Steady state simulation is used to study long-run behavior. Usually only the expected value of the steady state probability distribution function is estimated. In many cases quantiles of this distribution are of higher interest. In this paper a new usage of quantile estimators is proposed, which is derived from mean value analysis and is based on multiple independent replications. the advantage in using multiple independent replications is discussed, especially their ability to detect the steady state phase of quantiles.

this paper presents the simulator CINSim. It was particularly developed to investigate network behavior during a dynamic reconfiguration. Besides the reconfiguration, the main features are the support of various traffic distributions in time and in space. thus, multifractal traffic can be modeled as well as local traffic or multicast traffic.

Accurate measurement data are crucial for correct understanding of traffic. Ever increasing bandwidth pushes the requirements for measurement equipment beyond pure SW/PC solutions. We developed a scalable architecture of a hardware-supported, passive measurement platform, the I2MP, for high-precision traffic measurement for gigabit Ethernet with flexible filter possibilities and intelligent selection of the cutting area within a frame. In this paper, this platform will be presented.

this paper describes a fully automated approach to statistically derive and run test cases. In this process scenario descriptions are used to construct an automata-based usage model as the test model responsible for the generation of test cases. Besides others, performance issues are considered and it is explained how to integrate these into the derivation of test cases. the whole process is based on the UML 2.0 and TTCN-3, two new versions of leading standards in software engineering and testing. Time and performance extensions are covered by the UML SPT-Profile and by TimedTTCN-3, respectively.

In this paper, the problem of supporting a set of real time communication groups in a meshed core network is studied. Such kind of network is typically the backbone of an industrial control network, in which static routing for all communication groups is calculated off line and end-to-end delay bounds required by applications must be guaranteed. In this paper, we will analyze the performance of the popular WFQ scheduler based on the theory of network calculus. Combined with genetic algorithm as our routing selection algorithm, an optimized traffic engineering methodology is presented and its performance is evaluated in this paper.
