In this paper, a computationally efficient direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm without subspace decomposition is presented with a uniform linear array (ULA). the ULA is divided into two sub-arrays and two noise-free cross-correlation matrices are computed using the data vectors received by the two sub-arrays. By rearranging the elements of a vector formed from the new constructed cross-correlation matrix, an equivalent noise subspace is obtained and the expensive subspace decomposition process is efficiently avoided. Numerical simulations are conducted to substantiate the effectiveness of the proposed method, and it is shown that the new technique can provide good performances with a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and with a small number of snapshots.

the paper deals with improving the accuracy of the sensors under influence of non-informative factors. there are described the generalized block diagram of the data acquisition system and its measurement channels which provide the sensors signal processing. the generalized block diagram of the calculation process is proposed, and the structure of used neural networks is shown. Both scheme and algorithm of data processing are described. the measurement error of the proposed system was evaluated. It confirmed that proposed system adds the error of 0.32% which is very small in comparison with the etalon mean of 1%. the proposed system allows use of the sensors with a significant influence of non-informative factors.

Radars strongly depend upon the reflected echoes to identity targets of interest on unknown locations in the surrounding environment. If multiple waves impinge on a linear array from the same direction, but different ranges than it is not possible for a phased array radar (PAR) to localize the targets and suppress the unwanted signals. In this paper, we propose a new idea for localizing, tracking and suppressing the unwanted returns of these type of target constellations, using cognitive radar properties hybridized with a frequency diverse array (FDA) radar having non-uniform frequency increments. the proposed receiver estimates the direction of arrival and ranges of targets using multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. As FDA uses a small frequency increment to generate a range angle dependent pattern, therefore the proposed design computes a suitable set of non-uniform frequency increments using genetic algorithm (GA) to synthesize an FDA beam pattern with power peaks at desired position and nulls at the interferer range value.

In urban and littoral environments, a wide variety of moving objects such as vehicles, birds, ultralights, drones, and small aircraft may lead to a large number of closely spaced radar detections that can cause severe problems in the tracking process such as false tracks, merged tracks and track loss. By extracting non-kinematic features such as micro-Doppler signatures or 1-D or 2-D spatial target images from the radar signal, the radar detections can be classified in different target classes to mitigate the problems in the tracking process and improve situation awareness. However, micro-Doppler signature analysis and high resolution imaging techniques need a long time-on-target that may be incompatible with the large number of targets in urban or littoral environments. Furthermore, micro-Doppler features are not always observable and target images can be distorted by moving parts and multipath on the target body. In this paper, range-Doppler imaging for air target classification is assessed.

For an implantable system for the recording of brain signals from neonatal mice the design specifications for the weight and the size of a implantable system are very tough. the animals are very small and light weight (1-3 cm, 2-3 g) and the recording data rate is very high (3,5 Mbit/s). thus, the system has to be extremely small. With state of the art technique it is not possible to set up a wireless implantable system that is suitable for a neonatal mouse. thus a wired system is developed. For the wired system the connector is a size limiting factor. In wired transmission systems single ended and differential signalling are available. Differential signalling is more robust against noise disturbances, single ended transmission is beneficial with respect to a minimum number of wires and chip area. A detailed comparison of the suitability of both transmission types for wired implantable systems has been performed. A Serial Peripheral Interface connection with Reed Solomon Encoder connection has been implemented. Reed Solomon Error Correction is used to correct the errors occurring on the wired transmission line. Measurements of data rate and error rate for single ended and differential signalling have been performed for long cables (up to 1.8 m). It could be shown that single ended transmission is favourable for the desired application. For the detection and correction of errors occurring on high speed Serial Peripheral Interface Reed Solomon decoding on FPGA was used. this particular decoder design has capability of correcting up to 2 symbol errors on a packet of data composed of 9 symbols where each symbol is 4 bits long. Complete error correction takes about 65 clock cycles on a speed up to 100 MHz.

In the application of SAR moving targets imaging, typical algorithms are generally complex, requiring powerful floating-point computing ability and a lot of time. Starting with analysis of the error of conventional still targets imaging algorithms, this paper designs a moving targets imaging algorithm by error compensation and motion parameters estimation. this algorithm is simple but efficient, and easily parallelized as well. therefore, we implement the algorithm based on the widely used Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA) platform and test this implementation with data acquired from real SAR system. Tests prove the effectiveness of this algorithm and the implementation on CUDA shows very high computational efficiency. For every testing moving target, the implementation is able to finish the imaging processing within one second.

In this paper, we aim to address the issue that semi-supervised learning is prone to be influenced by the quality and quantity of initial seeds. In order to expand the initial labeled data, we select credible samples from unlabeled data by a proposed bilateral latent information miner. the miner can extract information from unlabeled data for both positive and negative class respectively. then we train a semi-supervised sentiment learner with the expanded labeled data. Experiments show that the proposed method can achieve a better and more robust performance than other methods, especially when initial labeled data is randomly selected in a small size.

During an ambush it is very important to identify the direction of attack for retaliation. A gunshot localizer in this scenario can alert the troops of the incoming bullet. Firing of a gun produces a high sound pressure which can be used for locating the shooting position. Such devices also find application in high security areas to listen for any probable attacks. For detecting and localizing a gunshot, an array of microphones connected to a data Acquisition and processing Unit is employed. the microphones listen to acoustical events and the associated system continuously looks for any signal of interest. Following the signal detection Time Difference of Arrival of the sound at the different microphones are processed to extract the positional information of a gunshot. the positional information comprises of Azimuth, Elevation and Range of the source of gunfire relative to the sensor array. We at CDAC, Trivandrum have developed an Acoustic Gun Shot Detector for small fire arms and extensive field trials were conducted for system evaluation at firing ranges. this paper presents an analysis of the Acoustical Characteristics of small firearms based on the recorded data and test results of field trials.
