DC micro-grids (DCMGs) have recently attracted the attention of many researchers because of their advantages over AC micro-grids. One of the most important aspects of any electrical network is its protection. With the expansion of DCMGs, their protection has become one of the most challenging issues. Due to the differences between AC and DC micro-grids, new methods are needed to protect DCMGs. Besides, due to the greater complexity of the ring DCMG than the radial DCMG, more robust protection methods are required to protect ring DCMG. With the progress in artificial intelligence, this paper introduces a safeguard system that utilizes the support vector machine (SVM) machine learning algorithm and radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) to identify faults and pinpoint their location. In the proposed scheme, only the buses voltages are used and it is not necessary to measure other micro-grid parameters, which reduces the number of metering equipment and consequently makes the protection scheme more cost-effective. this paper utilizes DIgSILENT software to simulate the ring DCMG, while MATLAB software is employed to train and test the RBFNN and SVM machine learning algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

this systematic literature review scrutinizes the role of Predictive Learning Analytics (PLA) in higher education from 2017 to 2023. Anchored by the PRISMA flowchart, the methodology involved a rigorous selection process from databases such as IEEE Xplore, Sage, ACM Digital Library, PubMed, Scopus, and ERIC. this systematic literature review filtered the studies based on inclusion criteria: peer-reviewed articles published in English, with full texts available, and excluded non-peer-reviewed sources, non-English publications, and those lacking definitive outcomes. the review addresses four questions in HEI's: the labeling and definition of PLA, its impact on student success, its role in enhancing teaching practices, and its influence on administrative functions. From the initial 142 records, 17 studies met the criteria, providing a comprehensive insight into PLA's role in shaping the academic landscape. the findings indicate that PLA is labeled as a strategic tool for leveraging student data to forecast and enhance learning outcomes. the analysis reveals PLA's significant contribution to student success through early identification of at-risk students and personalized intervention strategies. Furthermore, PLA has been instrumental in refining teaching methods and providing actionable insights to educators. For administrators, PLA informs resource allocation, curriculum development, and policy-making. this review emphasizes the transformative potential of PLA in optimizing higher education outcomes, signifying a paradigm shift towards data-driven educational strategies © 2024 IEEE.

the research on winding fault diagnosis of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) has received great attention from scholars in recent years. However, most current research requires manual feature extraction, which places high demands on researchers’ prior knowledge, signal processing theory and practical experience. Base on this, this paper proposes a diagnosis method for winding faults in the PMSM using 1D convolutional neural network (1D-CNN). Firstly, the harmonic components of the zero-sequence voltage signal between the neutral points of the three-phase windings and the resistance network are analysed. Secondly, the experimental data of the zero-sequence voltage under different operation states and winding conditions are collected. After pre-processed by data normalizing and segmenting, the 80% databases are used to train and validate the fault diagnosis model using 1D-CNN for zero-sequence voltage signal treatment, and the remained databases are applied to test the generalization performance of the fault diagnosis model. the proposed method can achieve winding fault diagnosis of the PMSM under variable speed and load states in high accuracy without the requirement of extracting fault features manually. © the Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Improper sitting posture is a common issue affecting many individuals, even young ones. Prolonged periods of sitting, whether at work, studying, or at home, can lead to back pain and other health problems. the study focused on the software's material specifications and system flow required to create the system. the engineering design process involved using real-time image processing and force-sensitive resistors to determine the posture of the user. the human pose estimation method was used to estimate the body model parameters. the study found that familiarity with different hardware and software is important to create the project easily. the force-sensitive resistor provided high-accuracy results, but factors such as distortion can affect the outcome when using the camera. the mathematical model created by the researchers produced accurate results. the system helps users maintain proper sitting posture and monitor their improper sitting behavior history and records. Future research could consider the use of other components for more reliable use and delve into the safety of the different components used. Improvements to the camera holder, position, and power source could also enhance project efficiency. Overall, the development of a sitting posture notification and monitoring system can aid in preventing the negative effects of improper posture and promote better health practices for individuals who spend prolonged periods sitting. © 2023 IEEE.

Augmented reality (AR)-based indoor guidance is gaining popularity in various industries. With AR's capability to connect to other devices and perform innovative tasks, technological firms are investing heavily in its development. At the beginning of each semester, university students often struggle to navigate the campus, relying on maps or seeking help from others. this project addresses the need for an AR-based indoor navigation app specifically for Block QB, Faculty of Electrical and Electronic engineering (FKEE), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UthM). the proposed method addresses a shortest path planning problem in a multi-story building in a computationally efficient way by adopting an A∗ algorithm. the app incorporates the A∗ algorithm to ensure users can find the fastest and most accurate routes. the indoor navigation app was successfully developed for Android users utilizing the 3D Unity software. It gives users with real-time, precise guidance within the three-story Block QB FKEE building. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, DC micro-grids (DCMGs) have become a subject of interest to researchers. One of the obstacles in the development of DCMGs is the protection of such micro-grids. Due to the fundamental differences between AC and DC micro-grids, the proposed protection methods for AC micro-grids are not suitable for DCMGs and therefore new protection methods should be provided. So far, many protection methods have been proposed for DCMGs, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Due to the advances made in artificial intelligence, in this paper, a protection scheme for a ring DCMG based on machine learning algorithms and neural networks (NNs) is presented that is able to detect the occurrence of the fault and determine its location. In addition, the performance of the proposed protection scheme is evaluated in the event that one of the lines is out of service, which causes the micro-grid to get radial, and also in the event that the output power of one of the distributed generation sources (DGs) is reduced. In this paper, DIgSILENT software is used to simulate DCMG, and MATLAB software is used to train and test NNs and machine learning algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

