A reference library can be described as a corpus of an individual composition of documents containing related work of research, documents of favorite authors, or proceedings of a conference. the documents in the corpus may change over time; new documents extend the corpus while other documents are sorted out. A subset of documents may contain meaningful annotations describing their content while other documents contain only weakly annotations. Enriching documents with meaningful annotations is beneficial for the performance of applications like semantic search, content aggregation, automated relationship discovery, query answering and information retrieval. However, enriching and maintaining a document with meaningful annotations is non-trivial. Available (semi-) automatic annotation tools ignore the individual composition of documents in corpora by annotating documents with generic named-entity related data. In this paper, we present techniques for enriching and maintaining annotations for document-specific databases considering changes in the composition of documents.

Since a long ago, most of the Augmented reality (AR) applications are built using some general purpose devices such as computers and handhelds. In such general purpose devices, tasks are being processed using different softwares that make it difficult to obtain the real time results with high resolution and frame rate. there is a need to maintain a good performance but it invariably results into high cost of the overall project due to the requirement of higher clock frequency and high power. Mobility and processing power are the two basic requirements of an augmented reality application to provide an efficient immersion to the end user. An embedded architecture developed on Field Programmable Gate Array Logic (FPGA) can supply both mobility and processing power to the AR applications. FPGA is a tiny chip that has the efficiency of hardware level executions. this paper gives a detailed account of FPGAs in AR applications in the field of computer vision & image processing, multimedia & computer graphics, communication and wearable computing.

We consider uniprocessor platforms, the scheduling of synchronous implicit deadline periodic task sets and the dual priority scheme where each task is assigned two fixed priorities. that is, at run time each task starts executing using its primary priority and is promoted if not completed at an intermediate deadline. We present counter-intuitive examples illustrating how difficult this scheduling problem is. We propose a preprocessing approach to remove from the scheduling problem lowest priority viable tasks as defined by Audsley's procedure. We revisit one solution called RM + RM conjectured optimal. We propose a procedure to compute promotion deadlines based on multiple simulations over an hyperperiod called FDMS. that solution has an exponential time complexity but an experimental success ratio of 100%. then we propose a new sub-optimal solution to assign priorities called 1/RM + RM along with a very simple promotion deadline assignment scheme called RML for which no simulation are required, the procedure is simple and the success ratio is close to 99.99%. We show that the method is fast and scalable to very large task sets which makes it ideal for practical applications.

In developing state of the art applications for Internet of things (IoT) and Cyber Physical systems (CPS), most applications software and associated hardware are always developed from ground up. However, this approach always involves huge capital outlay, extend time-to-market for products, and contribute to integration delay, especially in the case of Industrial IoT (IIoT). In this paper, it is shown that already existing, widely-available, and low-cost hardware can participate successfully in collaborative computing for new analytics applications, at edges of IIoT and CPS networks. A well-known, low-cost, embedded digital signal processor (DSP) that is fully integrated in many industries is selected and used as a case study. the selected DSP is made more scalable by applying it to new, novel uses at the edge of an IIoT network. the new application includes using it to design useful waveforms needed for collaborative computing at IIoT network edges. embedded-C, a programming language that is suitable for programming resource-constrained network edge devices is used to successfully design needed waveforms for the selected DSP. Collaborative computing is achieved by sending the designed waveforms from the network edge, across diverse communication channels, to the fog layer, and then, use it at the fog layer to remove noise in selected IIoT data. Correlation coefficient is positive and high between output of noise removal achieved by waveforms from the low-cost DSP when compared to noise removal achieved by waveforms from systems with more computing resources at the fog layer. this signifies a successful collaborative computing using such legacy, low-cost DSP. For low-cost hardware to participate successfully in distributed, real-time collaborative network edge-computing, impact of communication network disturbances must be examined. In this paper we present a system that is suitable for real time camera pose estimation over a video stream, Our approach proves to be computationally efficient for real time applications to calculate the new extrinsic parameters for a moving camera. the system depends only on the camera without the aid of any external sensors or fixed points. Our analysis for the problem shows that the most computationally intensive task is in the feature detectors/descriptors used, for that we will be comparing between 2 feature detectors/descriptors;AKAZE and ORB, that are well known for their good performance in terms of computational cost. Although AKAZE has managed to achieve better results, it comes with higher computational cost yet with substantial gain in terms of quality, this will provide more robust results for our system if compared to ORB. On the other hand, ORB still manages to give enough quality to satisfy our needs and with real-time performance. © 2018 ieee.

