In recent years, wireless power transfer (WPT) using magnetic resonant coupling has attracted much attention due to its high convenience. Many methods have been proposed to control WPT systems, such as DC-DC converters, inverters, and the positional relationship between transmitting and receiving coils. However, previous research has assumed that the mutual inductance, which cannot be measured during power transmission, is known. therefore, this study proposes a control system that considers the variation of mutual inductance during power transmission by estimating the mutual inductance. First, the WPT system is modeled. Next, the mutual inductance estimation is explained and the control system is designed. Finally, the effectiveness of the control is demonstrated through simulations in MATLAB. © 2023 ieee.

Electromechanical oscillation affects power system stability and hinders the improvement of the generating capacity of the electrical power grid system. this is because if electromechanical oscillation is not controlled, it leads to the loss of synchronism in generators and total power disruption in the power grid system. To solve this problem, this study introduces Power system Stabilizer (PSS) damping controllers in the ieee standard power test systems of Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB), Western system Coordinating Council (WSCC), and the New England Power Test systems for electromechanical oscillation damping and control. the African Vultures Optimization Algorithm (AVOA) was used to obtain the PSS damping controller parameters to ensure optimal performance. Results showed that the introduced PSS damping controllers can dampen and control electromechanical oscillation. © 2023 ieee.

the Internet of things (IoT) has brought significant changes in the way we interact with technology in our homes. Smart homes equipped with IoT devices offer a comfortable and convenient lifestyle. However, managing these devices and their operations can be challenging, especially for individuals with limited technical expertise. the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in IoT-based smart homes can potentially overcome these challenges by automating device management and enabling proactive responses to users' needs. this paper investigates the potential of AI-based automation for IoT-enabled smart homes. We review the literature on AI-based automation and IoT-based smart homes, highlighting their benefits, challenges, and existing solutions. the research methodology used in this study is through deep learning approach. the results indicates that AI-based automation can improve user experience and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IoT-based smart homes. However, some technical and ethical challenges, such as privacy and security concerns, need to be addressed. © 2023 ieee.

Although the usage of roundabouts has been widely implemented as an alternative to signalised intersections as a version of traffic control, it is still reported that major traffic congestions commonly occur at roundabouts in urban areas. However, studies show that one of the most promising methods to overcome this issue is through the implementation of an evolutionary algorithm as a method to control the phase timings of the traffic light system at roundabouts. As such, this project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing particle swarm optimisation (PSO) as the traffic light control for a signalised roundabout. Hence the performance of the PSO-controlled signalised roundabout is compared with that of a fixed-time signalised roundabout and also the unsignalised roundabout under different traffic conditions. this project presents a case study inspired by a real-world roundabout, namely the Persiaran Anggerik Mokara Roundabout in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, Malaysia. From the study, we can conclude that the usage of a Particle Swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm is suitable in finding more effective green traffic light phase timings compared to fixed-time traffic lights for all test cases. However, the implementation of the PSO-controlled signalised roundabout is less effective compared to unsignalised roundabouts due the minimal delay incurred from an unsignalised round design. As such, it was concluded that when designing a roundabout system that is of similar characteristics as the modelled roundabout for this project, an unsignalised approach to the roundabout system greatly outperforms any traffic light system that only has traffic signals at the entrances of the roundabout. © 2023 ieee.

At present, in high-voltage DC transmission systems, when the AC system on the inverter side malfunctions, if the DC control system responds improperly, it will lead to inverter commutation failure. Studying from the principle of extinguishing angle control, the advantages and disadvantages of measurement based and calculation based extinguishing angle control methods were compared. A composite control strategy in DC transmission engineering is proposed, and a corresponding control protection model is established in PSCAD/EMTDC, and the feasibility of the optimization strategy is verified. this strategy can effectively avoid the continuous commutation failure of the converter station caused by ground faults in the system, and improve the stable operation efficiency of the DC system. © 2023 ieee.

the recognition of faces in videos has recently gained considerable attention, but the recognition process executed on a single camera has limitations, especially when dealing with uncooperative subjects, changes in body posture, or self-occlusion. these challenges are particularly relevant in the context of studying facial analysis in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). therefore, the use of multiple cameras in a face recognition system is proposed to overcome these limitations. Facial image realignment was employed in the automatic face recognition process. To achieve this, the Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) algorithm was used to track facial features, and the RANSAC algorithm was utilized to estimate the homography transformation for realigning the multi-view input images. To assess and compare the similarity of the fused image, the normalized cross-correlation (NCC) was employed. the resulting fused image was obtained based on the extracted pose of the face. the results demonstrate the efficacy of the method, achieving an accuracy of 94.5% for typically developed children and 87.3% for ASD children.

Motivating undergraduate engineering students for the area of control engineering can be a challenging task. Posicast control can be used as a simple technique to introduce both open-loop and closed-loop control systems. this paper addresses several approaches to teach Posicast control involving simulation and practical implementations. A demonstration experiment using the robotic arm (UR5) is reported here as an alternative practical system which can be used to demonstrate Posicast control. Results obtained from student's perceptions of the reported experiment are presented.

We focus on the model-based control (MBC) for a set of switched discrete-time systems with partial unstabilizable subsystems in a network communication environment with periodic sampling mechanism. A hybrid control strategy combining dwell time (DT) and average dwell time (ADT) is used and the reasonable allocation of dwell time of stabilizable and unstabilizable subsystems is arranged to guarantee stability of the model-based switched discrete-time system. A sufficient condition of stability for the closed-loop switched system is derived and presented in linear matrix inequality form, under which control gains can be designed. Finally, the effectiveness of our proposed method is verified through a numerical simulation example. © 2023 ieee.

controllers of security-critical cyber-physical systems, like the power grid, are a very important class of computer systems. Attacks against the control code of a power-grid system, especially zero-day attacks, can be catastrophic. Earlier detection of the anomalies can prevent further damage. However, detecting zero-day attacks is extremely challenging because they have no known code and have unknown behavior. Furthermore, if data collected from the controller is transferred to a server through networks for analysis and detection of anomalous behavior, this creates a very large attack surface and also delays detection. In order to address this problem, we propose Reconstruction Error Distribution (RED) of Hardware Performance Counters (HPCs), and a data-driven defense system based on it. Specifically, we first train a temporal deep learning model, using only normal HPC readings from legitimate processes that run daily in these power-grid systems, to model the normal behavior of the power-grid controller. then, we run this model using real-time data from commonly available HPCs. We use the proposed RED to enhance the temporal deep learning detection of anomalous behavior, by estimating distribution deviations from the normal behavior with an effective statistical test. Experimental results on a real power-grid controller show that we can detect anomalous behavior with high accuracy (>99.9%), nearly zero false positives and short (<360ms) latency.

Photovoltaic power generation system is susceptible to temperature and light conditions, and its P-V curve shows multiple peaks, which reduces the effectiveness of the traditional maximum power point tracking method. Aiming at this problem, the eagle perching optimization algorithm (EPO) is introduced into maximum power-point-tracking (MPPT) control, and its scaling factor and incremental formula are improved, which effectively improves the convergence speed and reduces the number and amplitude of shocks. In Matlab/Simulink simulation, three test environments are set up: no shadow condition, static shadow condition and abrupt shadow condition. It is verified that the improved eagle perching optimization algorithm can track the maximum output power point of photovoltaic array quickly and stably, and improve the working efficiency of photovoltaic power generation system. © 2023 ieee.
