Recently, applications that deliver customized content to end-users, e.g., digital objects on top of a video stream, depending on information such as their current physical location, usage patterns, personal data, etc., have become extremely popular. Despite their promising future, some concerns still exist with respect to the proper use of such space-sensitive applications (S-Apps) inside independently-run physical spaces, e.g., schools, museums, hospitals, memorials, etc. Based on the idea that innovative technologies should be paired with novel (and effective) security measures, this paper proposes space-sensitive access control (SSAC), an approach for restricting space-sensitive functionality in such independently-run physical spaces, allowing for the specification, evaluation and enforcement of rich and flexible authorization policies, which, besides meeting the specific needs for S-Apps, are also intended to avoid the need for interruptions in their normal use as well as repetitive policy updates, thus providing a convenient solution for both policy makers and end-users. We present a theoretical model, a proof-of-concept S-App, and a supporting API framework, which facilitate the policy crafting, storage, retrieval and evaluation processes, as well as the enforcement of authorization decisions. In addition, we present a performance case study depicting our proof-of-concept S-App in a set of realistic scenarios, as well as a user study which resulted in 90% of participants being able to understand and write authorization policies using our approach, and 93% of them also recognizing the need for restricting functionality in the context of emerging space-sensitive technologies, thus providing evidence that encourages the adoption of SSAC in practice.

Internet-of-things (IoT) is a rapidly-growing transformative expansion of the Internet with increasing influence on our daily life. Since the number of "things" is expected to soon surpass human population, control and automation of IoT devices has received considerable attention from academia and industry. Cross-platform collaboration is highly desirable for better user experience due to fragmentation of user needs and vendor products with time. Centralized approaches have been used to build federated trust among platforms and devices, but limit diversity and scalability. We propose a decentralized trust framework, called IoT Passport, for cross-platform collaborations using blockchain technology. IoT Passport is motivated by the familiar use of passports for international travel but with greater dynamism. It enables platforms to establish arbitrary trust relations with each other containing specific rules for intended collaborations, enforced by a combination of smart contracts. Each interaction among devices is signed by the participants and recorded on the blockchain. the records are utilized as attributes for authorization and as proofs of incentive plans. this approach incorporates the preferences of participating platforms and end users, and opens new avenues for collaborative edge computing as well as research on blockchain-based access control mechanism for IoT environments.