Autonomous driving techniques frequently need the clustering and the classification of data coming from several input sensors, like cameras, radar and lidars. these sub-tasks need to be implemented in real-time in embedded on-board computing units. the trend for data classification and clustering in the signal processing community is moving towards machine learning (ML) algorithms. One of them, which plays a central role, is the k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) algorithm. To meet stringent requirements in terms of real-time computing capability and circuit/memory complexity, ML accelerators are needed. Innovation is required in terms of computing arithmetic since classic integer numbers lead to low classification accuracy with respect to the needs of safety critical applications like autonomous driving. Instead, floating numbers require too much circuit and memory. To overcome these issues the paper shows that the use of a new format, called Posit, implemented in a new cppPosit software library, can lead to a k-NN implementation having the same accuracy of floats, but with halved bit-size. this means that a Posit Processing Unit (PPU) reduces by a factor higher than 2 the data transfer and storage complexity of ML accelerators. We also prove that a LUT-based complete tabulated implementation of a PPU for a 8-bit requires just 64 kB storage size, compliant with memory-constrained devices.

Periodic monitoring of physiological data of inward patients' is a way to keep their health conditions under control. For this purpose, the medical staff record patients' vital signs periodically. Such an approach is exhaustive and may not be safe for patients because in some cases, a slight negligence from health care staff may lead to serious consequences for the patients. this paper suggests a MPI cluster based distributed computing framework in which newly surfaced low cost single board computers called Raspberry Pi is used for continuous monitoring of in-ward patients' vital sign data and sending them to the hospital server for doctors' observation and data logging. Alert signals may be triggered in case of any vital sign data exceeding some predefined dangerous limits. Furthermore, the hospital server can be accessed through Internet for remote monitoring of real time physiological data.

Nowadays, real-time embedded systems (RTES) and particularly adaptive ones are gaining more use in several domains. they must be always consistent and available to preserve their usefulness and feasibility, as a response to environmental conditions, resources limitations and user requirements. For this reason, they are subject to anticipated and unanticipated runtime reconfigurations. the design of such systems requires an abstract representation of the execution context independently from low-level details, with lower complexity. In this context, designers adopt runtime models which need to be checked and validated at early stages of development. Besides, these models must be updated according to unpredictable execution changes. In the present paper, we propose an MDE-based approach that allows managing runtime adaptive RTES. Our proposal starts by specifying the behavior and structure of runtime adaptive systems. then Model-to-Text (M2T) transformations allows us to generate configuration files to simulate adaptive systems behavior and evaluate their real-time constraints. An additional feature offered by our approach consists to monitor the execution context and update runtime models according to unanticipated reconfigurations.

this paper presents a system architecture for mapping and real-time monitoring of a relatively large industrial robotic environment of size 10m x 15m x 5 m. Six sensor nodes with embedded computing power and local processing of the 3D point clouds are placed close to the ceiling. the system architecture and data processing is based on the Robot Operating System (ROS) and the Point Cloud Library (PCL). the 3D sensors used are the Microsoft Kinect for Xbox One and point cloud data is collected at 20 Hz. A new manual calibration procedure is developed using reflective planes. the specified range of the used sensor is 0.8m to 4.2 m, while depth data up to 9m is used in this paper. Despite the fact that only six sensors are used and that the Kinect sensors are operated beyond the specified range, a benchmark of the accuracy compared with a Leica laser distance meter demonstrates an accuracy of 10mm or better in the final 3D point cloud.

real-time object recognition on low-power embedded devices is a widely requested task, needed in manifold applications. However, it is still a demanding challenge to achieve desired performance goals. For example, for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) or autonomously driven cars, object recognition and lane detection are indispensable tasks. Another field of application is the continuous retrieval of the construction progress on-site for validation of the construction site status, by detecting installed components using a given CAD model. this paper presents a framework for highly customizable object detection systems implemented on a single heterogeneous computing chip leveraging FPGA logic and standard processors. the FPGA logic is used to implement a custom variation of the Hough Transform and further image processing tasks efficiently. the dedicated logic is supplemented with a software stack, which consists of a Linux operating system, including hardware access drivers, as well as high-level libraries like OpenCV and Robot Operating System (ROS) - all running on the same device. the capabilities of the system are demonstrated for three application scenarios, namely race track recognition, lane recognition and object detection tasks performed within a construction assistance system.
