In this paper we present the design considerations of lightweight encryption algorithm. Our aim is to demonstrate how to achieve lightweight block ciphers efficient software performance for low-resource embedded devices. Several lightweight block ciphers are proposed; we selected the most recent and suitable for low-resource embedded systems such as RFID tags. In this work, we analyzed the software implementation of lightweight block ciphers using FELICS (Fair Evaluation of Lightweight Cryptographic systems) a benchmarking framework which computes execution time, RAM consumption and ROM occupation on two largely used devices: 8-bit AVR microcontroller and 16-bit MSP microcontroller. Using the same evaluation conditions, we selected the most suitable ciphers for low-resource devices.

the main objective of this research is design and realization of real-time monitoring and alarming system for patient health, especially for patients suffering from diseases during their normal life. the proposed system has an embedded microcontroller connected to a set of medical sensors (related to the patient case) and a wireless communication module (Bluetooth). Each patient is considered as a node in a wireless sensor network and connected to a central node installed at the medical center through an internet connection. the embedded microcontroller checks if the patient health status is going well or not by analyzing the scanned medical signals. If the analysis results are abnormal, the embedded unit uses the patient's phone to transmit these signals directly to the medical center. In this case, the doctor will send medical advice to the patient to save his/her life. the implemented prototype has been tested and calibrated with standard devices. the experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed system that is accurate in scanning, clear in monitoring, intelligent in decision making, reliable in communication, and cheap (about 100 US$).

the development of multimedia embedded applications continues to increase. As an example, image recognition applications are not only developed for the PCs but also for the embedded systems such as the face recognition, the texture detection and the edge detection. In this paper, we will present a hardware architecture based on an adaptation approach. To validate this architecture, an edge detection approach is chosen. To illustrate the proposed approach, vehicle registration plate recognition is proposed. the latter application was tested in a first time by a software implementation. n a second time, we use the co design technique based on a mixed Hardware Software architecture. the used platform for the implementation is the Xilinx ML 507 FPGA platform.

All real-time services provided by the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) require QoS mechanisms to avoid traffic congestion. Recently, the Software Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm has emerged to enable dynamic network resources, and then a way to perform QoS management. the paper presents an approach to integrate the IMS with the SDN paradigm. the work is motivated by the lack of QoS management of real-time flows in the IMS transport layer, which can be performed through implementation over an SDN controller. the architecture proposed implements new modules in the SDN controller in order to enhance QoS management in the IMS transport layer. the feasibility and the performance of the approach proposed are assessed by experiments.

Spot Instance Market is the most recent advancement in cloud computing business models. It is introduced by Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) in order to utilize its idle resources more efficiently. the main characteristic of spot instance is its dynamic pricing. the hourly price for a spot instance fluctuates depending on the supply and demand for cloud resources. Users across the globe can bid for a spot instance using an online auction platform. the auction platform determines the current market price, a.k.a. “Spot price” and the users whose bids are above the spot price obtain the instance. Amazon publicizes current spot price but does not disclose how it is determined. the major challenge for the users in this new business model is to predict the spot price before bidding. In this paper, we propose a new spot price forecasting model based on chaos theory. the proposed method makes use of chaos time series analysis to verify the chaotic feature of Amazon spot price and to perform a prediction using Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). We perform extensive simulation experiments using real spot price traces and show that the proposed method can be a bright merit to predict Amazon spot price.

this paper deals with an advanced approach for the verification of ADAS algorithms in complex automotive sensor networks. We introduce a real-time modular framework that can benchmark the performance of the ADAS algorithms at the electronic system level using a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) co-simulation. the presented research provides a generic architecture of ADAS sensor error injection for robustness testing of the System under Test (SuT). Effects of sensor failures can be added in a continuous manner to achieve increased degrees of realism. For efficient verification, an astute selection of relevant test scenarios is conducted using model-based testing to avoid repetitive test scenarios. the industry-proven framework facilitates a systematic testing of ADAS algorithms precisely and more efficiently on the target electronic control unit (ECU) in the laboratory.

In this paper we evaluate the promise held by low-power embedded architectures to implement SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) algorithms. We map and implement 4 SLAM algorithms, that find utility in very different robot applications and autonomous navigation, on an embedded architecture. Our results show that low-power embedded architectures are indeed, sometimes, attractive alternative for some SLAM algorithms. At the same time, efficient software optimizations are mandatory to allow a real-time execution.

the increasing need for computing power today justifies the continuous search for techniques that decrease the time to answer usual computational problems. To take advantage of new hybrid parallel architectures composed by multithreading and multiprocessor hardware, our current efforts involve the design and validation of highly parallel algorithms that efficiently explore the characteristics of such architectures. In this paper, we propose an automatic tuning methodology to easily exploit multicore, multi-GPU and coprocessor systems. We present an optimization of an algorithm for solving triangular systems (TRSM), based on block decomposition and asynchronous task assignment, and discuss some results.

In this paper, we present a fast approach for matching stereo images acquired by a stereo sensor embedded in a moving vehicle. the proposed approach exploits the disparity map already computed at the preceding frame to improve the matching results at the current one. An edge association method is used to track the edge curves over time. Local disparity constraints are computed for all the edge points that belong to the tracked edge curves. For the rest of edge points, we use a global disparity constraint, which is computed for each image line based on the preceding v-disparity. We integrate these constraints in the dynamic programming algorithm, which increases the matching results and speeds up the matching process.