A study is aimed at development and research of mathematical models and algorithms for traffic flows control in urban road networks. An optimal control problem statement for traffic flows in urban networks is given. A feature of the problem is that the model of control object is presented in finite-difference equations. A control is constrained by the durations of active phases of traffic lights at intersections. the solution is a control program that determines the moments for phase switching. A variational genetic algorithm is used to solve the problem. (C) 2019 the Authors. Recent cyber attacks have shown that the leakage/stealing of big data may result in enormous monetary loss and damage to organizational reputation, and increased identity theft risks for individuals. Furthermore, in the age of big data, protecting the security and privacy of stored data is paramount for maintaining public trust, and getting the full value from the collected data. In this talk, we first discuss the unique security and privacy challenges arise due to big data and the NoSQL systems designed to analyze big data. Also we discuss our proposed SecureDL system that is built on top of existing NoSQL databases such as Hadoop and Spark and designed as a data access broker where each request submitted by a user app is automatically captured. these captured requests are logged, analyzed and then modified (if needed) to conform with security and privacy policies (e.g., [5]), and submitted to underlying NoSQL database. Furthermore, SecureDL can allow organizations to audit their big data usage to prevent data misuse and comply with various privacy regulations [2]. SecureDL is totally transparent from the user point of view and does not require any change to the user's code and/or the underlying NoSQL database systems. therefore, it can be deployed on existing NoSQL databases. Later on, we discuss how to add additional security layer for protecting big data using encryption techniques (e.g., [1, 3, 4]). Especially, we discuss our work on leveraging the modern hardware based trusted execution environments (TEEs) such as Intel SGX for secure encrypted data processing. We also discuss how to provide a simple, secure and high level language based framework that is suitable for enabling generic data analytics for non-security experts who do not have security concepts such as "oblivious execution". Hybrid technology of intelligent control of autonomous and anthropocentric on-board systems is proposed. It is based on non-clausal prover for automatic reasoning and combines symbolic knowledge representation and processing with other control methods. If a control task is not provided with all necessary means of its solving, the prover is able to deduce conditions for the task solvability and to ask another intelligent agents for the missing means to continue the control task solving. Since a logical approach can lead to non-unique solutions, e.g., in the problems of target pursuit in the operative area, then also non-logical models and optimization procedures are used. Automated vehicles are one of the most popular trends of modern R&D in the automotive industry. However autonomous driving is impossible without such electronic systems as Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability control (ESC). Real-time monitoring of road traffic variables is essential for any effective control strategy in Intelligent Transportation Systems. Network-wide monitoring has increased importance in the current and future panorama due to the verge of adoption of smart mobility technologies, i.e. monitoring all links in a network is a general desired goal. However, installation and maintenance of sensors across the whole network are not cost-effective. therefore, traffic networks are frequently suffering from the lack of well-operating and reliable traffic detectors. the paper proposes the employment of neural networks based models to virtualize the measurements on road links without detectors. the proposed method applies the measurements of monitored links as input to the deep learning model in order to estimate virtual measurements on the unmonitored road links. Several neural network models differing in architecture (Artificial Neural Network, Time Lagged Neural Network and Long Short Term Memory Neural Network) have been implemented and their hyper-parameterization were optimized using Bayesian search. the prediction techniques were developed and tested by using microscopic road traffic simulation.

Vital data monitoring helps us to scientifically understand health condition and physical ability of exercisers. In this paper, we focus on wireless sensor network (WSN) periodically collecting vital data from sensor nodes attached to a large number of exercisers with multi-hop transmissions. In order to realize reliable data collections in high-mobility environments, a multi-hop access protocol (MAP), which employs time division multiple access (TDMA) based data transmissions with flooding-aided route construction, has been proposed. For increasing the number of supported nodes with the conventional MAP, it is necessary to utilize multi-channel communications, which suppresses the number of operating nodes per channel. However, the reduction of operating nodes at each channel increases the number of isolated nodes that have no neighboring node employing the same channel within their communication ranges. therefore, this paper proposes autonomous channel selection based MAP (ACS-MAP), which reduces the duration for each node to be in isolated state by introducing autonomous channel selection/switch conducted by isolated nodes. With computer simulations, we investigate the effectiveness of the proposed ACS-MAP.

the propose of this work is to evolve the studies on neuromorphic circuits by simulating transistors models that look the most with the ones used in commercial process. Since most of data about company models contain a restricted access, some universities provide predictions models to reproduce the real ones. In this paper we present a silicon analog integrate and fire neuron (I&F), proposed by G. Indiveri as a part of a neuromorphic device. Using 32nm CMOS technology simulated in LTspice with BSIM4v4 and applying predictive parameters provides by Predictive Technology Model (PTM), we were able to reduce the source power, to 0.9V, and chip size of the latest design which was implemented using a 180nm CMOS process at 1.8 power supply.

We show how complex privacy requirements can be represented and processed by an extended model of Attribute Based access control (ABAC), working with a simple database applications pattern. During application model development, most likely based on UML (e.g. Use Case, Class Diagrams), the analyst and possibly the end user specifies ABAC permissions, and then verifies their effect by running queries on the target data. the ABAC model supports positive and negative permissions, 'break glass' overrides of negative permissions, and message/alert generation. the permissions combining algorithms are based on relational database optimisation, and permissions processing is implemented by query modification, producing structurally-optimised queries in an SQL-like language;the queries can then be processed by many database and big data systems. the method and models have been implemented in a prototype Privacy Preferences Tool in collaboration with a large medical records development, and we discuss experiences with focus group evaluations of this tool. © 2019 IEEE.
