Based on saliency and grayscale morphological reconstruction, a new detection algorithm for infrared dim and small targets is proposed in this paper. the saliency of the original image to obtain the region of interest(ROI) is analyzed, then the spatial domain characteristic of dim and small targets is introduced into the marker image. Grayscale morphological reconstruction is based on the marker image and the mask image(the original image). Because saliency efficiently concentrates the gradient difference of the targets, detection probability is improved also with little false alarms. As the role of recognition, spatial domain characteristic of target reduces false alarm probability with the same detection probability, and background can be well estimated by grayscale morphological reconstruction, after subtraction, dim and small targets are detected. Experiments of real data prove the better detection performance, especially higher signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).

this paper is devoted to the localisation problem of acoustic-magnetic sources moving in straight line at constant speed. Our technique is based on the association of Acoustic Doppler and Magnetostatic Methods. the objective of this study is to achieve localisation with only one sensor performing both frequency and magnetic measurements. the set of possible location is shown to be a circle since no angular information is available. the subsequent developments describe an Extended Kalman Filter with a linear observation equation to perform maximum performance in case of poor initialisation. the filter convergence is actually ensured when tested with simulated signals. A small residual bias on the velocity estimate is however noticed due to the non linearity of the prediction equation. © 2015 European signal processing conference, EUSIPCO. All rights reserved.

Many applications based on variable speed drives require motors to be installed in remote locations, sometimes even inaccessible. this is the case, for example, in oil extraction on subsea environment and underground mining. this paper aims the proposition of an analysis of the applicability of Power Line Communication, when used for data transmission between the supervisory system and remote systems, in an application based on static frequency converters, using the converter DC link as a transmission medium. For this purpose, computational models for the DC link cable and an experimental prototype on a small scale have been developed, enabling the analysis of quantitative and qualitative parameters related to the quality of communication achieved. Finally, the results show that the proposed scheme is feasible, which is a good option for reducing costs and increasing simplicity of installation, particularly in situations where the actuator is located on inaccessible places. the main contribution of this paper is an analysis of PLC remote communication for three-phase motor-inverter drive applications. the high frequency data was modulated into the DC-link power line in order to reduce cost and the proposed method was validated experimentally.

this paper focuses on small target of sea surface detection in sea clutter. Firstly, it analyses the statistic of sea clutter. Secondly, three feature vectors (namely, RAA, RPH and RVE) are extracted, which is utilized to discriminate the sea clutter and targets, and then the time-Doppler curve is used to distinguish the multi-targets in order to finish the small target of sea surface detection. Finally, it analyses the trial data of some radar and shows that this algorithm can effectively distinguish the sea clutter and small target of sea surface. this paper provides a new approach for the ship-borne surveillance radar or marine radar to detect the small target of sea surface and antisubmarine warfare patrol.

the calculation of marginal association probabilities is the major computational bottleneck in the Joint Probabilistic data Association Filter (JPDAF). In this paper, we investigate approximations for the marginal associations that simplify the (computational complex) original association model in order to obtain efficient algorithms. In this context, we first discuss the Bakhtiar-Alavi algorithm and the Linear Multitarget Integrated Probabilistic data Association (LMIPDA) algorithm. Second, we propose a fast novel approximation that exploits systematic combinations of the JPDAF measurement model with the Probabilistic Multi-Hypothesis Tracker (PMHT) measurement model. the discussed methods are evaluated by means of a tracking scenario with a high number of closely-spaced targets.

A novel system for estimating the attitude (orientation) of a platform using measurements of Low Frequency (LF) radio signals is reported. the sensor system consists of an array of three orthogonal solenoid coil antennas, a three channel radio receiver circuit, a datalogging and control module and data processing algorithms. Traditional low-cost attitude estimation systems typically combine accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes, but produce estimates that are sensitive to platform acceleration. this is a particular problem in high-acceleration, cost-constrained environments such as small fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. the system presented here is shown to accurately measure the axis of polarisation for signals with linear or almost linear polarisation, subject to a sign ambiguity. A representative AM radio broadcast in the LF band is shown to have a substantially linear polarisation, which is used to provide information about the sensor's attitude and shown to exhibit no drift over a period of 24 hours.

the paper deals with the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) analysis of quasi-stationary regimes (with small variations of magnitude and harmonic contents) in three-phase systems. the analyzed data, acquired on stand, correspond to a driving system using chopper and DC motor. Unfiltered currents are included in the first data set, unlike those from the second set. the harmonic orders to be filtered (5,7,11,13 etc.) were determined using a FFT analysis. 10 levels decompositions using DWT were made, using Daubechy filters of length 8, implemented by 2 functions. "dwm" assumes that the analyzed signal is periodic, whilst "dwi" performs interpolations to estimate the first 6 values of the decomposed signal beyond its right edge. During analysis, FFT is applied over one period P, whilst DWT operates over 6 consecutive periods starting with P. the analysis concerns instantaneous and global power quality related quantities and provides possible explanations for the cases when differences appear between the results yielded by the various analyzed methods.

We are developing methods to model transcription using mRNA expression (RNA-Seq) and RNA polymerase (pol-II ChIP-Seq) time course data. In our first application we model the motion of RNA polymerase during pre-mRNA elongation. We model the pol-II dynamics by using a spatio-temporal Gaussian process to described changes in pol-II density profiles across sites of the transcribed region [1]. We apply our model to infer the elongation speed and promoter-proximal pol-II activity for early targets of estrogen receptor in MCF7 breast cancer cells. Bayesian methods are used to infer the model parameters and associate our parameter estimates with levels of confidence. By clustering the inferred promoter-proximal pol-II activity profiles we can associate early-activated target genes with specific transcription factor binding *** our second application we link the pol-II dynamics with mRNA production and degradation in the same system using a simple linear differential equation. We again represent the pol-II dynamics as a Gaussian process and are able to exactly compute the data likelihood by exploiting the fact that a linear operation on a Gaussian process remains a Gaussian process. We find that for a certain number of target genes it is necessary to include an RNA-processing delay to get a reasonable fit to the data. We use Bayesian inference to infer the delay parameter and identify genes with strong evidence of a significant delay, about 11% of the genes where the signal is strong enough to fit the model. this delay appears to be related to splicing: we find that short genes tend to exhibit longer splicing-associated delay and there is also a positive association with genes that have a relatively long final intron. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Intelligent terminals often produce a large number of data packets of small lengths. For these packets, it is inefficient to follow the conventional medium access control (MAC) protocols because they lead to poor utilization of service resources. We propose a novel multiple access scheme that targets massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems based on compressive sensing (CS). We employ block precoding in the time domain to enable the simultaneous transmissions of many users, which could be even more than the number of receive antennas at the base station. We develop a block-sparse system model and adopt the block orthogonal matching pursuit (BOMP) algorithm to recover the transmitted signals. Conditions for data recovery guarantees are identified and numerical results demonstrate that our scheme is efficient for uplink small packet transmission.
