the paper describes a method for automated small-signal frequency response analysis based on transient response obtained using a general-purpose simulation tool such as Spice. the method is based on using the simulation tool to evaluate the converter impulse response. the main advantage of the proposed method as a design verification tool is that frequency responses can be generated efficiently for any converter configuration and any model complexity supported by the general-purpose simulator. Application examples are included to demonstrate very good correlation between the generated responses and experimental data, and to compare the results with predictions of approximate analytical methods.

In this paper we describe a novel data association algorithm, termed m-best SD, that determines in O(mSkn(3)) time (m assignments, S lists of size n, k relaxations) the m-best solutions to an SD assignment problem. this algorithm is applied to the following problem. Given line of sight (i.e., incomplete position) measurements from S sensors, sets of complete position measurements are extracted, namely, the 1-st, 2-nd,... m-th best (in terms of likelihood) sets of composite measurements are determined solving a static SD assignment problem. Utilizing the joint likelihood functions used to determine the m-best SD assignment solutions, the composite measurements are then quantified with a probability of being correct using a JPDA-like technique. Lists of composite measurements from successive scans, along with their corresponding probabilities, are then used in turn with a state estimator in a dynamic 2D assignment algorithm to estimate the states of the moving targets over time. the dynamic assignment cost coefficients are based on a likelihood function that incorporates the "true" composite measurement probabilities obtained from the (static) m-best SD assignment solutions. We demonstrate this algorithm on a multitarget passive sensor track formation and maintenance problem, consisting of multiple time samples of line of sight (LOS) measurements originating from multiple (S = 7) synchronized high frequency direction finding sensors. Another significance of this work is that the m-best SD assignment algorithm (in a sliding window mode) provides for an efficient implementation of a Multiple Hypothesis Tracking (MHT) algorithm by obviating the need for a brute force enumeration of an exponential number of joint hypotheses.

In order to make the detector perform robustly, an intuitive solution can be obtained by censoring the clutter observations from large and small deriations. In recent studies, censoring techniques have been implemented using order statistics (OS) and trimmed mean (TM) methods. In order to utilizing censored data, we present a quasi best weighted (QBW) order statistics method resulting in an improved detection performance while censoring outliers. Under the assumption of Swerling II target and Rayleigh distributed clutter, the analytic expressions of Pfa, Pd and ADT are derived. the analytic results show that an improved performance over TM is obtained both in homogeneous background and in clutter edges situation, and QBW exhibits robustness in multiple interfering targets environment. In specific cases, QBW reduces to CMLD.

In the paper a problem of estimation of target position in a modern DSP-based radar system is considered. the processes of target detection and estimation are separated. Raw radar data supplied to the detection block are buffered in large RAM memory and then partially post-processed by the estimation block in areas nearby detected targets. Such an approach allows for more elaborate estimation algorithms than using joint detection and estimation. We have adopted curve-fitting procedures for both azimuth and range estimation. Simulation results prove good performance even for small signal to noise ratios.

An approach for realizing filter-banks having improved side-lobe performance compared to approaches based on Inverse-Fourier-Transforms (IFTs), especially for greater frequency differences from the pass-band frequencies, is presented. the approach is based on using a weighted-sum of near-adjacent IFT filters to realize the individual channel-bank filters, but with a constraint added that results in significantly-improved stop-band performance. the proposed channel-banks are suitable for realizing multi-tone digital data-communication systems, such as Asymmetric-Digital-Subscriber-Line (ADSL) systems. Better stop-band performance has been shown in a previous approach, based on the use of Wavelet Transforms, to affect improved performance of ADSL systems. the filters reported here offer further improved stop-band performance compared to those reported in [7] for similar orders. Under the conditions of maximal decimation, the reconstruction is not perfect, but aliasing errors are small-enough to be negligible in most practical communication systems. For some cases, the filter coefficients can be calculated exactly without using optimization. For other cases, a single simplified optimization suffices independent of the filter order.

Subspace fitting has become a well known method to identify FIR single input multiple output (SIMO) systems, only resorting to second-order statistics. the main drawback of this method is its computational cost, due to the eigencomposition of the sample covariance matrix. We propose a scheme that solves the subspace fitting problem without using the eigendecomposition of the cited matrix. the approach is based on the observation that the signal subspace is also the column space of the noise-free covariance matrix. We suggest a two-step procedure. In the first step, the column space is generated by arbitrary combinations of the columns. In the second step, this column space estimate is refined by optimally combining the columns using the channel estimate resulting from the first step. Our method only requires computation of two eigenvectors of a small matrix and of two projection matrices, although yielding the same performance as the usual subspace fitting.

this paper presents a method for improving speech recognition in noisy environment by using neural networks. Two multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) are used. the first MLP minimises the difference between noisy and clean speech and the second one measures the degree of noise in the speech signal and adjusts the time interval between subsequent frames of the processed speech signal accordingly. If we use the technique presented in this paper as a pre-processing stage of a speech recognition system we can extend the application of the system to different environments without re-training it. We need only to train the preprocessing stage with a small portion of noisy data which is created by conducting part of the original clean speech database used for training the speech recognizer through the desired environment. there is no need for creating a new database in the desired working environment. Our method was tested on a vowel spotting system, and is trained with two well known databases: TIMIT and NTIMIT. the evaluation of the system through a vowel spotting process, shows a significant improvement of the recognition rate of the system.