Collecting consistent human demonstrations has been a problematic issue in the field of a learning from demonstration. this paper presents a twin dual-arm robot testbed to collect human demonstration data while performing manual tasks in the activities of daily livings such as opening/closing a window, opening-up/closing-down a sauce bottle cap, etc. the testbed consists of the two sets of a dual-arm robot;for each robot, one-side arm has 6-DoF with a crab-gripper as its hand. Two dual-arm robots are mounted at the front and back of a table-type station. A human operator performs actions to complete a given task with the one at the back;the human operator's actions, meanwhile, are duplicated by the other robot at the front simultaneously. the experimental results show the testbed's potential to gather consistent human demonstration data for training a machine learning agent to manipulate the dual-arm robot under an imitation learning framework. © 2024 IEEE.

the demand for hardware-oriented skills among the students of software engineering (SE) has experienced significant growth due to recent breakthroughs in cutting-edge technologies such as Internet of things (IoT), semiconductor technologies, and immersive technologies. However, the traditional teaching approaches rely more on programming concepts, algorithm development, software design, and testing rather than instilling hardware-oriented concepts such as embedded systems in students. Research plays a crucial role in the process of product design and development, encompassing both software and hardware components, with the aim of effectively addressing user-centric needs. thus, the introduction of research concepts in undergraduate programs becomes more pivotal in today's learning context and makes students employable. this paper focuses on the relevance of research-integrated project-based learning for hardware-intensive courses in an engineering course. this experiential study focused on embedded system development SIT210 being taught to SE students with the added objective of inculcating higher-order thinking skills among engineering graduates. the research quotient was gradually introduced and incorporated in a systematic manner over a span of three years, and this paper presents a reflective analysis of the experiential journey. the integrated approach revealed an improved degree of engagement and learning among students. In addition, a research quotient paves the way for further studies, research options, and cultivates their critical thinking enabling them to explore alternative solutions to meet the needs of the community. © 2024 IEEE.

thermoelectric Generator (TEG) is an essential semiconductor gadget that give rise to electrical current for voltage devices by converting heat flow and the hotness difference between two edges of the thermoelectric Generator device. Conventionally, a thermoelectric Generator is useful for small power utilization. When the electrical load matches with the inner resistance of the thermoelectric Generator, it generates topmost power. However, coordination with impedance cannot be sure in every circumstance. As a consequence, thermoelectric Generator (TEG) serve at lesser efficiency. Due to these consequences, different maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms are practiced. In this suggested task we modeled the thermoelectric Generator (TEG) system and simulated the system with two different MPPT algorithms. this task mainly highlights the making use of waste heat generated from various spots like automotive exhaust, bakehouse, kitchen oven, pastry shop, hot water pipes, solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, body heats, etc. which commonly is not taken into deliberation. the proposed model is combined with three different parts of constituent particularly the thermoelectric Generator (TEG), charge controller and load. the entire specimen has been authenticated through MATLAB Simulinkbased software results. the topmost power from the TEG is acquired actively by perturb and observe ( P&O) and variable fractional order Fuzzy logic (VFOLC) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms. © 2024 IEEE.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of software engineering, Microservice Architecture (MSA) has emerged as a pivotal approach, renowned for its modular structure, operational efficiency, scalability, and flexibility. Despite the extensive research on MSA development, and numerous studies dedicated to evaluating the maintainability of object-oriented programs, the focus on the quality of microservice-based systems remains notably limited. this study introduces an innovative model for evaluating the maintainability of microservices, a key element in MSA. Our approach, grounded in code metrics analysis, aligns with the ISO/IEC 250xy standards SQuaRE (System and software Quality Requirements and Evaluation). It specifically targets testability and modifiability, integral components of maintainability. We carefully chose essential code metrics that precisely encapsulate the varied characteristics of MSA. the model employs clustering algorithms to categorize the quality characteristics of MSA into three distinct groups: low, medium and high. Our project's primary goal is to identify microservices with low maintainability values. Our methodology was applied to a range of open-source MSA-designed applications, demonstrating its effectiveness and yielding promising outcomes. In our results, we achieved a recall of 83.33% and a precision of 71.43%. this research contributes a novel viewpoint in assessing microservice maintainability and offers a valuable resource for software architects and developers. It aims to improve the overall quality and longevity of software systems within the MSA. © 2024 Owner/Author.
