Direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is considered as promising portable power supply at hectowatt level due to its low working temperature and high energy density. this article investigates a sliding mode control to generate stable operating methanol concentration for DMFC system by considering energy conversion efficiency according to different load demands. the model of DMFC system is established to describe the material flow as well as output performance. To achieve the maximum energy conversion efficiency under the required power demand, the reference methanol concentration is determined by analyzing the DMFC system output power as well as the reaction/crossover methanol flow rate. the sliding mode algorithm is adopted to track reference methanol concentration and the simulation results show that compared with fixed methanol concentration (e.g., concentration of 0.3 mo1/L and 0.4 mol/L), the proposed optimal methanol concentration can increase the energy conversion efficiency by 2.3% and 5.6%, as well as reduce the methanol consumption by 8.6% and 18.9% respectively. © 2023 ieee.

this paper proposes a neural adaptive fixed-time consensus control approach for the nonlinear multi-agent system (MAS) with prescribed performance. First, by employing an error transformation, a prescribed performance consensus control strategy is presented, which can steer the consensus errors to the predetermined range in a fixed time. then, the unknown nonlinear functions are approximated by utilizing neural networks and the adaptive backstepping technique. Meanwhile, a first-order filter is adopted to avoid taking derivatives of the virtual controller. With the proposed strategy, all signals of the MAS remain bounded and the fixed-time leader-following consensus control performance is ensured. Finally, these results are illustrated by simulations. © 2023 ieee.

In this paper, we integrate wireless powered communication networks (WPCNs) with cognitive radio networks (CRNs) in order to develop wireless powered CRNs (WP-CRNs). the hybrid access point (HAP) is used to broadcast radio-frequency signals to the devices at the downlink stage, and to receive information from these devices. the HAP has two antennas to achieve full-duplex: one is for downlink wireless power transfer and the other is for receiving uplink information transmission from the users simultaneously in the uplink. In the underlay paradigms. the SUs can harvest energy to transmit data when the interference to primary users (PUs) does not exceed a tolerable threshold. To tackle the above network issues, an optimal resource allocation method is proposed to maximize the secondary system uplink throughput. the optimization problem with respect to time and power allocation is formulated including the constraint of energy causality and interference level. the non-convex problem is transformed into an equivalent convex optimization problem, then the joint optimal power and time allocation (JOPTA) algorithm is presented to determine the optimal solutions. the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified in the simulations. © 2023 ieee.

this paper considers the course tracking control of an unmanned surface vehicle with state and input quantization, aiming to saving communication resources and improving system efficiency. the radial basis function neural network (RBF-NN) is used to approximate the model uncertainty. A linear analytical model is used to describe the input quantization process. the adaptive neural network quantization controller does not need the prior information of quantization parameters. then the stability of the unquantized system and the boundedness of the quantification error in the closed-loop control system are proved by means of some lemmas. On this basis, the stability of the designed system with state and input quantization is proved. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm are verified by simulation experiments. © 2023 ieee.

Aerial manipulation is an emerging area of research that is experiencing rapid growth and has immense potential across various domains, including precision agriculture, construction, and search and rescue operations. the combination of quadrotor with manipulation capabilities can provide access to remote or hazardous areas, precise control over tasks, and increased efficiency and safety in operations. However, traditional aerial manipulation platforms equipped with rigid manipulators have such drawbacks greater weight and less safety. Consequently, a novel complaint aerial manipulation system is considered to be developed. In this paper, a novel structure of an aerial manipulation platform with a single-section continuum manipulator is developed. In order to address the center-of-mass displacement resulting from manipulator movements, a sliding mode controller is introduced as a means to ensure the quadrotor's flight remains smooth. Afterward, the Lyapunov theorem is employed to ensure stability of the entire closed-loop system. Subsequently, numerical simulations are carried out to showcase the superior performance of the proposed control scheme in comparison to the PD controller. © 2023 ieee.

control of users' access to the information system is the main part of the security system. Moreover, it must work in real time and be easily reconfigured. Such controller can be built by using fuzzy logic. In this paper, the authors propose a fuzzy controller for access distribution to the student assessment system. this approach allows applying the proposed fuzzy controller to any evaluation system, as it can be easily reconfigured. Hardware implementation of this controller allows to increase the stability of the information security system because of subjectivity exclusion. © 2023 ieee.

