this paper extends U-Link scheduling to increase the average execution efficiency of the system. We first define the execution efficiency. then we propose a new algorithm that establishes the co-scheduled sets where the execution efficiency can be increased. Also we present the static estimation of the execution time and provide the schedulability analysis for the extended U-Link scheduling. In the experiments, we evaluate the advancement of the extended U-Link scheduling from the viewpoint of the execution efficiency and real-time processing

Efficient scheduling mechanisms are essential for implementing real-time operating systems on embedded microprocessors. Reactive processors provide mechanisms and an instruction set architecture more suitable for dealing with external signals than it is the case with traditional interrupts. By extending the reactive framework further we demonstrate simple and efficient hardware-implemented scheduling of tasks with static priorities. the scheduler support unit is added to the reactive microprocessor core. the real-time scheduler shows substantial improvement of performance over the conventional approach of using prioritized interrupts

this article introduces the concept of monotonic transactions. A monotonic transaction is a particular case of transactions for which the load arrival pattern is (or can be by rotation) localized at the beginning of the transaction. In the general context of tasks with offsets (general transactions) only exponential methods are known to calculate the worst-case response time. the pseudo-polynomial methods known give an upper bound of the worst-case response time. the method of analysis suggested in this article gives the real worst-case response time: moreover; this method has a complexity lower than that of the existing methods of approximation. there are two main steps in the application of this method: grouping the tasks of the transaction in a normal form and seeking a monotonic pattern

In this paper we argue for UML-based metamodeling and pattern-based graph transformation techniques in computer-based systems development through an illustrative example from the domain of embedded systems. We present a tool that uses advanced graph-rewriting techniques to generate a schedule that satisfies hard real-time constraints for multi-modal systems. the input is a time-triggered system specification (using the Giotto language); the output is an instruction sequence for the E-machine: a virtual machine for hard real-time embedded systems. the resulting model may be refined into a) system implementations (E-code programs) through a trivial synthesis process and b) development-time analysis models expressing the properties of the system implemented over different execution platforms. Furthermore, we identify the next steps to be taken towards generating analysis models using explicit platform models

the real-time implementation of a controller typically introduces artefacts like delay and jitters that have not been considered at the design stage. As a consequence, the system behaves in a non-periodic manner, and the real performance is degraded with respect to the expected response. this paper proposes a hybrid task model to reduce the impact of the scheduling on the control performance. For a large batch of typical plants, we analyze how sensitive the control system is to jitter when the sampling rate is slow or fast compared to the bandwidth of the system

this paper presents a performance study on various broadcast algorithms in a real-time information dispatch system. the objective of the study is to design an efficient broadcast algorithm for providing data in a timely manner for real-time transaction processing applications in broadcast environments. We construct and conduct a series of simulation experiments to look at the performance of our proposed algorithm. Simulation results show that our proposed broadcast algorithm can further reduce the probability of mobile read only transactions missing deadlines in broadcast environments

the Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) are widely used navigation systems in a several applications. the main reason for their using is their dimensions and weight and relatively simple implementation in navigation system. the main objective of the INS/GPS integration is to merge information from INS and GPS sensors and to provide estimates of the vehicle states with greater accuracy than information from the individual sensors. For data fusion of these sensors one of the Kalman filter based estimators (EKF, LKF, etc.) is usually used. the paper describes integration of INS and GPS navigation systems using new approach for navigation information processing with efficient particle filtering. Numerical methods known as Monte Carlo methods can be described as statistical simulation methods, where statistical simulation is defined as a method that utilizes sequences of random numbers to perform the simulation. Despite the fact that Monte Carlo methods are known for such a long time only the nowadays progress in technique allows to apply those methods on complex applications. Particle filters (Sequential Monte Carlo Methods) are simulation-based filtering methods where product of the filtering is an empirical approximation of the joint posterior distribution created on the base of samples of the state vector. the aim of particle filtering is to track a variable of interest as it evolves over time, typically with a non-Gaussian probability density function. Although, the Sequential Monte Carlo Methods require huge amount of computing, those methods are more efficient than Kalman Filtering if the system is nonlinear or if probability density function of the errors are non-Gaussian. Integrated systems have been created in simulation environment. We present a garbage collector scheduling algorithm for dynamic multiprocessor real-time systems called GCMUA. the algorithm considers mutator activities that are subject to time/utility function time constraints, stochastic execution-time and memory demands, and overloads. We prove that GCMUA probabilistically lower bounds each mutator's accrued utility, lower bounds the total accrued utility, and upper bounds the assurances' sensitivity to variations in execution-time and memory demand estimates. Our simulation results confirm our analytical results

real-time embedded systems are increasingly being networked. In distributed real-time embedded applications, e.g., electric grid management and command and control applications, it is required to not only meet real-time constraints but also support the data confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity. Unfortunately, in general, cryptographic functions are computationally expensive, possibly causing deadline misses in real-time embedded systems with limited resources. As a basis for cost-effective security support in real-time embedded systems, we define a quantitative notion of strength of defense (SoD). Based on the SoD concept, we propose a novel adaptive security policy in which the SoD can be degraded by decreasing the cryptographic key length for certain tasks, if necessary, to improve the success ratio under overload conditions. Our approach is lightweight. the time complexity of our approach is linear and its amortized version has the constant overhead per SoD adaptation period. Moreover, our approach supports desirable security features requiring an attacker to do extra work to find the cryptographic key. In the performance evaluation, we show that our approach can considerably improve the success ratio due to controlled SoD degradation under overload

Hierarchical scheduling frameworks have lately received a lot of attention for component-based design of complex real-time systems. the specification of the resource reservation policy play a dominant role in such frameworks. In this context, the notion of real-time virtual resources results a very flexible representation of resource reservation schemes. We intend to combine the advantages offered by virtual resource scheduling with very general event models specified using real-time calculus. Our proposed framework permits resource partitioning to be extended to multiple levels and handles a wider range of scheduling algorithms and task models. In addition, it allows the handling of data dependencies between tasks from different task groups in the hierarchy
