this article describes the results of a pilot training program for the Self-Made education project, with an emphasis on the "Tools to Support Managerial Decision-Making"learning route. the program aims to offer small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) with cost-effective decision-making tools. Almost 100 participants attended the training across 14 seminars. Despite only 18 individuals providing feedback through the post-training questionnaire, in-person interviews further corroborated these results. the findings reveal that, while participants were satisfied with the usefulness and gained knowledge, they would preferred less theoretical content in favor of more targeted, hands-on content that could addressed their individual business objectives. these findings provide useful insights for tailoring future training programs to match the expectations and needs of SMEs. © 2024 the Authors. Advances in intensive care have improved the survival rate of patients with severe acute brain injury, but diagnostic errors for patients with disorders of consciousness are still high. Accurate diagnosis of these patients is very important because effective treatment can vary depending on the diagnosis. In this study, we propose a framework for classifying unresponsive wakefulness syndrome and minimally conscious state, focusing on awareness. In particular, power spectral density and common spatial patterns were used together, considering that spatial information is a key feature in consciousness. the 16 patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome and 14 with minimally conscious state underwent resting-state electroencephalography measurements. In addition, we compared the performance by utilizing each frequency (delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma bands) related to consciousness. As a result, the highest accuracy of 95.06% was achieved by the EEGNet classifier, especially in the beta frequency band. We demonstrated that spatial information is very important in consciousness, as we observed that classification performance improved when common spatial patterns were used. these results provide insight into various frameworks for diagnosing patients with disorders of consciousness and may help patients survive by increasing the diagnosis rate in the future. © 2025 IEEE.

Geometry problem solving (GPS) is an important research direction in artificial intelligence. Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of neural solvers in GPS. However, they are deficiencies in accurately representing spatial relationships of geometric primitives within visually rich geometric diagrams. this paper presents a novel neural solver termed spatial-aware neural solver (SANS) that can perceive spatial relationships between geometric primitives. SANS includes two new modules: multimodal dual-branch spatial awareness pre-trained language module and point-primitive spatial-aware attention module. the pre-training module employs a dual-branch visual-textual point-matching strategy to align visual and textual points, and utilizes semantic structure pre-training to model global relationships. Additionally, the point-primitive spatial awareness attention module enhances the model’s ability to perceive spatial relationships between geometric primitives by accounting for the relative positions of points. Experiments show that SANS achieves 81.5 and 74.1 of accuracy on the Geometry3K and PGPS9K datasets. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the paper describes a sensor system utilising Ultra Wide Band (UWB) ultrasonic beacons to emulate ionising radiation intensity mapping within complex environments. By strategically deploying a UWB beacon onto a robot platform and integrating this with its onboard systems, and by positioning stationary ground beacons around the environment, it is possible to emulate synthetic ionising radiation intensity. this involves setting up a system that can estimate the robot position based on distances to each beacon, and subsequently applying the inverse square law to determine radiation intensity. the system will provide continuous radiation intensity estimates as the robot navigates its environment, providing a suitable simulation alternative to an ionising radiation detector that requires the use of radioactive sources. through experimental validation and calibration, the accuracy of radiation intensity calculations is verified, showing reliable performance in comparison to currently utilised technologies. Finally, an example deployment and the achieved performance is shown demonstrating the possible application of the technology. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the Hajj and the Umrah are the two main pilgrimages that Muslims make to Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Umrah can be done at any time, while Hajj takes place from the 8th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah. the Hajj is considered the largest annual assembly in the world, is obligatory for every physically and financially capable Muslim at least once. During the Hajj, pilgrims travel 15 kilometers using a variety of transportation modes. the journey begins in Mina, the world's largest tent city, which houses more than 10,000 fire-resistant tents. Every year, approximately three million Muslims from more than 183 countries participate. thus, this research aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR) application that assists pilgrims in recognizing important sites and rituals during the Hajj pilgrimage. Furthermore, the system improves pilgrimage planning by assisting with accommodation selection and route optimization, as well as integrating national ID and mobile verification for secure identification. Also, it offers reminder notifications in Arabic and English as well as a trip planning tool to assist pilgrims in efficiently managing their time. Additionally, a specialized dashboard assists healthcare professionals and organizations, while a streamlined interface ensures effective communication with the Adahi software. User feedback mechanisms enable data-driven improvements, resulting in better decisionmaking and overall user satisfaction.

White matter alterations are increasingly implicated in neurological diseases and their progression. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) has been included in many international-scale studies to identify alterations in white matter microstructure and connectivity. Yet, quantitative investigation of DW-MRI data is hindered by a lack of consistency due to variations in acquisition protocols, sites, and scanners. Specifically, there is a need to harmonize the preprocessing of DW-MRI datasets to ensure that compatible and reproducible quantitative metrics are derived from each site, including (1) bundle-wise microstructure measures, (2) features of white matter fiber bundles, and (3) connectomics measures. In the MICCAI CDMRI 2023 QuantConn challenge, participants are provided raw data from the same individuals taken with two different acquisition protocols on a single 4 tesla scanner in the same scanning session and asked to preprocess the data in order to minimize acquisition differences while retaining biological variation. Here, we outline the testing framework, provide baseline pre-harmonized results, and discuss the learning implications of this challenge. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Based on the systematic development of a curriculum for our undergraduate computer science units, an analysis of general education and CSE literature and consultation with other computer science educators, a taxonomy of task types in computing is proposed. these task types are related to one another in a hierarchical fashion based on their cognitive interdependencies. the taxonomy can be applied by academics to guide the development of curriculum that meets student process based learning needs rather than just content needs, the latter being the current norm.

Reading has traditionally been seen as an essential component in learning, especially at the university level. However, many instructors in higher education, especially in technical courses, do not emphasize reading or try to evaluate it. In this abstract we present an automated system designed to measure and improve reading comprehension and describe preliminary results using the system.
