In isogeometric anlaysis, parameterization of computational domain has great effects as mesh generation in finite element analysis. In this paper, based on the concept of harmonic map from the computational domain to parametric domain, a variational approach is proposed to construct the parameterization of computational domain for 2D is geometric analysis. Different from the previous elliptic mesh generation method in finite element analysis, the proposed method focus on is geometric version, and converts the elliptic PDE into a nonlinear optimization problem. A regular term is integrated into the optimization formulation to achieve more uniform grid near convex(concave) parts of the boundary. Several examples are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method. © 2011 IEEE.

this paper investigates the convergence of an algorithm geometrically interpolating a given polygon using uniform quadratic and cubic B-splines respectively. the geometric interpolation method views the polygon itself as the initial guess of the control polygon of the B-spline and reduces the approximate error by iteratively updating the control points with the deviation from the interpolated vertices to their nearest foot points on the current B-spline curve. We demonstrate that the algorithm usually does not converge if the nearest points are searched on the whole curve and present a sufficient condition under which the algorithm is convergent, for quadratic and cubic B-splines respectively. Furthermore, we introduce a new strategy to update the control points incrementally. Experiments show that though our condition constrains the search range of the nearest points, it can still produce interpolation curves with the same high quality as the original method. © 2011 IEEE.

this paper presents an efficient method to reconstruct an implicit surface from a point cloud based on adaptive clustering. First, a novel approach, based on a hierarchical clustering tree with variation and normal constraints, is proposed for normal estimation of the point cloud. It simplifies the point cloud and reduces the amount of direction propagation paths in normal orientation. Second, an implicit surface is computed from the clustering tree by a feature preserving method, using adaptive plane fitting that considers the local feature and sharp areas of the point cloud. Finally, the results demonstrate the efficiency of our method for open, closed and unorganized models, and show that the resulting surfaces preserve the sharp features. © 2011 IEEE.

In augmented reality, consistent illumination plays an important role when integrating a virtual object into a video of real scene. In this paper, we propose a novel image based framework to estimateon-line the dynamic ally changing illumination parameters of outdoor video sequences captured by a fixed camera. Unlike previous approaches which either request to know the scene geometry or involve huge storage to preserve time dependent basis images or statistic parameters, our approach requires very simple interaction at the initialization stage by a few brushes to select areas with specified surface normal, which are used to calculate the sunlight parameters. An optimization procedure is also applied, ensuring the robustness and precision of our estimation. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of the proposed approach. © 2011 IEEE.

Simulating the local behavior of small pedestrian groups among a crowd is an emerging problem. Small groups are commonly found in general crowds and their behavior aresignificantly distinguished from that of individual pedestrians. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to simulate the walking behavior of such small groups. We construct dynamic group formations which not only facilitate easy communication between members within the same group but also adapt to the environment constraint. Moreover, an extended collision avoidance algorithm based on Optimal Reciprocal Collision Avoidance (ORCA) is proposed taking into account the factors of group cohesion and reaction ?exibility so as to generate diverse interaction behavior between walkers. Several examples demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

Delaunay triangulation and Voronoi diagram are widely used in computer graphics, computational geometry and other fields. Different from the planar case, Delaunay triangulation of a point set on smooth 2-manifolds does not always exist. In this paper we propose a new sampling requirement combining the maximal curvature, injectivity radius and convexity radius to guarantee the existence of Delaunay triangulation on 2-manifolds. After introducing the primal/dual efficient representation (PDER) structure [26], we develop a generalized PDER which not only represents Delaunay/Voronoi dual simply and efficiently, but also describes the surfaces with boundaries. Taking advantage of several operators for modeling and updating models, we employ generalized PDER to construct and operate Delaunay/Voronoi dual dynamically on smooth 2-manifolds. the generalized PDER is also a powerful tool for dual subdivision schemes. Many examples demonstrate the feasibility of our method and the generalized PDER. © 2011 IEEE.

Based on globally supported radial basis functions, this paper presents a hierarchical approach to 3D scattered data interpolation. Given a scattered data set distributed along a surface, we first obtain a sparse approximation of the scattered data set by filtering the scattered data with two different steps, and identify the characteristic points by the measurements of bounding cube and the distance between the points and the interpolating surface. then using multi-level hierarchy of point sets, the accuracy of interpolating surface can be gradually improved. On the basis of effective selection of the off-surface normal points, the number of constraint conditions is reduced, and trivial solutions of the interpolating equations can be avoided. Above all, we can identify the characteristic points in the model with less data points, and obtain interpolating surface with higher fitting accuracy by solving equations with lower order. the numerical experiments show that the method is more efficient and easy to implement. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we present an efficient framework to deform polygonal models for skeleton-driven animation. Standard solutions of skeleton-driven animation, such as linear blend skinning, require intensive artist intervention and focus on primary deformations. the proposed approach can generate both low- and high-frequency surface motions such as muscle deformation and vibrations with little user intervention. Given a surface mesh, we construct a lattice of cubic cells embracing the mesh and we apply lattice-based smooth skinning to drive the surface primary deformation with volume preservation. Lattice shape matching with dynamic particles, in the meantime, is utilized for secondary deformations. Due to the highly parallel lattice structure, the proposed method is liable to GPU computation. Our results show that it is adequate to vividly real-time animation. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a novel 2D-3D hybrid video stabilization method which combines virtues of 2D and 3D video stabilization methods in one routine. It attempts to achieve high-quality camera motions and to retain full frame coherence in each frame, at while, ensure that local regions undergo a similarity transformation. We solve the stabilization problem by integrating 3D and 2D video stabilization methods into one routine. It smooths camera motions and explicitly employs local motion information which constraints video frames to be temporal coherent, and achieves high-quality video stabilization. Experiments s how t hat our method not only can achieve high-quality camera motion on good 3D reconstructed scene, but also can deal with complicated videos containing near, large moving objects. © 2011 IEEE.

this paper presents an automatic video highlighting approach in relation to a soccer match video lasting over ninety minutes, in which only the match video and the target length of the highlight video are required for the composition. Firstly, we propose a core-around event model, which represents the highlight as a complex event and consists of three components: semantic relations, temporal relationship among the activities and local motion appearance of each activity. Secondly, we detect activities involved in a highlight in the soccer match video by the local motion appearance. thirdly, a candidate highlight video segment is aligned with the model by a specific kernel activity extracted on the basis of the semantic relations, and then assigned a matching score. Finally, we splice together the highlight segments of high matching score. Experimental results demonstrate that the composed highlight videos are attractive episodes of soccer matches, and similar to those edited by professional editors. © 2011 IEEE.