With the large-scale and long-distance grid connection of offshore wind farms via MMC-HVDC, the operating characteristics of power systems have become more complex. the interaction between wind power generation equipment and the power system has caused new sub-synchronous oscillations, which seriously threaten the safety and stability of the power grid. Taking the offshore wind farms connected to the power grid via MMC-HVDC, this paper analyzes the mechanism of oscillation and proposes an adaptive robust control method of battery storage systems to suppress power oscillations. Finally, the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control strategy are verified on the PSCAD simulation platform. © 2023 ieee.

this paper presents our initial work on how emotion based behaviors may emerge through computational mechanisms. We hold that in addition to basic emotions such as anger and fear that serves bodily well being of the organism, high level emotions such as boredom and affection have evolved to facilitate low cost brain computations. Higher level of emotions can be considered as affective state of the organism or mood, rather than the reflex-like physiologically triggered emotional responses such as fear and anger. In large and complex brains (e.g. primate brains), the neuronal energy consumption for cognition is non-negligible. We propose that for such organisms computational regulatory mechanisms for decision making give rise to behaviors that can be explained by various emotional states. As a proof of concept for this idea, we envision a robotic cognitive system and a select function that we assign a neural cost for its operation. To be concrete, we use a small humanoid robot platform (Darwin-OP) and implement a neural network (Hopfield Network) that allows the robot to recall learned patterns that it sees through its camera. As a model of neural computational energy consumption, we postulate that a change in the state of a neural unit of the network consumes one unit of (neural) energy. therefore, the total computational energy consumed is determined by the incoming stimuli. the robot is programmed to avoid high energy consumption by showing aversive behavior when the energy consumption is high. Otherwise, the robot demonstrates engaging behavior. For an external observer these responses may be perceived as robot's having certain emotional (affectional) preference for input stimuli. In this article in addition to robot experiments, we also emphasize the biological support for our proposal and provide detailed exposition of biological background and its relevance for the hypothesis that (certain) emotions may emerge through computational mechanisms.

this article addresses the problem of fixed-time tracking control for uncertain nonlinear systems with full-state constraints and unknown disturbances. To approximate the unknown terms in the systems, fuzzy logic systems (FLS) are used. the issue caused by the nonstrict-feedback property is resolved by reducing the inequality of Gaussian functions. A new fixed-time controller is then devised using the barrier Lyapunov function technique and the command filter method in backstepping. Additionally, a novel dynamic switched-threshold event-triggered mechanism (DSEM) is created to conserve communication resources while avoiding excess measurement errors. the proposed approach ensures that the tracking error is confined to a small compact set, and all system states are maintained under asymmetric constraints at all times. Finally, the proposed method is validated through experimentation. © 2023 ieee.

Influenced by the biochemical reactions and sensor characteristics, the wastewater treatment process (WWTP) has been regarded as a multirate sampling system. To deal with the asynchronous control problem caused by multirate sampling, a multimodel predictive control (MMPC) scheme is proposed to improve the operation performance of WWTPs. First, a multimodel predictive control structure is constructed such that the controlled variables with multirate sampling intervals of WWTPs are able to be tracked synchronously at each sampling instant. Second, the fuzzy neural networks (FNNs) are adopted as the carrier for multimodel to compute the synchronous prediction outputs of all controlled variables at each sampling instant. Moreover, an adaptive cost function is excogitated to obtain the optimal control action in which the adaptive parameter is to minimize the impact of forecast errors on the tracking effect. Ultimately, the experiment results on the benchmark simulation model 1 (BSM1) have verified the efficiency of the proposed MMPC. © 2023 ieee.
