical analysis based on our theoretic results is consistent with the simulation analysis. Both numerical and simulation results show that the tasks would be scheduled for real-time tasks in real-time systems if the traffic load is less than a specific value which is more than 69%, which was provided in some deterministic situations. this observation implies that the expected schedulability based on the stochastic model would provide a bigger threshold for the real-time tasks to be scheduled.

We have previously proposed PTIDES (Programming Temporally Integrated distributed Embedded Systems), a discrete-event framework that binds real-time with model lime at sensors, actuators, and network interfaces. In this experimental effort we focus on performance issues and tradeoffs in PTIDES implementation. We address event processing performance with respect to other distributed discrete-event approaches that can be applied in a similar setting. the procedure is experimentally, evaluated on a distributed setup with standard software and networking components.

P2P systems have witnessed phenomenal development in recent years. Evaluating and analysing new and existing algorithms and techniques is a key, issue for developers of P2P systems. In this context, simulation is an important tool for P2P developers. However, such systems are often very large and few existing simulators offer the ability to execute simulations with an Internet scale. In this paper we utilize parallel discrete event simulation simulation techniques for executing large scale simulation simulation techniques for executing large sclae simulation of P2P systems which sclae effectively, only limited by the amount of comutational resource available (memory and CPU). We show results from a number of P2P protocols, indicating goood scalability both in terms of size (memory) and execution time (CPU). the results demonstrate how the differences of these protocols and which of the underlaying factors affect the performance of the distributed simulation infrastructure.

simulation is becoming an increasingly important technique for what-if analysis in the context of (real-time) decision making applications. Consequently quick delivery of simulation outputs to end-users (or applications) is a core objective. One approach for high performance simulation consists of exploiting parallel techniques, where the simulation model is partitioned into objects (or Logical Processes), concurrently executing events on different CPUs and/or multiple CPU-Cores. For this ON of simulation systems, a further run-time improvement arose from the exploitation of event uncertainty, both in time and space, which has lead to more flexible synchronization protocols. Although this approach can provide significant performance gains, one drawback is the risk of less reliable simulation results due to potential bias induced by the mechanisms for resolving the uncertainty, which are some-times exclusively targeted to run-time effectiveness. In this article we focus on space uncertain simulation events in optimistic parallel simulation and introduce a mechanism that, compared to previous approaches, allows trading-off execution speed vs reliability of simulation results. In other words, our target is the achievement of high performance while controlling, at the same time, the bias introduced by space uncertainty on the simulation output.

As an emergence technology, P2P is spreading to distributed simulation area, and many distributed simulation frameworks have used P2P as the middleware to interconnect their existing single processor's simulators to fibrin distributed environments for simulation execution. In terms of simulation time management, most existing tools use a middleware layer to implement and support time management in a heterogeneous networking environment. and therefore, it is generally not easy, v to migrate a single processors simulation to multi-processors in these frameworks. In this paper, we present a P2P based distributed simulation time management based upon JXTA API and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and we focus our discussion on how we implement the time management as a JXTA peer and a JXTA group service. Our time management is actually, a native distributed message passing management framework, and does not rely on any middleware layer. Furthermore, we evaluate the performance of our implementations using a local Linux cluster. this work will establish a solid foundation for the more advanced distributed simulation services that have been proposed in our project [1].

Compartments play an important role in molecular and cell biology modeling, which motivated the development of BETA-BINDERS, a formalism which is an extension of the pi-CALCULUS. To execute BETA-BINDERS models, sophisticated simulators are required to ensure a sound and efficient execution. Parallel and distributed simulation represents one means to achieve the later. However, stochastically schedules events hamper the definition of look aheads for a conservative parallel synchronization scheme, while an optimistic parallel simulation implies expensive roll-back operations due to the dynamic structures of BETA-BINDERS models. therefore, a time-bounded window approach is suggested, which allows the different logical processes to proceed optimistically up to a barrier. Rollbacks are thus temporally constrained. In addition, the dynamic structure of BETA-BINDERS models requires a special state handling. BETA-BINDERS models and states are represented as tree structures to facilitate state updates and roll-backs by the simulation engine.

Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems (DDDAS), systems with online simulations models fed with sensorial data from the environment, are increasingly;being used for emergency, management strategic planning. this paper describes an approach to establish the communication and exchange information among the many subsystems composing a DDDAS using the High Level Architecture (HLA) infrastructure's services. We present the LAViE-3D, a framework that generates Web-based simulation front-ends using 3D graphics to manage and control HLA-compliant distributed simulations. the LAViE-3D framework uses open-source software and is designed to make it easier to implement and deploy visualization applications on different platforms with customizable interface for simulations runtime control and management.
